Art of the Possible

OOC: Sorry for the doublepost, but don't want anyone to miss this.

IC: The Shung Dynasty shall terminate the treaty of Yunfu in 18 months. The treaty will be active those 18 months due to the clause of the treaty and we assume that Japan, Britain and France shall understand this.

In light of the recent escalation in Siam, the administration of Fujian has determined the Treaty of Quanzhou to be a liability to Chinese security and commercial interests, and manifests its intention to terminate it. As per the final clause of the Treaty of Quanzhou, it shall remain in effect for the next 18 months, but not a day longer.

The Shung Dynasty shall terminate the treaty of Yunfu in 18 months. The treaty will be active those 18 months due to the clause of the treaty and we assume that Japan, Britain and France shall understand this.

Brazil has to condemn this extremely bizarre war. Not only is the war a violation of common decency, it is a violation of sense and reason.

Re: The situation in Siam

Prussia joins the various nations of the world in condemning France and Britain for their aggression against the nation of Siam. We hope a peaceful solution can be found for the issue.

Declaration of the Fort Lauderdale Conference

The French and British crowns have committed themselves to war in Siam despite the pleas of the world’s nations. Their war with Siam is reprehensible, insensible, and condemned by men across the globe.

Despite this, the pleas of the world fall on deaf ears.

Therefore, it is not without significant trepidation that we, the crown of Austria-Hungary and our allies globally, impose complete economic sanctions against the United Kingdom and France until such time as they withdraw their declarations of war, fully acknowledge the sovereignty and independence of Siam, and publicly renounce any attempt to dictate with whom Siam may trade or do business.

And so, here is the last desperate attempt to resolve this crisis without violence. If the United Kingdom and France will not listen to pleas, reason, sensibility, or human decency, perhaps they will listen to the cries of their people and businesses.

We call upon the world community to join us in sanctioning United Kingdom and French goods until such time as they meet our reasonable requests for peace.

All those who hold true to the Idea of a world where states and nations may rule themselves without fear of foreign interests imposing themselves to the detriment of their people are invited to Fort Lauderdale Conference of 1902, hosted by the Confederate States of America. There, diplomats and world leaders will discuss the issues plaguing today’s world and attempt to resolve those questions that are keeping world leaders awake at night.

The Confederate States of America will of course be attending, and will be joining the world in imposing sanctions, should they become necessary.

The United States of America echoes the sentiments and commitment of the Austrian crown.

We hereby commit to sanctioning the goods of the United Kingdom and France until such time as these nations withdraw their declarations of war against Siam and recognize its sovereignty and right to trade and do business as it sees fit.

The United States of America will attend the Lauderdale Conference and thanks the Confederate States of America for hosting this important meeting.

The Ottomam Empire will attend, and is committed to the sanctions.

Persia will send delgates to Florida, as well as stand in solidarity in imposing sanctions on France and Britain.

Prussia is attending the conference and is committed to the sanctions that have been proposed.

The Confederate States are happy to see that the Empire of Japan is attending, despite past... diplomatic incidents.

The Empire of Japan received a speedy education in the value of diplomacy over the past year.

From the United States President Theodore Roosevelt,
To the People of the United States and the World,

The United States of America secretaries of Commerce and Industry George Bruce Cortelyou, and of State, John Hay, are dedicated to the economic prosperity and well-being of United States people and its businesses. They realize that sanctions against the two biggest industrial nations in the world will have wide-ranging and extensive effects upon the world economy, including our own.

To alleviate these potential hardships, to both our own people and to the brave nations of the world who had the courage to stand up for Siam’s sovereignty, the United States government is dedicated to facilitating trade between nations who would otherwise suffer from sanctioning the empires of France and the United Kingdom.

To that end, we will be dramatically reducing our import and export trade tariffs with all nations who have united in defense of Siam’s sovereignty. We hope other nations leveling sanctions in defense of Siam’s sovereignty will join us in reducing tariffs as part of a multilateral trade agreement.

From the United States Government,
To the Confederate States of America Government,

Despite the dark history between the Confederate States of American and ourselves, the courage and valor shown by the Confederate States of America, as well as their dedication to reason and decency has shown that despite our differences, our core values and ideals are not so different.

For this reason we will be dropping the long-lasting punitive import tariffs upon Confederate cotton, tobacco and other goods effective immediately.

Henceforth the CSA is free to trade in the US market on equal footing with the other nations of the world.

We are both nations born of a struggle for freedom, and we bear common roots. Though we may not agree on all things, we are family, brothers.

We invite American corporations to trade on the Richmond Exchange, and we hope that the long estrangement of our people is coming to an end.

OOC: You guys are so cute.

Bemusing, to say the least. France remembers fondly how the Austrians forwent the use of force to bring the Serbians into line. Or how Turkey left the Arabs to their own devices. France of course would love to establish peaceful relations with the Sioux, had the United States not gotten there first of course. And what better place to host an international conference on the rights of nations than the Confederate States of America? To be fair to the state of Florida, France does note that in most hotels, you don't even need to tip the valet. Or can't! Because apparently, they're chattel still!

-----

France announces it will impose counter sanctions against all who impose sanctions on French and British goods. We call upon our allies to do the same.

In addition, we revoke our treaties with the Confederate States, traitors that they are. May they burn in Dante's hell.

----

We still wish for peace. Siam: Surrender and accept the Treaty of Bangkok. None of this talk changes the fact that you initiated this crisis. We will end it.

We are deeply chagrined by France's Attitude. We remember when France stood for the independence of oppressed states, when France valiantly stood besides those in need. Now, France appears to be ruled by cruel Oligarchs, no better than the Bourbon kings overthrown years ago. We hope that we are mistaken, that France realizes the fateful and cruel road it is traveling and turns back towards reason and freedom.

We once were proud to count France as a friend, and we hope that we can do so again.

On a seperate note, in light of the growing economic unfeasilibity of slavery, the Confederate States has begun a study of the Brazilian Emancipation program to see whether it is a success and whether it can be adapted to work in the Confederate States.

The Empire of France would like to announce that, in light of the blockade imposed upon it by Austria-Hungary, Prussia, Persia, the United States of America, the Confederate States of America, and the Ottoman Empire, we have declared to be in a full military alliance with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

This crisis is solely the fault of the United States of America. Their aggressive gunboat diplomacy in the annexation of the Dominican Republic, their insistence in meddling in both the spheres of interest in the United Kingdom and France, and their provocations in China have all lead to this impasse. They are clearly using this crisis to disrupt the world order for their own profit.

We have appealed for reason, for peace, and for order, but there is none in this world. France calls upon its allies, its true allies, to stand with it in these dark and troubled times. We hope to continue to maintain France's role as a guarantor of peace in this world. We will, with heavy hearts, invade Siam, but we will withdraw when our mission has been accomplished, and peace is restored to the region.

We call upon the nations to end their blockade, this horrid and hostile act. France of course will reciprocate, and you will find that without access to either French or British markets, your merchants will cry out in pain. We will be happy to reinstate normal trading relations at a future date, should you decide to withdraw from the blockade.

We will not back down though. We will not be bullied. We will stand by our allies to ensure that order is upheld and restored.

May God have mercy on our enemies, for France will show none.
