Bad Actors?

Are there any actors that can singlehandedly derail a movie for you? I have several.

Nicholas Cage - While "Raising Arizona" is a classic, and he was perfect for that part, he has been terrible in EVERY other movie I've seen him in. His role is always the same. Moping dope in over his head. He is nearly tolerable in non-action movies, ala "Family Man" and "Adaptation", but has a long way to go towards redeeming "Leaving Las Vegas, " a non-action wank-fest. I flat out know I will not like a movie he is in. I feel almost psychic.

Kevin Costner - Possibly the biggest wimp that ever walked this planet. He is okay as the over-the-hill everyman athlete as in "Bull Durham", but nothing else suits his trademark wussiness.

George Clooney - I want to surgically remove that smart-ass smirk. With a spoon. A dull spoon. If he had any semblence of humbleness, I might like him.

John Travolta - The wideness of his mouth, unique yet oh-so-annoying voice, and "Face-Off" keeps him at the bottom of the heap. "Grease", "Primary Colors", "Battleground Earth", has the man ever been in a good movie?

Additions:

Jeff Goldblum - While he nearly crosses the "so annoying it borders on entertaining" line, I can't get past the incessant mumbling and speech pauses. Oh, he wants to think he is a great actor, but he ain't.

And, in the "so far, okay, but one bad movie away from the abyss" category is...

Mel Gibson - The stuttering baboon he played in "Conspiracy Theory" left a permanently bad taste in my mouth. The mulleted psycho in "Lethal Weapon 1-19" and Mel was teetering on the edge. "Historical" suck-a-thons like "Braveheart" and "Patriot" didn't help him any. But, he was solid in "Payback" and "Road Warrior", and did the job in "Signs", "Ransom", and was actually pretty good in "We Were Soldiers".

And then I think of "What Women Want," and ol' Mel isn't looking so good anymore.

I agree with your bad opinion on Jeff Goldblum. :p

Nicholas Cage BOOOO!, anyone else I can deal with.

Pulp Fiction, yes, I liked that movie, couldn't stand Travolta. Thankfully, he was shot.

Richard Gere. 'nuff said

Gere. The very name and my mind blanks out, as a protective measure, but I am still ashamed I forgot to include him. He makes Costner look like Bronson. Hell, he makes Ashley Judd look like Bronson.

And now, yet another addition, in the "If one person would be hit by a falling meteor, it better be him" category...

Adam Sandler - Have you ever noticed that while some of his movies have funny parts, he himself is never funny in them? Know why? Maybe because he is withholding all his funniness, lest we die laughing? No, it's because he ISN'T FUNNY.

I thought he was quite good in it, and I liked his character. I was kind of pissed off when he was shot, especially considering Bruce Willis shot him. I didn't like his character, but I think that's mostly because I don't like him.

Call me strange, but I also liked Michael, and thought Travolta was good in that.

Also, I thouroughly enjoyed The Patriot.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Costner is just as bad as Cage.

George Clooney - I want to surgically remove that smart-ass smirk. With a spoon. A dull spoon. If he had any semblence of humbleness, I might like him.

I like him --IF he's in the right role. I liked Ocean's 11. I didn't used to like him. He's ok.

John Travolta - The wideness of his mouth, unique yet oh-so-annoying voice, and "Face-Off" keeps him at the bottom of the heap. "Grease", "Primary Colors", "Battleground Earth", has the man ever been in a good movie?

I haven't seen a LOT of films with Travolta, but he is a good actor. Sometimes he has the same annoyance factor as Cage and Costner, but he is definitely better than those two.

Mel Gibson - The stuttering baboon he played in "Conspiracy Theory" left a permanently bad taste in my mouth. The mulleted psycho in "Lethal Weapon 1-19" and Mel was teetering on the edge. I really like Gibson. He's animated, can be funny, can be extremely serious, can be anything in between. He's a top notch actor with a lot of talent.

Richard Gere --um, yeah. Boorrrriiiinnnngggg.

Adam Sandler --definitely can be funny, but too over done. 12 year old in 30 year old body.

Maybe I was a little harsh on Gibson. He's a good actor with lows, not a bad actor with highs. I officially retract him.

Have to disagree with Travolta. Swordfish and A Civil Action were both perfect Travolta roles, and I think he did great with both of them. I enjoyed Primary Colors immensely as well, but it happens to be one of my favorite books.

Nick Cage was good in Con Air and Trapped in Paradise as well, although he can be annoying.

Robin Hood was an OK Costner role, the rest have been all-out suckfests.

Keanu Reeves will keep me away from the movies, and I categorically reject every one of his movies between Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and The Matrix as utter garbage, mostly due to his utter lack of acting skills. Curiously those two films make decent bookends, although Bill & Ted is not quite as amusing now that I've passed the age of 15.

New inductee:

Keanu Reeves - I haven't seen the Matrix. Normally I love a no-holds-barred geek fest, but for me, Reeves would turn it into a REEK fest. (heh heh, witty, huh?)

Devil's Advocate, Sweet November, Speed(not bad, in all fairness, but not because of our boy Keanu).

EDIT - Do'h! Metalhead beat me.

Oh, gag me! I HATED his fake southern accent in Con Air. If he had just used his normal voice, I would have loved 'im. But, dang, that fake accent threw me off --way off! :p

Other than that, Con Air was the bomb! :D

Gere is good in movies like Unfaithful and Mothman Prophecies. He does too many romantic comedies that blur his rep. He's actually a really good actor.

I stick by Jason London as the worst actor ever. Keanu Reeves is up there, but atleast he's made some good movie choices. Keanu does not carry a movie, the movie carries him.

EDIT: Nick Cage was the only bad part of Con Air.

Yeah, you're probably right on this one. I've only seen him for a few minutes in a non-romantic movie, and he did impress me.

Owen Wilson (the blonde Wilson brother): Some decent movies, but I can't stop looking at his crazy nose to take him seriously.
