In comparison here is a screenshot of the city screen in Civ 3 (mod CCM3).

City screen Civ 3.jpg

Please note the shown CCM 3 map terrain in the city screen, that is much inferior to the ARA map terrain, but in my eyes is much superior to the "cold" terrain shown by ARA in the city screen - and at least in the last videos the game seems to be played with a very heavy focus in that "not overwhelming" sight.

I added a screenshot of a Civ 3 city screen to my last post for reasons of comparison and that it is possible to show here the original terrain and its resources. CivLuvah, you were too fast for me with your reply. :)

Oops, I didn't notice that, sorry!

Yeah, the ARA screen does look a bit too dark and cold. Hopefully they could fix that in the patch soon.

No reason for being sorry. I added the second screenshot after your post. As posted, you were too fast for me. :)

:yup: Yes this would be great - nevertheless ARA for me is a very interesting game.

So there is one other feature that also causes some headache to me: The flood of "myriads" of amenities seen in the videos. Isn´t this an overkill in micromanagement? I am very curious about the upcoming reports when playing this game.

I thought game had launched, but it doesn't DL. Anyone else have the same xp?
I'm on Steam.

VPN --> Switched to UK (I'm in Norway). Started DL at once ^^

I had the game preloaded, but had to restart Steam to activate it. :)

I haven't time to play though, had to take my son to his martial arts class. After that it's my class. I wonder if getting kicked in the head repeatedly will impact my ability to strategize...

I tried restarting first, but may have been too impatient :D

I haven't played ara yet, but the way anno and similar city builders handle it is that you set up the production chain once and then the micromanagement is only needed on higher economic difficulties. Just need to watch your resources stockpile and if you have too much deactivate some buildings to safe building upkeep.

I took some time off work today to play for an hour or so, and it seems okay but also the pace is slower than I expected. I know they were trying to get away from it feeling like a board game, but the simultaneous turns aspect actually makes it feel more like a board game. There's no animation of your characters moving, they just zoom to the end of the region, and then you don't see them move again. It's less immersive than the way CIv handles their turns.

My first reaction is that it may be fun to pass the time until Civ VII, but it's not a real threat to Civ.

this how the city screen in ara looks for me.

I might reduce the details though, my GPU doesn't like it. It is maximum zoon in city but I only have 2 regions.

Yeah, they seem to be tackling some performance issues, apparently the MSAA being 2X instead of 4X makes a bigger difference than expected so I wonder if there's something there. Hoping for the best! I am having a lot of fun but I'd love for it to perform better!

I made a triumph as a hail mary play to get myself out of dead last on normal difficulty and it worked.... terrifying... oh, and the goods icon in the top right is a super helpful overview on how much you're producing or consuming of something!

My ROG strix gaming laptop did really well. Even my fan was silent and it definitely is not with Civ VI. 🙃

Ye, me too, works rly well so far, but I'm only at the end of the first era 🤞

With regards to the city screen, you can zoom and scroll normally inside the city area. In the screenshot @Civinator posted, it is zoomed out, there is some kind of overlay active, a sub-menu is open, as well as a large tooltip. It doesn't usually look like this.

With regards to performance, my 3080 handles it all right, but there is some issue with MSAA that is making the GPU work harder than it probably should. Turning it down, or even off, should help. I believe it is being looked into.

EDIT: Also, closing my browser with 100+ tabs open seemed to help a bit too.

Honestly yeah I don't really have any complaints, it's actually very snappy in terms of responsiveness. I'm just spoiled and enjoy extra frames lol but it runs great! I love the feeling of clicking around and, like, having a turn-based grand strategy sort of game like this is so good, I can take my time and smell the roses (and watch people wandering around)

The game loads up shockingly fast, I'm used to something like Stellaris taking a few minutes and this is like, seconds. It makes it a little too easy to pop it open to check something or get a little bit done on my turn... I have a vacation up in Canada immediately after release but I wish I could play a ton more!! It keeps calling to me...

I'm really happy with it so far, I hope that people will give it a chance and give it some nice reviews. There are things to improve but it's fun and quite playable as-is (global crafting management will be so nice though) Still wanna play with the modding tools eventually!

The civ killer stuff people say is unfortunate since that gives weird expectations and sets it up as immediate pass or fail (kind of like 'pokemon killer') and I mostly just want them both to do well
