[R&F] Based on the new features - which civilizations and leaders should be introduced in R&F?

These speculations are fun, especially when we do not have leaked portraits like last year. I suppose they'll be more fun when the first looks start being released.

Looking forward to Tuesday.:D

Here’s my prediction for Rise and Fall:

New civs:
  • Canada - Louis Riel
  • Georgia - Tamar
  • Iroquois - Jigonhsasee
  • Korea - Seondeok
  • Mali - Mansa Musa
  • Mongolia - Genghis Khan
  • Ottoman - Suleiman
  • Portugal - Maria I
New leader:
  • Anna Nzinga - Kongo
Or
  • Chandragupta II - India

My biggest nightmare lineup for Rise and Fall

1.Canada
2. Argentina
3. Gran Colombia
4. Nigeria
5. New Zealand
6. Mexico
7. Cuba
8. South Africa

Alt leader for Australia, Menzies
Definitely would fill out the Americas though. ;)

Hungary is popular as well. Or Romnia. And Beaker Culture is heavily needed.

I actually wouldn't mind Hungary or Romania being added to the game. I've more issue with Belgium, Switzerland, and Finland because their best leader options are from later time periods (usually 1800s-1900s) and I find them less interesting than say Matthias Corvinus or Vlad Tepes.

@Guandao You forgot Lichtenstein, Andorra, and Monaco. Those need to be added stat. :p

If the Iroquois return, I'd be surprised if they used Hiawatha again. I expect they'd either go with Joseph Brant or, as some here have proposed, Jigonhsasee.

I admit I know quite little about the Iroquois Confederacy and its leaders. Jigonhsasee does sound like a plausible fit, so I’ve updated my prediction :)

Now that it has been brought up in the general discussion thread (I hadn't thought of this before I mentioned it) is that in the base game we had Brazil who hosted the 2016 Summer Olympics. South Korea is hosting the Winter Olympics starting the day after the expansion releases. More hopeful confirmation that Korea will be included.
Edit: Oops- Releases the day before

And then it would probably account for yet another achievement.

In your opinion, does the appearance of Alexander under a separate ancient Macedonian civ annuls the possibility of a first appearance of a Balkan nation?

There are plenty of leaders for Balkan states, which some of them can fit nicely for R&F's mechanics.
And it is a cultural sphere that hade never been represented, as far as I know.
Maybe Stephen Dusan, or the more interesting choices of Karadore Petrvic' and Petar Njegos. Certainly a WWI leader (Nikola Pasic or Peter I) can align with the Alliance system.
Non-Serbs could be Tvrtko I of Bosnia, or maybe the female ruler Helen, queen of the Croats.

But why Gran Colombia though, i'd rather choose any Native american civ over Gran Colombia

Yeah, I think it's 100% guaranteed (okay, maybe 99.99%) that Korea will make it in given all the factors.

I agree, Korea is in. Mongols assured. The Dutch and Portugal are possible. Everyone else is fair game-- we really have few clues after only a few days of preview articles and a trailer. I would hope the First Look videos start up next week, and maybe then we will have a sense of what to expect civ-wise.

I would prefer Bulgaria to appear over one of the Yugoslavic nations, due to their history with the Byzantines. I also think Serbia/Bosnia/Croatia have had smaller territories compared to other European nations historically. I'm not really interested in a lot of those leaders you mentioned, because they are from later eras (1800s-1900s). I'm sure there will be people begging for a Marshal Tito-led Yugoslavia.

But why Gran Colombia though, i'd rather choose any Native american civ over Gran Colombia

It's popular because of Simon Bolivar's importance in South American history. Even though Gran Colombia didn't even last half a century before dividing into Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador.

If I had to choose another Post Colonial Nation Gran Colombia would be my first choice. It would be nice to have a Spanish speaking American Civ, but I agree that some Native representation is needed.

Updating my bets. Gods and Kings have had three civilizations never seen before (Sweden, Huns and Austria) I'll bet we'll see three again. Four female leaders out of a total of nine leaders seem to be ideal.

Returned civs 5/8

1. An Islamic civ: I think the Ottomans have a certain advantage here.
2. An East Asian civ: obviously Korea led by Seondeok
3. A Western European civ: I say Netherlands, although the Celts or Portugal have good possibilities.
4. A pre-Columbian civ: Incas, and South America is underrepresented.
5. An ancient/classic civ: I say Carthage, but why not Babylon? I think this will be implemented in a thematic DLC with the Hittites.

Civs never seen before 3/8

6. A modern civ: Canada, certainly.
7. An Eastern European Civ: Georgia, led by an iconic female leader: Tamar. And Caucasus was never represented by civilizations.
8. An African civ: Ashanti, led by Yaa Asantewaa.

Alternative leader:

Isabella: A leader who makes Spain focused on exploration.

I learned that Austria was actually in Civ 3 as a hidden civ.By that logic I would maybe replace one of the new ones with Mongolia or Portugal if that fortress does turn out to be a feitora. But it's up to you.

The Mongols is a plausible replacement for Ashanti, although this means losing a female leader.

I know Hungary isn't a Balkan nation but their territory has stretched into the Balkans in the past. In my opinion I think Hungary would be a good Central European Civ to have, if we need many more European Civs.

The Mongols can have a female leader, Mandukhai Khatun. The fact that Sean Bean's daughter is shooting arrows from a horse in the cinematic makes me think they'll give the Mongols a female leader this time.
