AZ-01: Donut World

Turn 1 - 825 BC - Meditation discovered, research moves to Priesthood. Move troops back within borders. Set research up to 40% to half the time to learn, -6g but we have 244.

Turn 2 - 800 BC - Mustering troops to head on to Brennus. More immortals. Immortal kills one archer in barb city. It's pop. 2 now so we can take it over.

Turn 3 - 775 BC - Mustering troops continues. Barb attacking immortal pulls out to heal a turn.

Turn 4 - 750 BC - Immortal takes barb city, Tharcian is founded. No more cities for a bit. Immortal W of Brennus finds a goody hut on the lake, but it only yields a stinking map that doesn;t reveal crap other than a barb city (3 pop) to the SW.

Turn 5 - 725 BC - Brennus has a 3rd city, 2 immortals dispatched to check it out/destroy... Main force moves out west. Priesthood researched, Code of Laws up.

Turn 6 - 700 BC - More troop movement. Worker building a road to Tharcian. Immortal kills a barb near Karakorum.

Turn 7 - 675 BC - Just found a Great General stashed in Pasargarda, going to rendesvouz him with the 6th Immortal of pasargardae to make a super soldier.

Turn 8 - 650 BC - Hatsheput adopts Hereditary Rule. Immortal in Thracian holds off 2 barb warriors attacking from the north. Cancelled open borders, declared wqar on Brennus, his northern city only had 1 archer and it is sacked. 22G pillaged. Troops turn to capitol.

Turn 9 - 625 BC - The pillaging begins... whip a granary in Persepolis.

Turn 10 - 600 BC - More pillaging... start the Oracle in Persepolis.. I don't know if we will get it... but gold will be nice. I will switch off because we definitely don't want to finish it before Code of Laws.. upped research to 60% (-27gpt) due in 10, Oracle due in 10. Pillage and city rape should help the gold situation.

Turn 11 - 575 BC - More pillaging, holding my own against the high cost of science! Immortals catch 2 Celt warriors north of Thracian and give them the beat down.

Turn 12 - 550 BC - Razed Vienne for 120 gold, captured 3 workers lost 1 Immortal. Brennus on the ropes. Upped science to 70% (-34gpt), Code of Laws in 7, Oracle in 8. Pillaged too!

Turn 13 - 525 BC - Pillaged more.

Turn 14 - 500 BC - Pillaged 136g from Bibracte, captured 1 worker, lost 3 lowest ranked Immortals (in chess, the pawns go first), and in the darkness pops another Celt city.. sigh. A great general (Zhuge Liang) is born in Persepolis.. going to park him there. Looks like that's a size 5 town left for Brennus.. I won't be able to get it out in this turn. Upped science to 100% (-51gpt), Code of Laws in 3.. would suggest whipping Oracle if we can for slingshot to Philosophy or something else. A great prophet is due in a couple of turns too.

Turn 15 - 475 BC - Moved troops toward Tolosa. I want to take one more turn to destroy Brennus. Picked off a couple barbs.

Turn 16 - 450 BC - Razed Tolosa for 73g, lost an Immortal and an Axeman, captured 2 more workers and now Brennus is gone.. Barb city popped up just south (or north on this silly map ;D)...

Summary.. erased Brennus, managed to take a 20% science rate and get up considerably higher so as to learn Meditation/Priesthood/Code of Laws in what will turn out to be about 18 turns and hav e more money in the treasury than when I started... CoL due in 2, Oracle in 4. Founded a city near the copper/hills/cows/oasis to the NE.. Great General parked in capitol, great prophet due on next turn there. We are in a position to found not one, but 2 religions, get the Oracle, and dominate. Should probably lower science slider after CoL. Might want to get the Great Wall going in one of the other cities, Pasargarde maybe.

We could have run scientists in Persepolis after its happy cap became full, unless we're planning to produce Great Angry Citizens there. CoL can be micromanaged down to one turn by having Pasargadae run two scientists. It will still produce an Immortal in 2 turns. Plus we'd get a GS in 17 turns. That's basically researching two techs at the same time for the cost of one.

Hatty offers two resources for our horses so I'm guessing she hasn't got War Chariots. Kill, crush, maim, destroy!

THE ROSTER:

azaris
Orion071
dawn
Sealot
Aoxomoxoa (just wiped the plains with Brennus)
eznihm (UP for 15 turns of kill, crush, maim, destroy)
Codeman (needs to let us know if he wants a skip this round)

I didn't bring my Warlords CD in to work today. How many cities does Hatty have? Agree that now is the time to go get her since she doesn't have her UU.

Well played Aox. :goodjob:

Having the game for a relatively short amount of time (I'm still getting over Civ 3 habits like too many roads, although in this case since we have acquired a pretty large workforce not alot else to do), scientists and the like I'm not good at yet. This is why I joined the SG to learn.

Hatty has horses, you can see them SW of Thebes. Another target might be Hannibal, who has settled northeast out of the fog near Pasargadae and Susa.

Oh I didn't take it as being overly critical, I WANT to be criticized, I need to learn the details. They aren't readily apparent in the game, and pointing out the little things like that will make my play stronger.'

Not sure either, but I do see that pasture on those horses. She didn't found a religion so we might be able to swing her over to being a good friend.

i haven't played yet. just took a look at the save before i dig in after work. please offer guidance!

hatty has horses. she has at least 4 cities. we enjoy OB with the Egyptians and Carthage.

* will lower science slider after CoL
* will refocus on Immortal production after Oracle?
* perform recon on Hatty via OB?

what to grab with oracle? other advice on whom to target next? i don't think we can do much without some more military production - maybe that's just the ineffective warmonger in me talking.

any guidance will be helpful as i start my turnset this evening.

We can get Philosophy from The Oracle if we want to, so we get Confu+Tao like Aoxo said. Don't know what we'll do with them, though. I wouldn't waste The Oracle on this.

The only thing that is stopping us from steamrollering into an early conquest victory are Alexander's phalanges. Catapults would help there. Currency enables us to build apothecaries, which would solve our health problems.

Can we keep The Oracle on hold until we invent Mathematics (6 turns), then take Civil Service for free? That would grant us the Big B. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

If Hatty hasn't built war chariots yet, you can dash and pillage the horses before she was a chance to build any. Thebes looks like a ripe target, hit her hard with a big stack. The only problem is it's a holy city so might have some cultural defense.

The thing that worries me about holding onto the Oracle, is Hatty has marble.. hard to believe she isn't making it. Nice call on the horse pillage, should we decide on Hatty. I believe Hannibal is pretty weak, look at that score. He can't have more than 3 cities.

Hard to say how close Hatty might be to completing The Oracle. Losing it is no biggie, though, as then we get to do so several turns of deficit research which is almost like getting a free tech. But getting Bureaucracy would be massive, since Persepolis would put out obscene amounts of gold. I think it's much more worthwhile than Philo+Tao (we have no use for Pacifism).

i think we either take hannibal or hatty.

if hatty is building oracle and we beat her she will have gold for upgrades soon. does she have metals? spears? war with immortals vs. ???

a scouting mission for hannibal's cities would be necessary to take him. we know the general direction but little else about his cities. how many? where? looks like a softer target.

i think we need more info.

if she's building the oracle, she might not be amassing an army. i'm leaning towards taking her out first.

hannibal is stuck in the unenviable position of playing catch up if we do. i'm not certain he's in a position to attack us from the south but if we attack egypt it would probably be a good call on his part.

a rush to thebes seems to be a good tactic - :yup:

hold the oracle, build more units. i can recon early, then coordinate the pillage a couple turns before declaring war.

how many Immortals should i have at the ready before the invasion?

Yes mathematics does take only 6 turns to achieve, but we would have to change to it immediatly and not complete col, our treasury would be empty before we fully research maths. I say we gamble and hold off oracle for 6 turns and immediatly switch to maths.

As of our next war operation, I say we take out Hatty. We haven't explored enough Hannibals lands so let's play it safe and take out our lovely neighbour. They seem to only have one horse resource, so pillage it and I doubt we'll see much of her unique unit. After killing Hatty I'm not sure can we anymore rely on immortals, it all depends how fast we get to kill her and what units we have left.

We will pop out great person next turn from Persepolis. Great Prophet most likely (have we used specialists? Well, not for long enough anyway). Shall we make a shrine to our new holy city after we discover confucianism and spread it over our lands or merge him with Persepolis?

Agreed with Codeman, send a scout (well, actually our only scout is in west and going to get killed next turn by barbarian archer :shake:) or ehm an immortal there to scout eastern lands.

One very little thing, we forgot to cottage one floodplain tile in Karakorum, the northern one. Let's do that, I doubt our workers has much to do anyway.

Btw goodjob with last turnset and annihilating Brennus :goodjob:

Don't forget you need CoL to get Civil Service. A potential for :smoke:. It's possible to MM so that CoL arrives in 1 turn and Mathematics in 5 turns more (run 2 scientists in Persepolis and Pasar and let them starve a bit). The Oracle then completes one turn later. Maybe there's a way to shave another turn off somewhere, it's getting late.

We'll probably not have too many cities to convert so unless you're planning to go into Organized Religion I say we forget this religion nonsense and concentrate on bashing heads.

Nooooo, Bertieeee!

and during this time we scout hatty and hannibal. since we have open borders with both we can use an immortal or two or three. this would allow for a clear battle plan. as a city is found place a sign with the number & type of of defenders in the city. in 7 turns we could have gained good intel on both our future victims, code of laws, civil service, and math. meanwhile we get a few more troops.

or we could just declare and hope the element of surprise is all we need.

I think it's pretty amazing that guy's lasted this long. There's freakin' barbs everywhere.

looked at the save. we are much more powerful than anyone. hatty suddenly has started to rise. my guess is this is due to suddenly building war chariots. right now we are more powerful. if she keeps building the way she is this will change. i think we should take her now. waiting will let her build more chariots.

move units in that direction and mm as discussed above for the 3 techs in 7 turns.
