MIDDLE SEAT GETS BOTH ARMRESTS sdkjhfalskjdfhjkalsdfhlkasdhf

I had a middle seat recently. I was last in so the two people on my sides had occupied both armrests. My entire trip consisted in trying to take back these two armrests. I hope they got annoyed by the end.

One should always eat a bunch of broccoli just before flights in case of just such a development.

What if the people you're with are actually nice?

Use the bathroom.

If they're obese or giant or tall or whatever and it's a problem for them, that I can understand. But the rest of us.. You're on a plane. Suck it up. It isn't meant to be a pleasure dome and you aren't hedonism bot.
You want to lean back? Suck it up. You're on a plane. It isn't meant to be a pleasure dome and you aren't hedonism bot.

Jim Jefferies on airplane etiquette. He has a standup bit on youtube, and does the scene in Legit.

Can't link because it's not G-rated.
I will check it out! And write him a thank you for spreading the word.

You know you can bring giant thick sharp-and-pointy metal tent spikes as carry on?

Shes not fighting a vampire, silver spikes seem a bit excessive...

Just plant a half full tube of toothpaste on your neighbor and point it out to the attendant. No more neighbor :mischief:

You think that leaning back in an airplane seat is going to be comfortable.. in economy class?

Why wouldn't I want to lean back? Every single seat on the plane is back-leanable. 80% of all people who fly lean back. I've never seen or heard anyone ever complain about it.

I paid for a seat that leans back. Why wouldn't I use it? I'm not being a jerk to the person behind me.

Even when the person in front of me sits upright, there's still not much leg room. When they lean back, it makes it 10x worse for my legs, which now have nowhere to go. That trivial increase in comfort you gain by leaning your chair back makes it hugely more uncomfortable for me.

It's ridiculous that you're so aggressively trying to paint me as the big bad "hedonist" jerk here because I don't want someone lying down on my legs.

That was probably not a very wise line of argument from me, I admit. :p

If the person behind me said: "Excuse me sir, but I have rather large legs. Would you mind not reclining back so far? It would make my flight a lot more comfortable and I would greatly appreciate it.", then I would definitely not lean back all the way. I would be very considerate.

But most flights I'm on are super long and tiring, so I like to sleep. I can't sleep with my seat at a 90 degree angle. My seat comes with a way to lean back.. and virtually every single person on the plane does this. Why wouldn't I, if nobody's asking me to make an exception, due to their large legs or another consideration?

If I don't hear polite complaints from behind me, I assume that everything is a-ok. Why would I assume something else? 95-99% of the time the person in front of me leans back. Why would I not follow suit? I want to sleep too.
