Chuang Lieh Ti. I think he was the last Ming Emperor of Mongolian descent. Then Nurhachi (who was Manchurian) delcared himself emperor in 1618.

There're no Ming emperors of Mongolian descent; the Ming dynasty is a pure Chinese dynasty. ;)

Nope.

was it Lingdan Khutaghtu Khan?

As a side note, I think there was a great Khan that ruled from 1911 - 1924. His name was Boghda Khan.

EDIT: I'm not sure if this is far, I was looking at some more history books about the Mongolian Empire and the answer came up.

I mean as in a really effective great independent nomadic ruler, rather than as the last official 'great khan'. ;)

Nope, not what I had in mind. Think Dzungars here.

I give up, I have no idea. Hope someone gives the answer soon or XIII reveals it because I really want to know!

think dzungers? was dayan (sp) a dzunger who haraassed the qin in the 18th cent. in and around tibet or his sucessor tsewang robdan

I'm thinking more of Galdan, the last khan of the steppes who offered a real threat to the Chinese hinterland. He was trying to reunite all the Mongol tribes, and at one time or other, was even allied with the Russians who were advancing fr the west and north IIRC.

However, Galdan was eventually broken when the Kangxi emperor sent in his forces into Xinjiang and the Dzungarian Basin. Note that the Qing forces incl Mongol bannermen, fr what are Inner and Outer Mongolia today.

Someone asks a question.

I remembered vaguely there're eight countries.

Imperial Japan, Imperial Russia, France, Great Britain, Germany, Austro-Hungary (?), Belgium (?), America (?).

BTW, can you give a number, please

Sorry, my mistake. Just a typo on my part. I meant to say "1900's". XIII you are correct and you named all of the countries involved so it's your turn!

D'oh! My last few guesses are correct!

Which European power once held Formosa (Taiwan), until they were driven off by Chinese forces?
