Arioch's Analyst Thread

BTW, I was browsing the handicap xml file Wednesday morning. Has anyone mentioned yet that your base happiness level bottoms out at PRINCE level, not Deity?

What do you mean?

In settler, you get extra happiness before you have to worry about unhappiness. This is true with all difficulties up to prince (although that extra amount decreases). Once you get to prince, any higher difficulty level has the same unhappiness number as Prince.

Alright. Uhm, this good or bad?

It's neither, but good to know that your happiness concerns in Prince are the same as in Diety.

Rebase range is actually twice its combat mission range. :)

Or is combat mission RADIUS the actual correct term, since the pedia states that "The air unit moves to a new base within its range" when you search for 'rebase'?

I thought fighters would only rebase to 8, but once I got a fighter and TRIED it, I found otherwise. Cost me about 1k gold rush-building a carrier to get my fighter overseas before I tried fooling around with it.
But that's what 1st games are FOR (and why I spend so much time on my games).

The Indian war elephant is a lot better than it looks on paper. For whatever reason (probably because it'll upgrade to a mounted melee unit later) you get the melee promotions with it. This means that once you unlock shock1-3 or drill1-3, you can get blitz (rather easy with military tradition). This nets you three attacks per turn, and a ton of experience, since you don't need to spend time to heal like a melee unit. With mobility, you get four attacks per turn, which turns the elephant into a truly fearsome war machine.

I have never tried, but I assume the Egyptian war chariot does the same, as does the camel archer. 5-6 attacks per turn from the war chariot will make a dent, even if you only do 2-3 damage per attack.

Leader titles w/ policy unlocks.

Tradition - Lord...
Liberty - Consul...
Honor - ...the Great
Piety - ...the Pious
Patronage - ...the Enlightened
Commerce - Doge...
Rationalism - the Wise
Freedom - President...
Order - Chairman...
Autocracy - ...the Terrible

Hi Arioch,

I'd just like to say thank you for the effort you put into the analyst site in the months running up to civ 5's release, i was pretty excited about the game and your site (along with civfanatics of course) fanned the flames of most of that excitement, checking out the new units and Civilizations on a daily basis was a blast.

Thanks again mate :)

Signed :)

I still sometimes pop in to your site if I want to quickly check something, like a name of the tech/social policy or sth.
Good job, thank you for your hard work :goodjob:

Seconded. Why would I open up the pdf manual when 1) I'm already in Firefox and 2) the site that documented what the community could figure based on a few hands-on reports is generally much more accurate? :mischief:

Hehe, I had a few predictions on this thread that turned out to be more correct than I really wanted them to be.
