Hello everyone,

I bought the game today thinking all the bugs I read about would be fixed by now .... updated to 1.61 and got the Rerender error. I read everything on here, tried 3 or 4 different drivers - new ones, old ones, (i'm currently running an Omega from 2006) and I still get the same rerender error when I try and start the game. Did anyone find a good fix for an ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 8500DV card?

my computer is slightly above min requirements.

thanks

also in DXDIAG under notes is this:

"Hardware accelerated Direct3D 9+ is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
To test Direct3D functionality, click the "Test Direct3D" button above."

do i need a driver that will support Direct3D 9+? if so has anybody found one that will work with ATI 8500?

yes, i have. there are no drivers on the ATI page that support the 8500 video card. i tried to install the latest one anyway and it gives me an error - "INF error. video driver not found" - won't install. so I tried using some other drivers I found in links on this site and I get the same rerender error at startup.

Crunch, I did, yes. I think the 1.61 patch fixes that because that art file was already gone when i tried to move it. There were 4 or 5 other files in it's place with different names. Didn't mess with them.

"renderer" - thanks, i spent so much time trying to get this working I'm seeing things backwards ...

How are you removing the drivers?

If you are basically installing another version of an ATI driver over the one running on your system, you wont get the results as desired and most likely no game will function right on your machine (or hardly any) if it needs 3D capabilities.

Also the Catalyst 6.5 drivers do support 8500DV (http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=22264)

Follow these instructions to remove the ATI driver:

If none of this works, it might be time to replace that AIW card. You do have to understand that you have a 4 year old video card and since then the industry has released 6-8 new chips (usual release cycle is 6-8 months). Here is a last generation (x800) ati card AIW card:

thanks for the reponse. I'm removing the drivers through the ATI remove all utility. I bought a new graphics card (9600), went through the steps you linked to. it said i should find 3 or 4 ati files in windows. I found over 800. think that's a problem? I deleted anything in the windows/sub folders. left the rest. some i could not delete. got a "cannot read disk" error. thought that was strange. anyway, installed the new card and I get the same renderer error. i'm running out of ideas over here.

the nice brits at the help desk are stumped as well.
