I purchased Civilization IV online at Direct2Drive. It's a site that lets you download games after paying for them. I figured that there would be a PDF manual with it. I paid $49.95 for it. Which is the same price for the boxed version, but I can't get out to get a boxed version. Anyway if you want the manual don't buy the game from Direct2Drive.

Here is the web address; http://www.direct2drive.com/309/product/Buy-Civilization-4-Download

Since you bought the game legally, I think you're entitled to know that the Canadian version of the game did not come with a bound manual... only a .PDF document. I'm not sure if/where it's available but it does exist.

I have a PDF manual, it is included with the game, on the CD. Isn't it possible for this website to put up the PDF manual for download?

If by "this website" you mean CFC, then no, posting the PDF manual would be considered game file exchange, hence piracy and very against the rules.

If you meant the site he purchased from, then I have no comment.

If only they would. But I would guess they would be afraid of pirates getting a hold of it. I have sent for a refund, but I doubt I will get it. It's been longer then 48 hours.

that is not true... My copy came with a manual... It is 224 pages long to be exact... bought in Kelowna, BC.

Why the hell did you buy a download version for $50 anyway??????? If I'm not at least getting a huge discount I definitely want to have the box + cd + booklet!

I'm assuming the answer to this is availability, and as he said he thought there would be a .pdf.

At the link posted in original post, under "Known Issues" it tells you how to download the manual if your download didn't include it.

Edited for clarity.

I got a "real" manual from Penticton BC...so, not so sure about Canada not getting the manual.

Apologies!

I must have read a post from one unlucky Canadian who managed to find a box without a bound manual!

(But without that person's post, I never would have known that a .PDF exists.... I have to make sure that I have a copy of that .PDF on my hard drive before I go off on vacation and don't need to lug extra paperwork with me. Lucky me. My Dell Inspiron 2200 can actually handle the graphics....)

Email Firaxis and explain the situation, maybe they'll send you the pdf...
And if not, you can probably find it somewhere on the Internet, can't tell you where to look though, that would most likely be against the forum rules.

Well, Direct2Drive has the pdf manual available for download to anyone in the world (just posted today) so I don't think it will be considered against forum policy anymore.

I don't get it - I've found the PDF manual freely available on two reputable sites now and I simply do not understand why it's regarded as "piracy" - would a moderator please respond?

I think that a good portion of Canadians got the stupid PDF version thats what I got and have heard the same from many others. I have never put the disk in my computer and I doubt that I ever I hate the whole Idea oh well didnt need it anyway figured the game out on my own.

I haven't even looked at my manual. All the information you need is available in game or on this site.

If a bound manual is really your only concern, I would definitely suggest you just let it go. The Civ IV manual is even more useless than the Civ 3 manual, which was pretty bad itself. Pretty much everything in the manual can be learned through the in-game help. And none of that covers the really nitty-gritty mathematics that you'll eventually need to learn to make good strategic choices - that you're only going to find here. Heck, the Civ IV manual doesn't even have an index! 200 pages, and no index?? Total crap. About the only useful bit is the set of tables of units/wonders/etc. at the end. If you print those last 10 pages off the PDF, you've got 95%+ of the manual you'll ever actually use.

Even the game itself is well explained and rarely need the booklet and/or tech poster. It is already in the game either main menu or while playing and it comes in very handy for alot of peoples.

The game itself it pretty easy to following the guidelines and it is easy to use.
