On the bright side, at least you got an answer. I'm still waiting for a response from my university.

Do you know if the labs are being used for something else? The computers in our chemistry department were shanghied for thermodynamic calculations.

They are correct in that reimaging should run undisturbed. However, i doubt this process takes all night. Further, not all PCs can be wiped clean every night. The servers resposible for storing the users' accounts will have to keep their data, for instance.
So there would be a storage place for F@H workfolders. The space they would take up is another issue, but in theory it would be feasible. I strongly suspect the maintenance duties are controlled by a script, so all it would take to make F@H work with them is add a "Stop F@H" command before starting them and a "Start F@H" once they are done.

Yay, I'm finally getting back in the groove (though still only 50% of my historical peak output)...

:D

Me too, tho i pulled a 750 pointer so might be a while!

I've just had mine running solid since i installed it :) hence that while im on one of the crappyest computers im 22nd woop! :D

Doesnt help im both Louis Rogerson, and Abaddon....

And I've got RadioactiveMonkey, Elephant, and Goldfish in there too.

And welcome back HP&H, whoever you are! :)

I seem to be back in business after PC problems in general that caused F@H and my PC to run at snails pace after about half an hour. After trying and failing to find out what was causing it I uninstalled and reinstalled Civ 4 to try and solve some problems with that when hey presto, PC problem solved. Just wish it was so easy to get Warlords running.

HP&H.. wish we knew who they are...

I managed to get F@H working when I'm running Ubuntu (which is more and more...), but it still doesn't work when I'm running windows (it's just an eternal "Attempting to get work packet" despite the fact that it's allowed absolute access to the internet by all security programs). :crazyeye:

I had that.. uninstall, delete all folders and redownload seemed to sort it aventually!

It didn't work for me, and really isn't worth to fix when I have to shut it down to play any full screen game (otherwise it will just bounce back to the desktop). Initially it worked, but only after I got help from the forums there, and gradually it just has become something that just isn't worth the effort.

In the end not having my laptop not run it in windows doesn't really bother me all that much, I've stuck F@H on 9-10 computers altogether probably with varyning success (with most where I set it up and then leave, so usually only temperarily), In the end though I've done my part. :)

My company looked at using distributed computing using an array of PC that had been withdrawn from use. I don't know the details as I was not involved in it, but it ran for a while before they decided that it was not worth it and simpler to support and maintain if they just bought a new workstation. I believe that there were issues with making the work suitable to run in such a manner as well, unless it was a large project it wasn't worth the effort.

Are you pausing F@H to when you play the games? I find that helps.
It made no difference if I even started and games or programs at all! No extra tasks appeared in the task manager, there was not sign of any extra processes running, it scanned clear for adware and viruses, but everything just slowed down after about 10 mins. I could even see it when the weekly full system virus scan was being done. I thought I was going to have to do a full windows re-install, but a Civ4 reinstall did it. Just glad it's running properly again and not just for folding.

The DailyKos team was a couple days from overtaking us!! I've pushed a couple more machines into the mix and DailyKos is more like a couple weeks away now, but if we get a few more folders we'll start pulling away from them again.
