Battlefield 3

Such a promising game... I hope they don't utterly it up.

Steam EULA
7 USER GENERATED INFORMATION

"User Generated Information" means any information made available to other users through your use of multi-user features of Steam or to Valve through your use of the Software. User Generated Information may include, but is not limited to, chat, forum posts, screen names, game selections, player performances, usage data, suggestions about Valve products or services, and error notifications. Subject to the Valve privacy policy referenced in Section 1 above, as applicable, you expressly grant Valve the complete and irrevocable right to use, reproduce, modify, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, broadcast, and otherwise communicate, and publicly display and perform the User Generated Information and derivative works thereof in any form, anywhere, with or without attribution to you, and without any notice or compensation to you of any kind.

tl;dr all the information is just what is involved with Steam. Pretty standard and makes sense. Lots of developers track similar stuff in non-Steam games too (like Mass Effect 2, Halo, etc etc).

EA's EULA

2 Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION.

This and all other data provided to EA and/or collected by EA in connection with your installation and use of this Application is collected, used, stored and transmitted in accordance with EA’s Privacy Policy located at www.ea.com. To the extent that anything in this section conflicts with the terms of EA’s Privacy Policy, the terms of the Privacy Policy shall control.

Whereas EA's EULA doesn't specify it to just Origin, but indicates everything and sharing it with 3rd parties.

Programs like Punkbuster (which you more than likely have installed) also monitor your computer and software usage. Google (and many websites and advertisements) track you online. The list goes on.

They will still peddle your info to others as indicated by the later part. I'm betting there is also a part where they reserve the right to change any part of the TOS at their leisure.

Good news everybody! EA fixed the EULA.

Original:
Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol 37683v1 Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. Now it says this:

Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

EA knows that you care how information about you is collected, used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly. Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and EA would never sell your personally identifiable information to anyone, nor would it ever use spyware or install spyware on users’ machines. We and agents acting 37683v1 on our behalf do not share information that personally identifies you without your consent, except in rare instances where disclosure is required by law or to enforce EA’s legal rights.

Also going to be till 10th of October on the exact same map with the exact same game mode.

Also, bugs found know will never get fixed in time to their release.

I'd call it a demo.

Strange they will only have one map, that is just lazy. The RO2 beta started off with two maps, then they swapped them out for 3 others, then swapped those out for the other ~5 maps and they fixed a tonne of bugs during the beta (and still are releasing patches every couple of days or so to tune up any remaining issues). That was a good beta.

If this was reddit I'd be downvoted heavily for this, but I can sense EA pulling one of those stuns on us quite easily.

The game is just insanely hyped and the alpha issues plus the beta being in the same map just increase suspicions that they're focusing on that map and keeping it good for marketing purposes while ignoring others.

They've already ruined great games (I shall never forget about Mercenaries 1:PoD illegitimate son) and considering how stale the MW series is, they just showcase some nice graphics and how more fancy they are than its competition and are able to sit on a ton of money.

BC2 still today has issues, AFAIK there are still people under Vietnam with PBR boats and even the wrong victory/loss text issue which has been around for the longest time have not yet been fixed.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I'm not going to rush to get the game, I'll give it a month. If there's good feedback, I'll gladly buy it, if there isn't (which is what I'm afraid of), I won't have wasted good money on another game that only sold as it did because of its predecessors and its ads.

This (obviously) isn't reddit, no one here cares what would happen if you posted this there.

Yeah it is rather suspicious, they really should include more than one map and game mode. Though it will still sell like hotcakes and millions of people will still enjoy the crap out of it.

Well I've just played my first 2 games of the beta and it's fantastic so far. Even on an Xbox the graphics are absolutely beautiful just a bit glitchy right now. Gameplay wise it's good so far although the lack of conquest is depressing. Audio has been lackluster at best. The guns simply do not sound like weapons right now and the game overall is too quiet. Long stretches of silence is something that I really wouldn't expect on a battlefield.

Iirc they recorded the actual gun sounds firing and they really aren't as loud as they often are in movies and games. Also for some reason the Alpha trial is still in my Origin account

EDIT: Good news everybody!

Except EA isn't developing the game, DICE is, and more importantly the beta for BC2 only had one map and game mode, Rush on Port Valdez. They can't give people the entire game that would be a giant download and defeat the purpose of a beta. We're only supposed to test the gameplay and balance, and get a view of what the game is like. They've already made hundreds of changes since Alpha testing, and any changes they make during Beta will be a day one patch. You really don't understand game development.

As for Vietnam, there aren't any game breakers in it, and the wrong win/loss screen is minor and causes no real effects as they are simple video files.

I once again say, EA IS NOT DEVELOPING AND HAS NO SAY IN THE CREATION OF THIS GAME, they are simply publishing it as per the contract with DICE.

Except EA completely owns DICE and can tell them what to do if they really want to, though they mostly seem to keep their grubby hands off the game except when it comes to DLC which I think they have lots of control over.

That previous Battlefield betas only had one map and one game mode isn't an excuse for not including some bloody variety or testing more maps. It's 2011, there is no good reason or excuse for not having multiple maps in something that amounts to little more than a beta demo. That it is going to sell well, this is how they have always done it, be a good game, or that they are too big to care are not valid reasons/excuses regardless of how true they may be.

And Port Valdez still kind of sucks.

We aren't playtesting maps, that would be counter intuitive to the marketing, we're just balancing the weapons and upgrades. If you give players everything in the beta there is no reason to purchase the game.

Except for the fact that you know it disables itself on Oct 3rd or so.

I never asked for everything just a couple more maps and they can be rotated in and out. I've also seen quite a few complaints about how Metro is in need of balancing and there are a number of map glitches (rocks aren't bullet proof, areas you can fall through the map, etc).
