Arioch's Analyst Thread

Sweet, I had missed that new video.

At :34 you can see there's Incense. Terrain: desert, Output: 2 Gold

Edit: And you see silver at 1:30.

Approximative costs of some technologies :

Philosophy circa 90
Sailing circa 100
Metal Casting circa 225
Engineering circa 225
Animal Husbandry circa 32
Masonry circa 48
Optics circa 72
Mining circa 32

I'm not sure sailing is that expensive. The only datapoint there is for that is when there is one turn left and 14:science: are being produced, but a lot of them might be going to overflow. I think it's probably the same as Masonry, 48ish, as it seem that all techs in the same column in the tech tree have the same cost.

It seems that the palace/capital gives a bonus of 3:science: and 3:gold: (possibly dependent on difficulty level), and after that it is 1:science: per population point.

And at 2:20 you see chariot archers. I don't know if chariots and chariot archers are 2 different things of if what we've been calling chariots are really chariot archers.

Considering that there's only one possible spot for a chariot on the unit tree, it's definitely the only 'chariot' unit type. It'll be interesting to see its stats as a ranged cavalry type unit though.

I have a preliminary set of updates up. Lots of views of the Legion and Ballista. The Legion can indeed build roads and forts; you can see it in the Build Actions menu.

The unit with the eagle head icon appears to be the Scout.

Here are some new items unrelated to the video:

Panzer

The new version of the Cuirassier (the mounted unit under Metallurgy) is the "Lancer."

Good job as always.

Small tidbit: basic lake production is 2:food: 1:gold:, it shows in the IGN video in the bid where Cumea buys a hex.

The IGN video is played at what corresponds to Civ 4 'Quick' speed.

We can deduce that he plays:
50 turns of 60 years
30 turns of 40 years
20 turns of 30 years
12 turns of 20 years

This is exactly the 'Quick' speed of Civ 4.

Arioch two things you may be interested in:
Firstly: 3rd page, top post, of IGN preview video thread from 2K Greg:

"5 social policies is correct. It was 6 at one point, but it was changed.

As for the map size, there are larger sizes than what IGN mentioned, don't worry! I previously confirmed to you guys that it was possible to play against 22 opponents in a single game, and while that number could conceivably change, the final number will be much closer to that than 12
."

Sorry don't know how to link a quote from another page but I'll try: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=9448692&postcount=41
If anyone could PM me a how-to would be appreciated!

Secondly in the IGN text, page 2 about halfway down: http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/111/1110263p2.html

"There are 10 categories in the game, all of which contain policies that can adopted by your society that provide bonuses to everything from food production to happiness in your capital to the movement capabilities of your navy <snip> Within the Liberty line Collective Rule can be adopted, which gives an upfront food bonus, and linked to that is Republic, which gives a +1 bonus to production in every city"

Did anyone notice that both Bismarck and Mr. Unpronounceable of Siam are "Consul" while Askia is just Askia the Great of Songhai. I wonder if this "consul" title is written in stone so to speak or if it changes based on your social policies or something (I doubt it though).

Also I noticed that those leaders (the ones who's animations were removed from the official site civilization section) really look good now. They really did fix them as I remember those leader's animations were awful and clumsy when they first appeared on the site before removal.

Yeah, I saw that. I changed it in all the places I could think of, but I probably missed one or two.

I have the feeling that this is something that we're going to hear wildly different numbers about right up to release day, so I'm not really worried about tracking it.

Thanks. I suspect the ship movement bonus would probably be in the Commerce tree.

There's a lot that looks much better in this build. It's not a suprise, but it's still really nice to see the rough edges being polished off.

That's as good a candidate as any, but did you see something specific that leads you to this conclusion?
