i think i know the reason, it would be that uber hot blonde model/actress chick that shared an apartment with the black chick.

Which you followed up by mentioning your prior disappointment with the lack of a black pilot character until now.
I was talking about wanting a "tip of the hat" to the original series, and you find that "too political"?

Yeesh.

You might find life a little more pleasant if you were a touch less sensitive, princess.

As long as they don't bring in Heather Locklear to save the ratings, a la Melrose Place...
Bah. The addition of Barbie Borg to Voyager was far worse than that!

That's actually quite accurate ;)

On the topic: I don't care about racial equality in TV shows and I wonder why anyone should. They should choose actors according to their skills, not race (of course, when they want the character to be black, they can hardly give that role to a white, but you know, what I mean).

Nowadays, I am more concerned about the falling ratings of BSG in the US. So, my US friends, START WATCHING IT OR I SWEAR I AM GOING TO TELL THE CYLONS WHERE THE US IS, YOU UNGRATEFUL TOASTERFRAKKERS!

;)
You're from the European Union.

If someone in your country makes a science fiction show that's full of nothing but white people, no big deal. If someone in Asia makes a sci-fi show with nothing but Asians, no big deal.

However, making a science fiction show in a place like North America and choosing to cast only one race is just weird (regardless of which race you choose), never mind that artificially restricting yourself to one race involves choosing actors based on something other than just their skills, which is bad for obvious reasons.

Well, I thought that in sci-fi or fantasy, we're depicting different worlds. Are there any blacks in Lord of the Rings?

I just don't think it should be an issue. Simply choose good actors and I don't care if they're black, white or asian.

heres a bit of trivia, originally Mr Spock and all of his people (vulcanians? im not a star trek fan) were supposed to have red skin, like really red, not like indians. but then the people high up decided against it, since it looked like they were black, back in the black and white TV days.

dont ask me where i read that.
