Appreciation Thread

I just really like the community hear. I've been to other forums and there seems to be some pretty nice people there but most of the people treat others opinions like dirt. they always flame and such because of such controversial topics and always believe they are right without regard for others opinions. With CIV the most controversial topic is probably SE vs. CE. so it really goes to the game for creating such a strong community.

I was a warlord player before I came here.

I was a noble player before I came hear 3 months ago. now I'm a successful culture whore on Immortal:cool:.

How do you see who has the most posts? I didn't realize there was a tracker on number of posts.

Sometimes I wonder why I only have 800 or so - seems like I post a lot more, but must be a lot of lurking too, I guess.

guy called perfection (hangs around off-topic, forum games) has 30,000+ posts

If we were to build a real cottage, a quarter of the forumites would turn up with wrecking balls instead of construction tools :)

Jeez, you guys make me feel sad. I have been reading the forums and playing the game for a long time and still suck at CIV, occasionally winning at Noble. Unfortunately, I am quite old by CIV standards (50+) and just do not have that inate feel for the strategies that you folks pick up on so quickly. And I don't play a bunch anymore as RL gets in the way.

But I do very much appreciate you guys who help the lesser players with tips and tricks, and also take the time to entertain us all with your tales of conquest and your victories at insane levels.

There are some good players who are even older AFAIK.

The thing about civ (and some other games) is that getting really good at it requires a focused effort at improvement. For some people, that's part of the fun of games. If it isn't, they probably won't get as good at anything game-wise, but that doesn't have to kill the enjoyment.

lol @ cabert. :D

These boards are easely one of the best on the web because here questions are always takes seriously and the people are polite and helpful. That alone is a rarety. Also the people in here seem to have at least a decent grasp of language, so that answers to questionas actually make sense.

Come to think of it, it saddens me that these are not standard everywhere, but at least it is a big compliment to this community that it is at least standard in here.

I would also like to thank civ for having a tech named "Aesthetics" which means "an appreciation for what is beautufil and artistic." It appeared on my SATs. :)

Just hope you didn't spell beautiful that way though. ;)

Almost to 40,000! :smug:

How could you possibly learn anything from someone who only has 10,800 posts??

:)
That's actually the right amount of posts to trust. Anything more and you've got a forum junkie not a civ Junkie. I personally haven't played a game of Civ in over two years. And if we go to the others in top five we find:
2. CivGeneral - not much of a civ junky (or if he is he doesn't discuss it much), more into valve stuff.
3. MobBoss - into WoW, christianity, and being the coolest stereotypical religious right member on the forums, civ not so much it appears
4. The Last Conformist - as far as I know he actually does play civ.
5. CurtSibling - he definitely was huge into Civ2, not sure what he's been doing much these days (sadly he isn't around as much anymore).

Suprisingly little civ action comes from our mega posters.

On a similar note I would like to thank Civ for teaching me the word "mercantilism" - as a hard-core free-marketeer I have found this addition to my vocabulary very useful in both thought and dialog.
