Audio Quotes

Many of the Pedia entries in that file were miss formatted but I could not find any Sid's Tips. How are they defined? What is the tag?

I belive its ...

TXT_KEY_TECH_LANGUAGE_STRATEGY

Where you can replace the tech name language in bold with other tech names. So basiclly any tech text with _STRATEGY at the end.

Note that any text with _PEDIA at the end is fine to have long text. However they really should not have the weird formatted text and avoid stuff like [1] or unusual characters.

No that is not Sid's Tips that is STRATEGY I am sure () they are different.

But yes many strategy texts are way too long and they aren't strategy either but pedia entries.

Is it _HELP then?

At any rate when I do buildings its like this ...

Name
Driftwood Gatherer

_STRATEGY
Build a Driftwood Gatherer to increase your cities production.

_PEDIA
Driftwood is wood that has been washed onto a shore or beach of a sea, lake, or river by the action of winds, tides, waves, or man. It is a form of marine debris or tidewrack.

As you can see they are short and to the point. None of this copying the entire wikipedia text from online. The same should be done for techs or any other type of civpedia info.

Talking about strategy text... What's the point of having the Driftwood Gatherer Strategy at "Build one to increase your production."? This is such a no-brainer. And most buildings use this kind of "strategy" as well. Science builings have: "Build it to increase your cities science." ... Well... Is this even "strategy" at all? Couldn't we just as well skip it for most of the buildings?

No it is not _HELP either. I have seen all three at once.

All lighting buildings should have the same _STRATEGY imo "Reduce crime and increase production with better lighting.":D

I have been switching _PEDIA and _STRATEGY where the latter is longer than the former. However once I have done the rough formatting fix someone will need to go through and finish polishing it. I am just over half way now.

Strategy text is often just a summary of the stats of whatever. However it should be a simple guild. It should highlight stuff like the new concepts eg properties

Do you know which thread?

Because if we have quotes that have no audio yet people like tegual could be assigned quotes to read.

Note I stress that the quotes should have to do with the tech and be 1 to 2 sentence. For isntance we have some AstralPhaser quotes that read a long poem or passage. That's too long for a tech quote.

Either this one or the other tech quote thread.
Maybe it would be wiser to change the written quotes first. Those, which are too long. And please, if you gonna revoice Astralphasers quotes, please do so with Padam's (?) as well. He did the majority of PH Era quotes and they are just unbearable to listen to...

So I am going though the tech audio quotes and I have found the following.

1. Architecture is WAY too soft to hear.

2. Basketry is about Tom and Jerry and not Baskets.

3. Controlled Fire just as a weird quote.

4. Falconry is too soft.

5. Gathering is a bit long.

6. Hot Air Balloons is a bit soft.

7. Natural Pigment is a bit weird.

8. Nomadic Lifestyle is WAY too long and has the wrong wording.

9. Petroglyphs is also WAY too long and he messes up by saying "complaining" brooks.

10. Plowing is a bit soft.

11. Scavenging is a bit long but it is also funny. So I don't know.

12. Skinning seems odd for the time its at. More like animal rights than skinning.

13. Ancestor Worship seems a bit long. Even if its from "Last of the Mohicans". I guess we could keep it.

Here is a list of all AstralPhaser's techs. Note that many of these are just fine such as Cooking and Games. But others (listed above) are not.

- Agriculture (I think unused)
- Basketry
- Carving
- Chopping
- Controlled Fire
- Cooking
- Cooperation
- Cultural Identity
- Games
- Gathering
- Ground Stone
- Hand-Hammer Percussion
- Modern Physics
- Natural Pigments
- Nautropathy
- Nomadic Lifestyle
- Oral Gradation
- Petroglyphs
- Piercing
- Poison Crafting
- Prehistoric Dance
- Ritualism
- Scavenging
- Scraping
- Shelter Building
- Skinning
- Trapping
- Weaving

I hope I did not miss any of his tech quotes.

EDIT: There are also many quotes from RI which some are used and some are not. I am not sure which do and which don't.

Ah, so his name is AstralPhaser? Sorry to Padam, if he exists at all.

I also tried to do a quote, but I only have a build-in Mike and the background was quite annyoing. I can try again next weekend and upload an example if you want to.

After receiving a PM request from Hydromancerx, I decided to take a look at the forum topic here, and I can be of assistance.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ynet8qyuf8ajm0y/C2C - Falconry.mp3

This is something I whipped up in five minutes, using the "ding" file provided earlier in the forum topic. I can do others if desired. I don't think volume level is a concern for me.

Not what I was expecting but sicne this is happening and people are offering then we might as well redo some of them.

@Grimith

6. Ground Stone

7. Hand Hammer Percussion

8. Modern Physics

9. Naturopathy

10. Oral Tradition

11. Poison Crafting
"The venom clamors of a jealous woman poison more deadly than a mad dog's tooth."

12. Prehistoric Dance
"Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain."

13. Ritualism
"Ritual will always mean throwing away something: destroying our corn or wine upon the altar of our gods."

14. Scavenging (Its a bit long but funny)
"If your friend is already dead, and being eaten by vultures, I think it's okay to feed some bits of your friend to one of the vultures, to teach him to do some tricks. But only if you're serious about adopting the vulture."

15. Shelter Building
"A home is not a mere transient shelter: its essence lies in the personalities of the people who live in it."

16. Trapping
"When elephant steps on a trap, no more trap."

17. Weaving
"Man does not weave this web of life. He is merely a strand of it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself."

A BIG Thanks in advance! :worship:

@ C2C Team

The techs Astral Phaser did that need to be replaced.

- Basketry (not fit for the tech)
- Chopping (too weird)
- Cultural Identity (too long)
- Gathering (too long)
- Natural Pigments (too weird)
- Nomadic Lifestyle (too long)
- Petroglyphs (too long)
- Piercing (its about arrows not piercing)
- Scraping (too long)
- Skinning (about animal rights not skinning)

In short we need new text before people start recording these quotes.

These are the best quotes I could find

Nomadic Lifestyle

Petroglyphs

"I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free." - Michelangelo

Piercing

"I am too old for an eyebrow piercing but too young for an eyebrow lift." - Max Cannon

Scraping - the one we have is the best one there is, even if it's a bit long, at least it refers to the actual tech, any other quotes i found are not even close

Skinning

"There are more ways of skinning a cat than rubbing its fur the wrong way." - J. Carter Brown

Michelangelo would fit perfectly with sulpture, imo.
Aside from that, great findings.

I had ninety minutes to spare today.

@cdman1990

Thanks for helping. I will pick the ones I like from yours and post below. Note that Petroglyphs and Piercing I did not like from your choices. I may go back to the old quotes, unless you can find better ones.

@Grimith

Great job with those! Here are some more based on cdman1990's choices.

Basketry
"The way to become rich is to put all your eggs in one basket and then watch that basket."

Chopping
"Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe."

Cultural Identity
"A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people."

Gathering
"For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad."

Natural Pigments (I really like this one.)
“The greatest masterpieces were once only pigments on a palette.”

Nomadic Lifestyle
"A nomad I will remain for life, in love with distant and uncharted places."

Scraping
"The preparation of animal hides by traditional populations in Ethiopia, Alaska and Canada today show that it can take eight hours to scrape a single hide."

Skinning
"There are more ways of skinning a cat than rubbing its fur the wrong way."

Thanks again! :goodjob:
