Battlefield 3

Health regen ruins squad play and makes the medic rather useless. This isn't COD.

Medics ruined gameplay for several Battlefields with their full health revive, instant medpacks, ridiculously overpowered weapons (G36E Laser gun, LMGs, Voss AR, AR rockets etc...) and so on. Sniping a squad of 3 medics was impossible. Not that I like health regen, but I'll take it over a squad made of 5 medics and some other utility class any day.

Instant medpacks? Rockets?

Bf2 / 2142?

PC of course, there is a squad voice chat but its unreliable and nobody uses it.

It does get used in Squad Rush, but there's really no reason to use it since there's virtually no one who really plays like a squad except clans.

I can stand a really really slow health regen, like one that takes at least a minute, since that would not reward stupid gameplay. You'd still have to tactically withdraw and heal, which is basically what a realistic medic class should be doing; unrealistic medic class instant revives you while targeted by direct fire (something no actual military tells you to do i.e. "perform thoracic surgery without cover while being sniped/artillered/machine-gunned at a full sprint").
I'm for medics that have to behave semi-realistically, not as tag-your-it revivers.

I find it's a question of initiative and leadership. If someone does start actually using the mic, I find other people start either using it too or at least sort of listening to what the "plan" is. But people being what they are, everybody just sits back and wait for someone else to start using the microphone and break the ice. It seems TF2 is the only game where people actively use the mic and that's mostly because there people are "server loyal" and come back to the same server all the time.... Even random people in L4D don't use it much, and that's one game where it's really good to use it.

That's because the Source engine has a built in VOIP that, while far from perfect, is easy to use and highly effective.

I don't know while random people in L4D don't use it but I never play with random people :p

Anyone have any idea what the minimum system requirements will be for the PC version? I'm getting a laptop in December as a Xmas/Graduation present and I'm wondering what specs I should be shooting for, because I'm likely to be getting the PC and Xbox versions.

Minimum requirements for Battlefield 3

OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card.
Graphics card memory: 512 MB
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version

Recommended system requirements for Battlefield 3

OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
RAM: 4GB
Graphics card: DirectX 11 Nvidia or AMD ATI card, GeForce GTX 460, Radeon Radeon HD 6850
Graphics card memory: 1 GB
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version

I'm sure I've posted it here before but here it is again. You're going to need one expensive laptop, you'd be better off asking for a new desktop because it will be cheaper and play more games.

It's going to be for collage so a desktop is unfortunately out of the question :(. From newegg it looks like about 1100 or so should get what i need if I find a good sale.

I had a desktop for college. Of course it was in 2002 but whatever. I lived. Also before that I didn't even have a computer, and it seemed my education was fine.

On a more serious note, another game which does not support DirectX 9 and thus WinXP. I'm guessing by that time I'll finally have a new comp. Mine could run it, but it has XP, no way I'm buying 7 not even one year before I get a new computer anyway.

MW3 will require Steam so its not that big of a difference. Hopefully you won't always been to have Origin running when playing the game because no one (well, I don't) wants to run Origin, Steam and X-Fire all at once. Most people don't have many (if any) people on their Origin friend's list and I don't really see that changing much. I'm not opposed to having to run Origin if I need to patch the game though.

So far Origin is not required to be running ever again after download if you buy a game on it. I could probably uninstall it and still play BF2.

Awesome! JETS! Although 1:34 was my favourite part

I really wish the music was less crackly though.

That little robot is adorable.
The music does suck. But the most annoying thing about BF3 sound design by far is the ear raping interference sound that is played when BF3 logo is shown:cringe:

While I'm looking forward to jets I can't help but already be annoyed by them. Mostly due to players who think they can fly one only to instantly crash, players that use them as personal transports, and so forth.
