If you have any questions ragarding homeschooling in America I can probably answer them. I'm 16, and have been homeschooled my entire life. So I probably know the answer;)

I'm sure there are other homeschoolers on this forum as well who should feel free to contribute as well...:)

Ask away...

Spoiler :
Yes I got moderator permission for this;)

How many real life friends do you have?

What is the daily schedule for a homeschooler?
Well, it really varies... I usually sleep in till about 8-9AM then get up, and do schoolwork till sometime in the afternoon. At which point I may do a variety of things. So I really have no set schedule:crazyeye:

Are you dumber than if you went to a "proper" school?
Maybe, I don't believe so I got an 87th percentile on my PSAT so I believe I'm doing okay... If I went to a public school it might have been higher or lower, but overall I don't believe either is innately better.

How many real life friends do you have?
Good friends or just normal friends? I probably have about 6+ good friends, and maybe 20-30 decent friends. I don't really feel like counting them all right now. Most are fellow homeschoolers, I know some people who go to public schools as well.

What do you feel are the benefits of homeschooling? I can't think of any meself.
I don't really know, it wasn't my decision as I said I've been homeschooled my entire life so I don't really no anything else. I guess the biggest thing is that I can tailor my education to suit myself rather than a 'one size fits all' system that schools employ. For example I have a friend who while not stupid isn't extremely bright either. If he were in school he would IMHO be very nhappy becausew he would have to do higher math etc. and probably get poor grades. Being homeschooled however he learns mostly 'trade skills' which he is good at, and will be able to use to support himself. (He doesn't plan on attending cllege)

TWENTY TO THIRTY??!?!???

Umm, wow.

Why would someone homeschool their children? Do your parents teach you or do you read the books yourself atleast now that you are older? But when you were younger your parents taught you, right? Isn't that very time consuming for your parents? Did your parents have to take courses in how to teach you objectively and efficiently?

How do you manage in social situations? Are you socially inept because you were homeschooled? (no offense, just asking because most homeschoolers I know are a bit you know...socially ********)

Oh, ok. I always thought that homeschooled people didn't really have that much social interaction. Thanks for clearing up that misconception. :)
When I was younger I had very little interaction, mostly because I lived in a very rural area but now I have many friends who I see usually at least once a week. This includes people from the two homeschool groups I do stuff with, as well as from the one where I used to live in VA.

My parents have done some teaching, right now I recieve most of my 'schooling' through online courses. In which my parents don't really have to do anything. When I was younger though, they did.

Well, my Dad works, but my Mother doesn't so she is always at home with us to teach us etc. No classes were necessary, the law (at least in VA) was that if you had a Bachelors degree or higher then you could legally take over your childrens education. Both my parents have college degrees so that really isn't a problem.

As for the why... I'm not totaly sure, I believe most of it was because my older brother had a very bad experiance with highschool, and ended up leaving home permanently when he was 16. My Mom now generally hates public schools. Many people are also homeschooled for religous reasons, all though that's not the case for me.

What? That's about how many I have, probably a few more.

Wow, i only have 5 friends. I am just very shy around other people.:hide:

I have not been sick for months. I don't have to put up with germbags of all ages. Oh, and I sometimes sleep in.
How many real life friends do you have?

I have no one I could call a friend.
What is the daily schedule for a homeschooler?

Basically the same as if I went to school.

Well, I won't claim to be a playa' or anything. But I anage okay, could be better, but I'm certainly not horrible at it either. I can talk to girls/random people etc. just fine. I used to be very shy, but not anymore... That being said I'm not great at it either so I'de say I'm basicaly normal.

I think it depends on what you consider as a friend.
Well, by friend I mean people I know by first-name, and see/talk to on fairly regular basis. As well as know at least something about.

Thanks for the answers. Sorry to hear about brother though  I wanted to know about the requirements for homeschooling exactly because of some crazy people. Sounds a bit frightening that some fundie nutjobs can teach their children in their own home without people monitoring the standard of teaching.

This actually brings up more questions. I don't know much about the American schools systems, but do you participate in some exams for the state or something with which they can monitor what you have learned so that the university/college you might apply for in the future knows what kind of a person are you? Of course you do, right?

I'd call that an acquintance

Well, unfortunatly in America you can get a religous exemption. At which point there's basicaly no rules at all. Otherwise it varies by state in VA I had to take standerdised tests every year, and get 24th percentile or better. In GA all we have to do is say we spent 4 hours/day doing schoolwork, and they won't verify it or anything... Personally I think it should have more regulation, but it is regulated some.

Yeah, we can order standerdised tests, and in fact have to in some states. I also have trancripts from the online courses I take, and have taken the PSAT, and will take the SAT when I'm older.

Would it be possible for you to take an AP class on-line and take the test somewhere?

(I'm assuming your teacher/parents are unqualified to teach an AP class at home, please correct me if I'm wrong)

Yeah, I just took the AP American government, and politics one this spring. Also, I don't think I actually need to take a class to take the exam (Which I would do at a local high-school) so I'm sure my parents could teach it if they wanted to.

How do you manage to motivate yourself to do work without procrastinating? I would procrastinate massively if I was in your situation and never get any work done.
