[R&F] Based on the new features - which civilizations and leaders should be introduced in R&F?

Queen of Sheba? Aside from the fact that we don't know her identity Saba (Sheba) is Yemen, not Ethiopia.

There is the theory that Ethiopia controlled Yemen at this point and that those with an Asiatic perspective continued to refer to the area as Saba. There's quite a long tradition associating the Queen of Sheba with Ethiopia (though sometimes she is described as coming from farther north in Kush). It wouldn't be unusual to refer to a region by the previous occupants, even if it was conquered or controlled by someone else.

Anyone know anything about Anton Strenger's interests? I know he's been a long-time Firaxis employee, so that might not help, but it could be worth thinking about.

Unlike other leader screens, Kane the leader of NOD will be presented in full FMV.
Ok, Now I know what NOD is. Definitely, not a serious wishlist. :p

It would be nice to know what his historical interests are. Ed Beach has an interest in Renaissance Europe, for example.

He's only ever worked at Firaxis on Civ V and VI since college, so you can't really point at outside efforts like boardgames like you can with Ed Beach.

The only thing I could glean from stalking his Twitter is that he once spent time in Japan. The man does not discuss his interests on the internet!

Could suggest the alternate leader may be for Japan, but that's a bit of a stretch.

If we are getting Canada, I hope after last night's episode that we get Ike Broflovski as its leader!

Agreed. Though I'd love a unification of Korea scenario. Tang China, Silla (Seondeok), Baekje, Goguryeo, Wa Japan.

I'm not sure where you start the scenario. Two years before Seondeok's death, Japan engaged in its Taika reform, in which Emperor Kotoku solidified power. The Baekje-leaning Soga clan was ousted and Chinese-style land reform was enacted. The Fujiwara became the dominant power in Japan till the Shogun era began. The Silla-Tang alliance culminated in 660 with the defeat of Baekje. Japanese forces attempted to intervene to restore Baekje in 663, but they were defeated at the Battle of Baekgang. Japan retreated to build coastal fortresses to repel what they assumed would be a Chinese invasion (that never happened). Some of those fortresses were useful when the Mongols invaded 600 years later.

slovakia, yes ! I am slovak origin. I am very serious in wishlist

What's a good historical Slovak leader? I thought they were always part of another kingdom or empire until the 20th century.

Good thing to note, hopefully Italy incoming as it was the birthplace of the Renaissance.
On the topic of the Dutch, if Wilhelmina does come I really hope we don't see a Dutch Resistance against her on several websites. I will personally be fine with the implementation as long as we get Polders. I'm expecting them to look beautiful with this game's art style and may surpass the Pairidaeza as the prettiest Unique Improvement.

I would like the Polders to be built on Coastal water tiles, if possible.

I've seen some speculation for Zewditu for Ethiopia, but I don't think she was nearly as influential as some people want. During her reign she was basically a puppet for Ras Tafari (Haile Selassie), sadly enough.

Haile Selassie or Taytu Betul would be much better fits for Ethiopia, in my mind, or hell, even the Queen of Sheba! Zewditu, however, did not do much, or had not much effect. In fact, Haile Selassie is more applicable to the Rise and Fall theme of the expansion, but I don't think we'll see him, as he appeared in Civ 5.
I agree about Zewditu, but I don't really want Selassie back either. Most historians consider Zar'a Ya'qob to be the greatest emperor of Ethiopia, so he has my vote.

You know I posted this on twitter but after some of the criticisms of Queen Seondeok (not all of them mind you) I kind of want every leader in the expansion to be a woman, Catherine, come on down, Tamar you can do it, Wilhelmina Yes we can, Hatshepsut I'm on board, Zenobia, Boudicca, the Trung Sisters, Elizabeth, Isabella, Dido, Theodora, Nanye'hi, Amina, Maria Theresa, Yaa Asantewaa, Omphale, Idia, Nzinga Mbande, Jigonhasasee, Taytu Betul, Shammuramat, Liliʻuokalani and many many more.

You know what, bring on Jeanne d'Arc.
I don't know why, but Liliʻuokalani just made me laugh way more than it should have. I adored Civ5's Maria Theresa, so yes, please to her, either leading Austria or as an alternate leader for Germany. Also let's have Anna Komnene lead the Byzantines just to make people really angry. :p

I was thinking Coastal Land, Marshes and Floodplains but I like this idea too. I'm guessing it would turn the tile into Coastal land as well.

I might have missed it, but has Ed Beach's ambiguous tweet been clarified yet?
He twerped:
"...and there's a 9th mystery leader who could go anywhere ;)"

Does that mean:
(a) a 2nd leader for an existing civ,
or (admittedly much less likely),
(b) a leader who could take the reins of any civ?

I am considering that the Netherlands might get the canals as a UI. More research into Dutch canals is required.

I'd rather the canals be able to be built for all Civs though, personally. Hopefully the next expansion is Civilization 6: Canals and Railroads!

In Ethiopian tradition, the royal family claimed to be descendants from the King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, if I recall correctly.
But that's neither here nor there, as the Queen of Sheba suggestion was mostly a joke.

I think I remember reading that somewhere, but even if accurate people are descended from foreigners all the time - on that basis Solomon could be an Ethiopian leader or Brutus of Troy (a mythical ancestor of the English monarchy) could be the English leader.

I think that you are referring to canals in the cities, right? If that is the case, wouldn't it better if it was a UB for the city center. Possibly replacing the sewer which is unlocked much earlier and gives additional bonuses. Now that I think about it, there are actually no UB's for buildings in the city center. Hmm...
