Considering I may be getting an iPod for Christmas, I'd like to find some kind of mp3 tagging program to make sure all my files are correctly named. And since I have 1600 songs, I'd like this program to be automatic. :p

I tried MusicBrainz but it doesn't work for me - I made a nick and everything and it always fails to connect to the server.

I can get a tagging program easily, but the emphasis is on automatic. I'm not going through 1600 songs manually. :p

EDIT: It doesn't have to be automatic, per se. If there is one that is VERY simple to use and I can rename the songs in a few seconds I probably wouldn't mind as much...

Moodlogic.
www.moodlogic.com
10,000 Songs will cost you about $30. I paid it. Well worth your money. :)

Is there a free trial of some sort?

And when you say 10,000 songs, do you mean it costs me $30 to tag 10,000 songs, are it costs me $30 to access a list of 10,000 song tags?

There is a free trial, but I think it is only for a few songs.
From their FAQ:
"1. How much does MoodLogic cost?
You can test drive MoodLogic on a sample of songs. To use MoodLogic to activate your entire music collection (up to 10,000 songs), you have to either buy MoodLogic for $39.95 or earn "activation credits" by submitting manual song profiles..."

The activation of 10,000 songs means you can retag and rename 10,000 of your songs according to their library.
Your songs are all recognized and activated automatically using a special algorithm they developed - the name of the file or the ID3 info in it are not an obstacle. The program has an option to sort all the names of your songs correctly, and the ID3 info aswell - and it works like a charm (I renamed 1400 songs, and now the list looks beautiful - all songs correctly named, capitalized etc).

If you have more questions you can look at the FAQ page, it has lots of useful info regarding the program and it's applications.
I'm starting to sound like a sales promoter... ;)

Windows Media Player 9.

Just add all your files to the media library, and then quickly edit them. Let the computer rename them each to "file obtained illegally, criminal user."

 Good point!

Do you really think CG will pay $30 to ID the files when he wouldn't pay for them in the first place!

Ahh, the hidden downside of pirating music - that you have all the hassle of having to then tag the files.

Can I post any thread regarding digital music without other posters taking the moral high road?

I'd like it if you gave me some answers rather than insult me. I am aware that what I am doing is illegal, I don't need you to shove it down my throat.

And, for the thousandth time, I DO buy CDs, and I DO spend the majority of my spending money on CDs.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm finding that not as many of my songs are mistagged as I thought, it shouldn't take too long to go through them manually. Of course, this assuming that songs that are tagged properly (Arist - Song) have the correct name for the song. But it would be way too much of a hassle to check each one like this.

What do you mean by tagging?

Sorry, i'm mp3 illerate.

Just the file name/info that comes up when you play them. dunno how you need it for Ipod.

and this isn't illegal cos mp3s themselves aren't illegal :p

ID3 Tags are used on MP3 files to keep file information regarding the artist, composer, album, date of release, ratings, song name, genre, music label, etc. It is useful for MP3 players in your car or the handheld ones because then those little players that support ID3 tags and CD Text will display the information so you know all about what you're listening to.

you might want to try id3-tagIt, I used it once and was very satisfied http://www.id3-tagit.de

it's pretty simple and easy to use, especially for batch tagging.

Edit: corrected link

Well my (and most) mp3s have two names - the tag, and the one displayed in Kazaa. After deleting Kazaa from my computer I found that alot of the names in Kazaa are different in the tags. And since the iPod displays the tag names, not the Kazaa names, I need to have them correct or else using it will be a pain.

I'll try that link kaeptnovi, thanks.

EDIT: Your link has nothing at the end. I tried .com, .org, and .net, none of them worked.

ID3-tagit doesn't exist. I checked domain availability and every domain was free.

Wait, never mind - http://www.id3-tagit.de/

Kazaa probably just uses the file names, i meant the ID3 tags.
