You can turn off city states before starting a game.
Theres more info but i think its all already covered.

Oh and City states can gift great people. Not sure if that is worth a seperate mention from 'gold and units' as it says on your site.

That's already been confirmed, look, the scroll bar for city states on this screen of the game set up.
The fact you can choose 0 city states is obvious. I think the full range is 0 to 22 (but obviously 22 is on the maximum size map, a small map for example may not allow a full 22 city states just as it won't allow 23 civ's either)

I also like how easy it will be too add in extra civs to play against with the "add another civ" button as opposed to having to click on many drop down bars.

Awesome cool. When I saw it myself it looked just like that ... the top and bottom were visible and there was a ring of clouds around the middle.

Also, it's interesting to see when you select a Civ, it shows both the leader and the Civ's icon. Speculating here, but perhaps that keeps the door cracked open for an expansion to add additional leaders to existing civs?

There are 28 different city-states currently, so it probably can't get higher than that.

I could see them going down the road of additional leaders with different civ-powers, kind of like how traits were in Civ3 and Civ4.

It was disguising itself as IraqFrance.

In current my game.. I played again with American. And I allied with Oslo (city states). helped them in the war (Oslo - Chinese). I attacked Chinese and Oslo like me. Give me bonus +2 Gold and resources Ivory. After some time.. Oslo help me in the fight against Greeks.
