I was just wondering why animated avatars are not allowed?

Because it's hard to read posts when there's an animation next to it. I found it very hard to read your posts with the banana avatar. Your eyes almost always focus on animation before text.

I personally don't think a dancing banana here and there is all that bad, but if you allow animated avatars, you allow it for everybody, and a little moving image next to half of every single post would be EXTREMELY annoying.

At sites I visit that allow animated avatars, I get very tired of seeing the motion constantly. I then opt to turn off viewing of the avatars. If people don't see the avatar, what's the point?

It dances in sync with anything with a real beat (ie, not the harder types of rock and such, it just dosent work...)

But notice I said "At sites that allow animated avatars".

At CFC, they are not allowed. From the Forum Rules:

There are hundreds of Civish avatars for you to choose from. If you have 300 or more posts, you can give yourself a custom (non-animated) avatar.

Xen, if you knew we didn't allow custom avatars for a long time, you would be content with non-animated avatars.

Animated avatars are just too distracting. Besides, with avatar size capped at 4 KB, you can't have very good animated avatars anyway. Animated smilies are enough for me.

Yeah, like TF said, just be glad you have customized avatars at all.

I remember the days we used to go by whatever we had in the CFC avatars group for a year or more... <shudders>

I hope that not a crack at the quality of my Banana.... I think its pretty damn good for what it is.....

any way, would it be allowed (or even possible) to put it in my sig?
