[Vanilla] Base Game Patch Notes (February 2018)

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/226670013

Looks like the siege bug is still there. Watch 1:44 in the Firaxis Zulu gameplay video on Twitch. Their unit was eliminated, but the siege status wasn't removed. One of the devs even mentioned it. Although once he moved a slinger away from the city the siege status did properly lift. But it's possible that in another turn it would have updated properly. But either way, that city was not under a proper siege at 1:44 (one hour and 44 not one minute) in the video.
Are they even playing the actual build? They often use older versions in which they setup their plays...

Nope, no change, not toned down.
too bad. I would have welcomed a nerf to chopping

There's a sure way to finding out if you are on the new version.

Check what colors Australia and Gitarja are.. assuming you have either DLC.

Good call.

Turns out mine is installed, in that case. Started a session just to check whether start position issues have been fixed (I've got R&F on order so won't be playing a full game), and immediately ran across a bug where the 'suggested city location' icon appears and isn't removed even after that area ceases to be a valid settlement spot:

I think I spotted a bug where Persia has a damaged slinger that's been embarked in a lake since early in the game. I think it must be trying to heal. It's nothing gamebreaking, though.

On paper at least. Glad they got to this.

Also happy to see the buff for artillery against naval units... although I'm probably the only one.

Unmentioned but the new/leaked monuments and palace designs for England, Spain, etc. are in!

Seriously? Jeez, I was gonna youtube until RnF hits... now I'm gonna start up a Vickie or Spain game!

How are people feeling about the new colors for Australia?

I just booted up a new game in the Information Age and I was getting 9 science from a 13 pop city, so yeah that's definitely not 0.5. Looks more like 0.7

Check the tooltip for science output in any city bar - that will tell you exactly how much science you're getting per pop (obviously it's easiest to calculate with a 1-pop city). My capital immediately after settlement was generating 0.6 for its citizen.

Okay, kind of an important thing I don't see mentioned in the notes or anyone asking about:

Will the AI now declare war outside of joint wars?

It already did in my experience, so no need for a patch change.

I played my session long enough to encounter other civs - I was on a large island so can't conclude much, plus it was a single case and even under the old algorithm civs sometimes started distantly from one another. I had two city states and a civ (Arabia) sharing my island, all a reasonable distance away - I didn't check how many tiles, but I had room to expand both southwest and southeast before hitting Arabian cities/Bandar.

Bandar had a starting location next to Torres del Paine - not sure I've seen a CS start that close to a Natural Wonder before in Civ VI.

I eventually went to war with Arabia to grab Bandar from them - Arabia responded appropriately by buying horsemen, and it had walls up in its cities earlier than usual (I declared war on about turn 95). It garrisoned with a horseman, having moved an archer out, and exhibited the usual behaviour where the garrisoned unit wouldn't attack.

Target selection doesn't seem noticeably improved - a horseman attacked an intact archer instead of a swordsman it could kill, though an Arabian archer had targeted the swordsman. Arabia never had two missile units in the same place so I can't tell whether coordinating fire has improved, but the AI evidently doesn't coordinate ranged with melee attacks any better than it did.

Not sure if this is new, though I think it is, but the 'X has been defeated' notification now says "An unmet city-state has been defeated" rather than "An unmet player" if you haven't met the victim.

Um, am I the only one who's seeing -1 Unit maintenance on, like, every single unit? In the tooltip. It appears to be a UI error only as the units do cost maintenance according to my expense report, but the UI is reporting that every single unit in the game costs "-1 Gold" maintenance. I disabled all my mods, this is very strange.

Edit: Verified my game files and no change, dunno what this is heh.

I reinstalled my whole game and am still seeing this, running no mods. Can anyone else verify? It shows -1 maintenance in the production window and tech/civic tree but the Civilopedia shows the correct info.

I have the same thing. My first Scout shows "Maintenance: -1 Gold" in the Choose Production screen.

EDIT: That would be right, though, wouldn't it? They're just expressing maintenance as the amount of gold it will cost you.

Nah, try checking a Settler. Or an Artillery unit. They all list -1. Then compare to buildings, which have maintenance costs listed as positive values.

And a Scout usually costs 0. So -1 would still be wrong.

Hmmm. Seems broken to me. I can't enter any city production screens.

Barbarian camps still ridiculous in terms of unit production. A unit every other turn, if not more frequent.

How will I know if the patch installed?

Simplest way is to look at the UI bar when starting a game (or, as another poster suggested, if you have the appropriate DLC check if Indonesia is now white on red and Australia black on green in the leader selection screen). Post-patch, the Reports tab - which formerly was simply the word 'Reports' - has been replaced with an icon.

While we're on the topic of maintenance, Campuses placed but not yet completed cost 1 gold maintenance each. Not sure if this was always the case.

Someone on a German site reported that in his current game, the GA/GG bonuses didn't work at all. Worse, he said he can't use builder charges for Petra any longer. Can anyone confirm this?
