A bit off topic but when did people start using "aussie" to describe Australians?

About the same time we started using Yank to describe US citizens, during WWII I would suspect although Aussie is an Aussie term I think not an English slang term.

Sorry to disappoint you Sidhe but this is one you can't blame America for.

It clearly states in the linked article that the body was mixed up at a private mortuary in Kuwait which was WELL after it had left the US military Hospital in Baghdad and into the custody of the Australian Army.

Yeah, I scoured the whole article, hoping for a chance to jump on the anti-U.S. bandwagon (just to follow the crowd for a change), but couldn't find any real facts backing up such a stance. Oh, well. Maybe next time.
