Apocalypto

Nice set Lymond, I'll look at the save later.

thanks fella. I think we may be in good position, although the AIs having fission is a little concerning.

not really... bought Mass Effect 3 now ;-)

I'l be getting it eventually, but probably not until later in the year. I do enjoy the series. I did pick up Deus Ex for cheap the other day from Gamersate. Looks very cool so far and I"m not an FPS type.

won't lie the ME 3 doesn't somehow feel right...played only 6.5 hours and I jsut don't like the fps style anymore (and the galaxy map is maybe even worse then before lol and that's a lot to say)...

the story is there still though, so I guess I will play it out, but only on casual diff.

seems to me like BW lost the ability to produce "must buys", I bought DA:O, ME 2, DA 2, SW:TOR and now ME 3 and it's downward spiral of hell...
They lost me somewhere and any new thing coming out will be very suspicous for me.

But one has to buy ME 3...otherwise it would be like reading Harry Potter 6 and not buying 7 ;-), maybe just wait few months for sales though...the "must have origin account" is another piss off customer thing to add insult to injury.

Yeah, I've heard some reservations on ME3. DA2 was crap even though I finished it. I loved KOTOR, but the whole MMO thing with TOR pisses me off. Yep, I will get ME3 regardless just for the story. Most developers now have just sold out.

Anyway, getting marginally more 'on topic' ... ;)

Thanks for the turn set lymond. 'Yes' - a few new cities to complement our awesome empire! :)

I'm concerned that Isabella not only has Plastics, but is capable of researching Computers. This tech' (in my experience) is one of those weird ones that a lot of AIs just won't touch while a few will seemingly bee-line it. Hopefully we can still nab The Internet.

Plastics also raises the question of The Three Gorges Dam. Having gone through a pretty lengthy discussion on the cost-benefit of this WoW with vranasm, woopdeedoo, and FiveRings in our Moonraker game, I fear I'm about to prompt the same. Worth it, or do we go for Coal Plants and the occasional Hospital?

I am going to be out of action early next week, which is about when my turn is likely to fall, so I can swap with nocho (Cam > Sengir > nocho) or bump nocho back in the order (Sengir > Cam > nocho). Sengir - preference?

I dare say Cam > nocho > Sengir is a proposition too. :)

I think on paper 3GD is a great wonder. However, it's just very expensive. If we pop a GE though, I'd be fine using that to help it along. Otherwise, we may be better served by putting those hammers into gold and beakers.

muhahaha :-)

from my experience sticking with factory, coal plant, grocer, supermarket and quick genetics should be more helpful then trying to find hammers for 3GD ;-), hospitals are kind of meh (I think they are more expensive then supermarkets and bring only +3H, where supermarket should bring +4).

I don't think I ever saw being built this wonder (3GD) in space ship games where finish date was the target (for example from iggy). And you are in a race with AI's on other continent.

Alrighty then. Cam > nocho > Sengir it is. :)

So the basic plan is to build Wealth until we're making a decent surplus at 100%:science:, which will include finishing off Factories and Coal Plants. Chronic unhealthy cities to consider Hospitals if warranted. New cities to complete Granaries > Forges.

We're approaching the happy cap in quite a few cities, so I'll watch for that.

I'm not sure to what extent we need to be wary of invasion and make preparations for that. For instance even though he's weak, Joao could quite easily DoW us and drop a mid-sized stack of Artillery and Marines in some inconvenient spot. I'd be inclined to largely ignore this prospect until someone goes WHEOOHRN, but nonetheless I think Hurrian should be spitting out units, and it could benefit from a Drydock. Corihuayrachina will need some infrastructure that will allow specialist slots to be filled. We'll wait to see what pops out of Lakama to determine if it also needs some buildings to open specific specialist slots.

Workers to railroad mines and quarries as a priority, and complete a north-south continuous rail line.

Tech'-wise, the plan's to push ahead toward Computers. If The Internet goes before we get it, then Rocketry via Flight could be one pathway, or moving on to Superconductors could be another.

International relations are still a bit touchy. I'm inclined to turn down every demand, but now that Medicine's no longer a monopoly tech', I'm uncertain whether I'd turn Joao away if he demanded it.

Your thoughts on any of this would be great. Thanks.

I think I've got most mines and quarries covered except in the NW and SW. Transcontinental rails would be good indeed.

Regardless of what V says, and he's not wrong, I think 3GD pays off when you own pretty much a whole continent and pop a GE to finish over half of it. Otherwise, no GE...no 3GD.

Too bad we didn't settle the GG to get 5xp ships out to park in the ocean. Still might want to put some ships out to sea. We had absolutely no ships when I started the TS and I'm not sure what happened to them. There's a galleon near Calakmul.

I thinking Iz might gradually ease up on diplo, but Joao is perplexingly messed up. Our power may deter him. He only attacked when we were at war with about everyone.

We have some Plants in big hammer cities. Might want to hold off on more to see if we pop a GE. I'm totally for 3GD if we do.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I can live with the Great Engineer > Three Gorges Dam policy. I'm still a massive fan of this Wonder, and at the same-ish cost as a dozen Coal Plants, I think there's a pretty compelling case for it when you've got 32 cities on the one continent. Anyway - I'll try not to go on and on about it.

Oh, yeah, our old boats ... errr ... :(

I lost all the boats on my turnset if I recall. Joao's destroyers were too fast for me to outrun them back to port.

I'm with Cam_H on 3GD. But then again I'm probably a buildaholic.

A pretty uneventful turn set, with no major crisis other than some of the former Native American cities suffered / are suffering from 'Motherland' unhappiness (Cahokia +5:mad: but a Ball Court is still buildable here, Poverty Point +6:mad:):

We self-researched; Industrialism, Plastics, and Radio, and now on the way to Computers. Isabella has not acquired Computers, so we still have a chance of building The Internet.

The Three Gorges Dam has not been built either, and 'yep' - in 1745AD we popped a Great Engineer (George Washington Goethals - chief engineer of the Panama Canal).

I've begun a 'natural build' of The Three Gorges Dam in Machu Picchu, and we have seven more turns before we then apply the rushed Great Engineer to complete it, assuming it's still unbuilt elsewhere.

We have in excess of 50% of the global population.

I gifted Sitting Bull both Physics and Electricity, and have him working on Fission for us.

Three sources of Aluminum in the empire (one found under Uxmal, giving us a 4:hammers: city centre tile).

End of turn set screen shots:

Spoiler :

Hopefully nothing too unconventional or :smoke: in the builds. I've opted for an Intelligence Agency in Lakama in case we choose to run more Spies at some point for a late-game Golden Age. Corihuayrachina got The National Park done, and the Factory will allow for a couple of Engineers and a faster build on whatever's to follow. Slightly unfortunate timing on Calakmul in that we should have Computers for a few turns before Ironworks is done ... maybe we can cash rush the end of Ironworks? Poverty Point's Mandir is a pretty costly approach to getting +1:), and I admit that I very nearly ignored it. As noted above, Cahokia still has a Ball Court to build. One idea that I couldn't pursue to improve the :) in a few cities was getting out a few Jewish Missionaries - we never built a Jewish Monastery! ...

Finally, there's a pretty unappealing resource trade that I'd by-pass, but nonetheless;

Looks good, Cam. Got it.

We're heading to space, right? Then after computers I'd go rocketry through artillery asap, regardless of the internet which would come 10 turns later, so we can start Apollo asap too. After that space techs obviously.

Will finish 3GD and would probably try the internet in Xukpi, which can get a few hpt more than currently. Otherwise follow in the same vein, keep on researching at 100%, keep Hurrian on military.

I think we can acquire hitsingles by renegotiating all the deals we have with Iz.

Sounds good, nocho....good job, Cam

I would turn those 2 non-irrigated farms south of Tlatelolco (NW of Machu Pichu) into workshops or cottages

Also, I would set Laka back to working its tiles, grow into more specialists. Build a ball court there and other happiness. Not sure what an Intelligence Agency is doing for us.

Xukpi could get another workshop

All sounds good.

I wasn't too sure if it was better to run a turn at 100%:gold: as we approached getting Ironworks complete so we could rush-buy the last of it in preparation for for The Internet, or whether Xukpi starting it earlier, was the better option.

I haven't got the game with me now, so can't comment on lymond's/your micro suggestions, but I'm sure they're good. We need that north eastern Aluminium tile to be mined, but otherwise I just had Workers focus on rail lines. Lakama's working on the Intelligence Agency for two Spy slots should we need them for a Golden Age down the track. I think this city from memory was at its caps (??) and would need more infrastructure to support more citizens - Ball Court seems sensible too.

Looks good (both the set and nocho's plan).

Played the set, not much picture-worthy so I'll keep it short.

Good or regular news:
- Internet built in Machu Pichu, it got us Fascism, Mass Media, Fission, Flight, Advanced Flight and Satellites.
- Self-teched Computers, Artillery, Rocketry, Superconductors, Genetics (for now the +3 :health: is nice), Ecology.
- Apollo is ready next turn.
- Mainly built wealth/research, some spare infra and battleships in Hurrian and some tanks.

Bad news:
- Before the GE was ready to rush 3GD it got BIDL, gave us 600 cash or thereabouts.
- Chaco Canyon just suffered a Native American revolt.

Entertainment news:
- In a strange turn of events the Dutch unvassaled from Isa, only to submit to Joao. :crazyeye:
- Isa got red-fisted some turns ago. It might be us, or maybe she's pissed at her own continent which wouldn't surprise me either. SB is her worst enemy though, so I just got him in FR in order to get the religion demerit out of the way. Anyway, some action might be preferrable to just moving workers around building needless railroads. ;)[party]
