Atheism as a religion

Atheism should be added as a religion, or at least, you cannot spread atheism, but you can set it as the state religion. In countries like soviet union, or China, I bet their state religion is atheism.

Atheism isn't a religion. Atheism is a consequence of the raise of individualism. Instead of adding atheism as a religion, we should add individualism as a game concept. The more a society is individualist, the less religion will be influent in the society.

About communist states. It's not atheism which should be a state religion, it's all religions which should be banned. Furthermore, if there's something which has a religious aspect, it would be communism in itself, not atheism.

Some atheists however are so fanatic that they sound fundamentalistic.
Anyway, it might be a good idea for a modification. It should be possible to make an atheism spreading unit (looking like a professor or something) and to have the Darwin's Evolution Theory wonder as a religious capital.

I agreee with the first point

BUT...
Theroy of Evolution wouldnt be good for atheism because it promotes evolution which is belived by more then just athiest a more fitting thing would be just to have it double your odds of getting a scientific great leader.

It was the first, and most self-evident (read : stereotypical) example I could find.

this is one of thoes questions like is being bald a hair style. Is not beliving in religion a religion it self? I think if your atheist your country should be open to all religons as it does not firmly belive in any god/s.

By the look of the first two definitions, it seems as if atheism qualifies as a religion, at least as much as confucianism. The only thing that might be considered as not a religion would be considered might be agnosticism, which is absolute uncertainty of anything. Remember, aetheism is a disbelief, which is in fact a belief in itself.

Paganism means believing in crap. Every people believing in a religion have considered people believing in other religions as crap. It has nothing to do with not believing in God... it's about not believing in the same God as "we" do (and of course "our" God is the real one).

Atheism should definitly not be considered as a religion. Considering it is a religion is simply a distortion made by people believing in God in order to disqualify it.

This would all be much simpler if we defined "atheist" and "religion". Than we could easily deduce whether it fell into that category. Let's consider dictionary.com's definition of religion

If we consider definition 1., confucianism would not qualify. Therefor we are forced to go with definition 3, in which atheism or belief in lack of deities, would qualify as a religion. But the dictionary is often not the most efficacious tool for discussion on a message board, so perhaps you could give me your definitions.

Question: I am a big fan of all of your games. I have been playing Civilization since the first one was released and I can not wait for Civilization IV. I do have a question about Civilization IV as it relates to religion. Can your government have no state religion? If so can they influence border nations with their secular beliefs?
Sid Hello Orie! Yes, the default is Paganism, which means there is no organized religion. At the other end of the spectrum is Free Religion and that offers tolerance of all religions. It's not possible to spread no religion where there is already religion. It's a play mechanic, but I am pretty sure it holds up that way in history as well.
