Arioch's Analyst Thread

You can see that the AT gun has the Accuracy 1 promotion, but no ranged attack (which would normally be listed in the third slot below Strength). There is a Tank unit in the same video with all 3 Accuracy promotions, but also no ranged attack.

There are a few explanations for this that I can think of. First is that the screen which shows the promotions seems pretty wonky; there are graphics that appear to be placeholders in some shots, and in others there are obvious bugs and garbled text. So it's possible that what we're seeing doesn't reflect what a "real" game would look like. We could be seeing the wrong promotions, or it may be that units have abilities that are being wrongly displayed or not displayed at all.

It's also possible that promotions may have different effects on different unit types. The description tooltip for Accuracy I above comes from a Trebuchet.

Neither of these are very satisfactory answers.

What about ranged attacks vs. a certain unit type? AT Guns only being able to attack tanks from a range?

I calculated the ratio between strength and cost of the military units were available and it varies from 6.5 to 8.5 .
Melee units are closer to 6.5 while ranged units are on the higher half. Musketman is right in the middle with a ratio of 7.5 .

The AT Gun is not a ranged unit. If it were it would have a ranged attack, logic demands this.

Have we seen any special abilities or boni yet? So far we don't know what makes the AT gun different from any normal infantry unit. Or did I miss something?

AFAIK there was not even a mentioning of a bonus vs. armored. It could be that such boni are not shown on the main interface, but in a tooltip.

Repost of my stuff from the new ign trailer:
Legions are str 13 (along with road/fort building)
Incense is back, as is silver
Barbarians have a unique name for the warrior- Brute
Ballistas are str 4, ranged attack 18. No idea about the regular catapult though
New diplomatic options: "pact of cooperation", "pact of secrecy"
This is definitely a new build: new and better icons in the social policy screen
Honor's other bonus is revealed: Notification whenever camps spawn in revealed territory
Tradition gives +1 food now
City state mission: Vienna tells you to kill barbs: +influence for each dead barb.
Largest map size is 12 civs and 24 city states
Makes mention of 'Giant Death Robots' in the tech tree: Mechs probably a regular unit
New social policy confirmed: Republic, +1 hammer in each city. (The one under collective rule)
Robotics is back as a tech.
The 'chariot' unit is actually a chariot archer.

The AT gun does show a +100% bonus vs. Armored units when it is attacked by the tank.

It will take me a little while to process the IGN video, but there's a ton of new stuff in there. I also have some scans of the GameStar article, and there's quite a few new things in there as well (including Artillery, and pics of naval-embarked modern units).

Another city state name: Almaty (At 2:11, Vienna asks you to 'take out' Almaty).

Most units, well melee and archery anyway, seem to get a -33% terrain modifier while on the flat.
Chariot Archer unit (seen in a damage report at the top of the screen almost at the end, no further info).
Roman Legion had a promotion that gave +20% to attacking in Rough terrain.
Units gain XP for being damaged while defending against a ranged attack as well as for normal attacking and defending and for doing a ranged attack themselves. Great Generals still seem to pop up after a certain amount of XP has been collected.
Cost of Golden Ages seems to increase with each additional one. It was 335 early on and 670 later.
The price to purchase hexes goes up by 5 gold for each hex you have purchased earlier. Base cost of a tile seems to be solely determined by the movement cost (30 base for flat, 60 base for forest/hill/crossing river)

The cost also seems to increase significantly when you go to the third ring: this is probably also true of culture.
