Arioch's Analyst Thread

Based on the manual, shouldn't mountains and coast be move from terrain features to base terrain?

As they aren't in the manual, maybe Mt. Everest and Lake Titicaca are specific for one of the regional map scenarios (ie. Asia or The Americas).

Arioch - While there are likely still a few mistakes in the PDF manual, you should be able to plug any holes you have this weekend so you can dedicate next week to some pretty pics. :)

A few??
Seems more like there's a truckload of mistakes, inconsistencies and poorly chosen images in the manual. :(

*shrug*

I've put some errata into the thread for that. Some of the mistakes are clearly from them tweaking the game. I expect they'll put out a patched manual fairly quickly.

By releasing it early, they enticed a whole bunch of people to proof it and point out errors as they couldn't play the game at the same time. ;)

Hills and mountains and forest are a little weird in the sense that they're not really base terrain -- the hills are on grassland or plains or desert, etc. -- but they completely change the base production of the tile. So whether you choose to categorize them as base terrain or terrain features is really a philosophical argument.

I'd say, especially the promotions page, half of the naval promotions are listed as ranged.

Since the Naval units are all Ranged units this may be forgiven.

Many thanks, Arioch, for your insanity putting your site together. It's been great to have a well-organized, detailed summary of what we learned as information and pictures trickled out. :goodjob:

Indeed, thanks - it's been a great resource while waiting.

The brady guide is full of mistakes, old data, etc, but they had to print it ages ag.

If the PDF manual is the release version of the manual, they should be ashamed. There's no excuse for a digitally based manual to be that out-of-date and full of errors and stuff, especially when they are NOT going to print. That thing should be much more up-to-date and accurate.

This picture contains the Chinese Chu-Ko-Nu in the field (being bombarded, but at least they're there).

This picture contains two airplanes (I'm not sure which type) on a mission. I found it pecular they'd fly side-by-side.

Ugh, looks like the Fighters are Me-109's. Ugliest fighter ever. :(

Hey! They could have been P-40 Warhawks (which are NOT prettier than Me-109 Messerschmitts).

Messys are a bit utilitarian in design & artwork, though I must admit I would like a change from 5 years of everyone having Spits.

As an aside to Ainwood's thread on directx 11, he's posted various new elements:

Porceilain tower, Sistine chapel, Industrial Great Scientist and some square amphitheatre type place.

Anyone have screenshots of the Bowman and/or Walls of Babylon?

What's with the road spamming?

Probably didn't look at his F2 (city AND financial advisor) to check his Improvement Maintenance, or hovered over gold number at top. I don't recall if it varies with difficulty level (I'm paying only 11 gold for 14 roads (12 in plus 2 outside my borders) for my 5 continental cities).

I'm happy that of most of the Fkeys I commonly used, only F3 (military) & F5 (socialPs) were switched.
