=====
IBT - Egyptian Galleys East, 6 Barb Galleys west. I don't think Barbs will attack Egyptian galleys in the sea, but I'm hoping to get lucky... I've got a galley headed towards the Egyptian galleys.

A couple of Barb galleys sink a galley off the coast of a town I'm about to settle.
Antium MDI>Court (Next player can change)

Turn 10/650 AD
Load a Vet AC into our Army
Hmmm.. we've got six settlers in play... we might be approaching the end of the land grab...
Organize a forest chop around Hispalis
Whack a couple more Barb horses...
Corfinium founded
move a AC near Londinium... 12 Barb horses... I withdraw the AC back out of range. We've got some Legions, Pikes, and MDI on the way. I withdraw. No sense risking Elite AC...when that Legion and MDI close up with those AC, the barbs are toast.

We're ready for the next better player to take it over from 650 AD

After Action Review:

The Good: I managed to grab us some more land, and I think leading the barb galleys towards the Egyptian Galleys may have bought us some more time.

The Bad: Didn't whack as many barbs as I wanted to (but took no casualties)

The Ugly: I hate the location of Tyre, and am wondering if we should abandon it and settle the hill to the SE of the current site. Had I not been paranoid about Barbs, I would have moved the settler again...

I settled on AC for our army, because we only have 2 Legions.

I also built some units and sent them into former Arab cities in the south, to try and free up some elites to go north for the final showdown with Abu...

I hope I haven't over-built our military...we really need to watch that in Republic...

Our leader is in Mecca, but can easily be moved. I'm wondering if the culture boost from H.E. might be good near those Egyptian cities...

A few more minor notes:

There is a galley in Anjar, and a settler S of Anjar that was produced in one of our cities south of Pisae (Byzantium, I think). A boat ride to Nicropolis is a big short cut...

The next player will probably need to cycle through the new cities and adjust build queues. Since these cities are woefully corrupt, I didn't pay much attention to these initial builds.

I think I got 3 MDI down there near those Egyptian cities, just in case Cleo decides to try something cute. I think there are 2 in Basra (plus a pike) and one in Damascus (previously undefended). I believe I also put a pike in Khurasan. Elites from those cities (except *) are headed north. It couldn't hurt to stick an MDI or two in Jerusalem, for the same reason...except for some workers, most of the movement on my turns was northward.

There is a ridiculous stack of workers in the north, used to blaze a trail through the jungles/wetlands/mountains. From here we could take 6 (non-slave) workers in 2 groups of 3, and have them build roads on open terrain. One group working towards Agrippina, the other towards Londinium. Send the rest south to hack some cities out of the jungle... sorry if this reflects a bunch of 'wasted worker moves', I just thought with all the barb galleys around, we would be better served with that road.

Slinger just kindly reminded me that I'm UP. So I got it.

Can we get a screenshot?

Never mind, I should have looked at the previous page *blushes*

At the bottom of page 11, Scout has provided the latest situation.

I'll give you some from my turns as they happen.

Aw dangit... I can't believe you missed it that I'm using those way cool borders you pointed me to.

We have a leader. Is this the same leader or a different leader. Sounds like the same leader.

Have we decided on a Palace up to the north once the courthouse in Rome completes or Heroic Epic. If this had old rules, I could snag Sistine Chapel, but this is C3C

Bee-YOU-ti-ful man!!! :thumbsup:

So how many turns do you think it'll be until we achieve "Pax Romana" on this landmass? Please, somebody let me whack something other than a barb before this game ends...

@ CNO/Quivienen... take one of our yachts and find us someone to hammer on! <g>

I'm not completely convinced that a palace jump would be good at this time. Perhaps a jump SE of Rome but jumping to the NE would be jumping into undeveloped cities with little population. Perhaps when aqueducts and population is high enough it "may" be beneficial. I think a jump down SE would help more at this point. We have a lot of cities in this core with population. Byzantium perhaps.

@ Barbslinger: I'm not sure if you're worried about the courthouse I started in our non-corrupt capitol, or if you're just picking up on some "palace jumping" talk in general...

My 'general take' ... we had talked about reserving the leader we currently have for a future ("to be determined") palace rush. SB also mentioned rushing the Heroic Epic to increase the chances of more GLs... I moved our current leader south, because the HE builds culture... which I thought might be good in our 'border cities' with Egypt. (I also started moving elites north... so we might have a decent chance of getting another leader)

My thoughts: If we rush the HE, we need to press as many Elite units as we can scrounge into combat with Abu in 'the final showdown with Abu' (which will probably come on your turns, 'slinger). If we pop another leader, that leader should be reserved for a palace jump, IMO. Now - when and where we jump the palace is a whole other discussion...

...and I agree with you on one thing - it's too early to jump the palace north... but eventually, it might make sense...

I like the palace in the SE idea. I also like the HE idea. It is late so I will sleep on it and finish during lunch.

Slinger, hopefully I can have the game to you by noon our time.

Pre-flight – 650 AD – Well Cleo has these three cities on our continent. Can we put the cultural squeeze on them… no she’s a cultural powerhouse. Abe’s even worse.

We can get Theology from Abe for Ivory, 36G & WM. Out current science rate is going to cost us 380G over then next five turns. We can sell ivory to Abe for 4gpt, 14G & TM. So not factoring in the time value of money, the Ivory is worth 94G & TM. Abe values his TM at 69G. So our Ivory is worth 163G. Our WM is worth TM & 14G & 2gpt or 123G. Just in case no one has figured it out. All this means that Abe knows Navigation. :eek: That’s at least five techs behind.

Cleo will take 12gpt and all our cash (189G) for Theology. We can’t even get them to talk about Invention or Chivalry. We need to find Hiawatha, Shaka, and Tokugawa very soon.

Eburacum is right next to Mt Vesuvius. You know that city is going to be nailed when the volcano erupts. We should have built it one tile NW.

Scout – you’re right. Tyrus should have been built two NE to grab the whale and the iron. C’est la vie.

Change Tyrus, Cyrene, and Corfinium from spears to workers.

Pull the trigger on the Theology trade with Abe.

Invention is next… due in 7. Science is at 40%, lux goes down to 20%, hire a few scientists, budget is at -12gpt.

Stop a few workers from planting forests on grassland.

IBT – Veii: Pike=> worker

1. 660 AD - Load the last AC into our army. Oh! We have a leader! What were we going to do with him? Back to the thread. After sleeping on it I decide that the Heroic Epic is a good idea. I still need an army victory. There are still a ton of barbs up north! Move some AC in range of them. The IBT will be interesting. There are two turns left on our peace treaty with Abu.

Hire two more scientists to keep cities from rioting. I really like these new specialists. The scientist being able to contribute three beakers is very nice.

IBT - Only two barb horse attack our AC. Both die a horrible death.
Neopolis: Library=> Duct (25 turns)
Pisae: pike=> court (12) why can’t we build legions? Oh! They are replaced by MDI. We didn’t use our UU very much did we?
Ravenna: Pike=>temple(12) we have some happy problems there even with a market.
Nicopolis: worker=> worker (10)

2. 670 AD – Switch Basra from a library to a galley. Need to try more suicide galleys to get across to the other continent. Plus I’ll build the HE there as soon as we have an army victory.

Whack some barbs.

IBT – I HATE the RNG! A 2 hp barb horse kills a 6 hp AC. The Barb doesn’t even get scratched! :mad:
Mecca: Pike=> MDI (5)
Viroconium: Pike=> temple(10)
Veii: worker=> MDI (7)
Basra: Galley=> wealth (until we build the HE)
Syracuse riots. &^%#@$ Orangemen! Hire a scientist.
Tarentum: worker=> worker (10)

3. 680 AD – More barb whacking.

IBT – Cumae: NDI=> Treb(3)
Pompeii: Library=> temple(12)
Palmyra: court=> market(15)
Palace gets a second story.

4. 690 AD - :hammer: barbs Abe will finally talk to us about buying Invention. We’re only three turns away and he wants an arm and a leg.

IBT – We lose our east coast shuttle galley to a barb. Good thing I unloaded the settler.
Syracuse: market=> barracks
Suicide galley sinks.

5. 700 AD – Science drops 10%.

IBT – Egypt drops off a settler pair NE of Baghdad.
Kill about six attacking barbs.
Damascus: barracks=> market (50)
American’s start Magellan’s

6. 710 AD – Our AC Army kills two barbs. Change Basra over to HE and have Maximus hurry the build.

Setting up to attack Abu now, while clearing out barbs.

Hire a scientist, slider down 10%.

IBT – Abu sends two settler pairs our way.
Egyptians build Buto northeast of Baghdad.
Invention comes in. Select Printing Press next.
Rome: court=> temple(6)
Mecca: MDI=>MDI (4)
Cumae: Treb=> Treb (3)
Basra: HE=> Court (80)
Byzantium: Temple=> Treb (4)

7. 720 AD – Declare war on Abu the stingy. Attack a settler pair and

Bede_01_-_720_AD_leader.jpg

Move the leader to the rear, :hammer: the other settler pair.

What shall we do with this leader? Army? Palace Jump?

My $0.02... if Abu had some more cities to attack, we could probably count on getting another leader... If we build an army, it'll sit empty for a while... and we don't really need another army to secure this continent, and we've got a "bird in hand" for a future palace jump.

OTOH, if we build an army, and then get another and build an army (and can somehow get yet another MGL) we would have 3 "armies" in the field, and could use Pentagon as a pre-build for something...

My lean is toward the "bird in hand" approach. The RNG has been kind to us on leaders so far...

7. 720 AD (con’t) - Another suicide run with a galley. Where’s the Admiral when I need her?

Set science to 30% - PP due in 8. Those scientists are nice.

Of course our former Arab cities start being sad and we have to hire some more scientists.

Cleo probably need to be kicked off our continent. Start positioning units to attack Egypt. Marc Antony will be sad.

IBT – Antium: Court=> Cathedral (15)
Cyrene: worker=>market (100)
American’s build Bach’s

8. 730 AD – Our galley survives!! Thank you Admiral! Start up the American east coast.

IBT – Lincoln asks us to leave – Yeah sure.
A barb horse promotes a MDI
Anjar: Library=> Galley (15)
Kufah: Library=> Market (50)
Khurasan riots. I am not playing well today. That is the second city I missed in the F1 check. :wallbash:
Hispalis: Market=> Library (16)
Tyrus: worker=> court (80)

9. 740 AD – Get 25G from the last barb camp on our continent. The barbarian threat is now eliminated.

Germanicus creates an army.

Leader fishing at Aden:
Bede_01_-_740_AD_Leader.jpg

You gotta love the HE. We're now two for two on elite victories.

I’m going to stop there and let Slinger play my last turn (I think I owe him a couple anyway.)

After Action Report – There are four settlers in the great white north. Slinger can decide where they should settle.

We can wipe out Abu any time now. We also can start in on Cleo.

Save: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/Bede_01,_740_AD.SAV

I'll fill out the new lands and I think I'll move that Tyrus city. Looking at the lands up there with the desert I'm thinking it does not look good at all for a place with all the desert and mountains. SPHC some day I'm thinking.
Probably bust out some galleys for searching. It looks like the barb threat should be nearly gone at the end of my turns and it will be suicide time heading east from Arabia. Hope those Abu towns stay at size 2 until capture.

I guess I owe the team 30 shields and 2 pop... need a 'falling on my sword' smiley for Tyrus... gawd that was a huge :smoke: move on my part...

Go get 'em Barbslinger. Abu the soon-to-be-of-another-world awaits.

I have a strong suspicion that the suicide galley that Bugsy got over there is going to be the one that opens the floodgates with respect to contacts. Abe simply must be trading with someone besides Cleo to be as far ahead as he is. I'm betting that there is only one other major landmass in this game, and all of the other AI are on it, and our one galley can eventually meet them all. (But by all means, continue with suicide galley runs...)

Moving Tyrus is a good idea. I'd put it 2 NE to get the whale. I'd also put a city on the very northern most tile, by the fish and the cow. Or maybe where that yellow lined AC is standing.

Nothing grabs that cow by Londinium at the moment. Maybe plant a few cities on the edge of the desert so that they are part desert and part grassland.
