Bede01:Funny thing happened...

@ Barbslinger: Just use the "Upload File" link and use the "Insert Image" button to put the URLs between "IMG" links like we did before the upgrade. That's the only way I've found to make the inline images behave properly. I know they want us to use the "attachments" thing, but I've been unable to make that work well for images.

I used the old
coding.

I think OCN will hurt us. We'll need to figure it out. When I played Epic 40, I went communist with a 14 city limit imposed by the variant and communism kicked butt. I think the SPHQ raises that a bit.

Gentlemen,
OCN with Communism, the FP and SPHQ is a huge number. Based on axelrod's calculations, on this map at Emperor with both FP and SPHQ with a Commercial trait it is 148. With the proper use of specialists you can actually have upwards of 20 cities with 0 or only 1 gpt lost to corruption and with CE's you can achieve the same thing for shield waste.

"kicked butt" doesn't describe it.

Woooo Hoooo. We are going to kick some major tail.
I'm even starting to think I would like to dominate a little bit now. We don't have 148 cities. ABE, can you hear me?

I haven't had a chance to try out Communism in Conquests yet. Sounds like fun! Hehe

Got it.

No one left me any Japanese to smite *sniff*

I think this'll just be a boring building turn.

1250 AD (IT) --

Looks good. *enter*

1255 AD (1) --

We get a Palace expansion. Some pretty trees get planted.

The Americans demand Dyes. We tell them to stuff it, and surprisingly, they do. I guess Japan's fall from grace has the Iroquois and Americans kinda scared.

Pisae: Cavalry --> Cavalry
Hippo Regius: Worker --> Worker
Gordion: Worker --> Courthouse
Aden: Temple --> Courthouse
Cyrene: Harbor --> Courthouse
All the Courthouse builds are in preparation for the big switch to Communism.

The continental railroad connecting Trapezus in the north all the way to Syracuse in the south completes near Artaxata on the isthmus.

I'm not sure which way the Galleon with the Army and Leader is headed, but I'm going to guess that it was going home.

Looking at diplomacy, America is valuing Electricity far lower than they should be. I think they're about to discover it. I decide that trading it around won't be a problem.

To Iroquois for Nationalism, Democracy, WM, 14 gold.
To Egypt for Furs, WM, Free Artistry and Music Theory (they come free)
I decide not to trade it to America.

America and the Iroquois have Fascism, Communism and Industrialization. Egypt has only Fascism.

1260 AD (2) --

Just as I predicted, America has Electricity this turn. good thing I sold it around when I did.

Mecca: Cannon --> Courthouse
Tarentum: Aqueduct --> Library

We are severely lacking in infrastructure. Communism will allow us plenty of time to build up infrastructure, but we still need to hop to.

LOTS of Worker movement.

1265 AD (3) --

Antium: Cavalry --> Bank
Cumae: Cavalry --> Bank

Fortify Trajan, our new leader, in Rome. He will probably rush the SPHQ in Byzantium once we enter Communism (fitting for Rome to have a secondary Palace in Byzantium, plus it's our biggest shield city).

1270 AD (4) --

Medicine --> Scientific Method.

Viroconium: University --> Cathedral
Syracuse: Cannon --> University
Caesaraugusta: Library --> Cannon
Aurelianorum: Cannon --> Bank

And I'm going to have to leave off here and go to bed. I'll continue tomorrow evening.

Who ever mentioned Byzantium? I thought the SPHC was going in the NE lands? Does it matter where it goes in communism? Is that what I'm thinking wrong?

Location is far less important than having it, as distance corruption does not apply in Commie government, IIRC. It's best to put it in the next most productive town after the FP city as with the proper set-up the city is corruption free. The SPHQ biggest benefit is the boost it gives OCN. In the Cultured Commie game referred to earlier the SPHQ went right next to the capitol.

Continuing:

1270 AD (4, cont'd.) --

Lots of Worker movement. Not much else.

1275 AD (5) --

Veii: Cavalry --> Courthouse
Khurasan: Marketplace --> Library

Again, just a lot of Worker movement. These turns are BORING.

1280 AD (6) --

Pompeii: Cavalry --> Courthouse
Pisae: Cavalry --> Courthouse
Hispalis: Library --> Courthouse

Lalala. Workers continue building our rail net.

1285 AD (7) --

Edo: Worker --> Worker
Ravenna: Library --> University
Palmyra: University --> Cavalry

Science lowered a notch to increase income.

1290 AD (8) --

Scientific Method --> Replaceable Parts (due in 4)

Rome switches to the ToE, due in 9.

Mecca: Courthouse --> Cathedral
Nicomedia: Aqueduct --> Cannon

Dial up the AIs. The Iroquois give us Communism (:)), 30 gpt and their WM for Medicine. They give the best offer. America then gives 26 gpt and 73 gold for Medicine. America would give Industrialization and 8 gpt for Scientific Method, and the Iroquois would give only Industrialization. Both America and the Iroquois just acquired Replaceable Parts, so I change research to Sanitation to have trade bait.

1295 AD (9) --

Damascus: Aqueduct --> Library

huh? What? Oh, look! More Workers to move! How fun!

Rush Libraries in Sirmium and Agrippina for the culture.

1300 AD (10) --

America tells us to leave their territory. Didn't know we were in it...

Caesaraugusta: Cannon --> Cannon
Tarentum: Library --> Courthouse
Agrippina: Library --> Courthouse
Sirmium: Library --> Courthouse

I'm leaving it here, with the Workers all unmoved. Have fun *twitch*! (Note to team -- Cuivienen hates moving Workers around.)

>>SAVE<<

We should revolt to Communism as soon as the ToE finishes in 6 turns. Then our shiny new Courthouses will be effective in reducing corrutpion empire-wide and we can build infrastructure and prepare for an invasion of America, Egypt or the Iroquois.

Hey, set up right worker turns are fun!! Just push the button and all kinds of neat things happen!

Got it.

1300
Swap Cathedral at Mecca to police station, don't need the happy faces yet. Mecca is long food, needs a plains mined to get to 24fpt and 20spt. Rush the cop shop.
There is a lot of terrain that needs trimming and rails.
Start concentrating forces for assault on America.
Rome is long food and needs all its mountains mined and railed
We have an obsolete military, about 20% of the total force!
Replace scientists with cops or tax collectors to reduce corrupted gold and waste.
Rush a settler out of Sirmium to claim that last place n the coast.

Diplomatically we seem to have a reputation problem because of something we did to the Zulu!
Did we have some kind of gpt deal going before they disappeared?

Looks like the only way to trade our goods and our technology will be at the point of a gun, of which we do not have enough!

The towns need management to take full advantage of the cops and tax collectors.

T1 1305
Moving workers into gangs of native and slave.
With ToE due in 4 trade Scientific Method out to Iroquis for Industrialization.
Haul Cleopatra to the Peace table and trade her dyes for 47g+12gpt
Trade world Map to Hiawatha for WM and 12g
Trade WM to Abe for WM and 4g
Trade WM to Cleopatra for 1gpt
Abe is right on top of Scientific Method so it's only worth 10g to him.

Hiawatha starts ToE. americans start ToE

T2 1310
Haul Abe to the peace table and trade Sanitation for Peace, Replaceable Parts and 25g+2gpt.
Hiawtha won't offer anything decent for Sanitation
And it looks like we have all the rubber in the world
So haul Hiawatha to the Peace table and trade him Rubber for Espionage and Peace

T3 1320
Working the land
Built a couple of towns in old Japan

Pic
T4 1325
Start Hoover in Byzantium.
Wake up Trajan and rush the MilAcad in Rome. Dumb!
Oh, yeah, finish ToE

T5 1330
Drop off another settler in old Japan

T6 1335
Privateer sinks a galleon on its way to Edo
Start organizing the cavalry in Rdo for assaullt on hte tip of America

Lose a lux deal and Rome explodes.
Hire governors to avoid immediate problems elsewhere

T7 1340
Fire the governors and reset the cities. Raise lux to 10%
Cleo wants spices, ivory and 400g+10gpt for her thin wine. Pass and pay cash in one turn

T8 1345
Upgrade artillery

Pay spices, ivory and 600 cash for cheap wine and reduce lux to 0

Hiawatha wants an MPP and RoP. Sell him a map instead.

Egyptians start universal Suffrage

Another deal expires and we lose furs.

T9 1350
Rush a few more buildings. Pay a lot of money for luxes to Hiawatha and Cleo and still have to raise taxes to 10%

We are nowhere ready for a government switch. Hoover is due in 10 at Byzantium and there are still factories, courthouses and cop shops to be built, as well as finishing the rail net and setting up the terrain for maximum productivity in the new government. That generally means mines and rails on any ground that tilts and irrigation wherever it is flat, as once we enter Communism population is truly power. I have violated that rule in the current core towns as I wanted to maximise productivity until factories, cop shops and hospitals are built. I would not let the towns grow past pop12 until the anarchy is over however as we risk starvation when food output goes back to despotism levels.

The deals with Abe have 13 turns to go, so sorry scout,, you wonlt have an opporunity to hone your hammering skills. As usual you will have the opportunity to practice labor force management and troop training so that Bugsy and 'slinger can gallop out and change the face of the world, again.

Abe lacks rubber and we seem to have all of it though there may be some in Cleo's little corner.

The little cock-up in our relationship with the Zulu means that our credit for hard goods is no good, nor will the other nations pay cash for per turn goods or resources, unless you threaten them with spanking.

As for the SPHQ, it is only 200 shields and once Hoover is done and a factory rushed in Byzantium, we should be over 50 spt there. You can use the IA as a prebuild for 3 turns, pull the trigger on the revolution, then finsh the SPHQ immediately after the regime change. The other current core cities should already have courthouse and police stations before the revolution. Keep spending cash to rush needed buildings as once we are Commie it's kill people for buildings and that's a really bad idea, unless of course they are Americans.

Our cultural profile looks a lot like Ally McBeal while America's looks like Tugboat Annie (ought to have a "wide load sign") so be prepared for "cleansing" during the American war.

Science has been shut off during this round as I wanted the cash to rush buildings and labor and settlers. I don't see any reason to turn it up until after the governemtn change. We hold the lead so far. The only problem I'm foreseeing is that we will have to pay tech for tech, or extort them by threatening war, if we want to use credit. It weould be nice to know where the oil is, Given that we have all the rubber, and some nice tundra there should be oil under that ice, but it may be that we will have to go take it from somebody....

Lastly, I don't know what I was smoking when I used Trajan to build the Italian West Point....but as somebody pointed out armies make nice pre-huilds for spaceship parts.

Oops, when I want to alt-tab out I somehow hit next turn, no units have been moved...but I robbed scout of the opportunity to micromanage all the cities...

Order of go:
barbslinger-get ready to kill a few Amerikans
Cuivienen-you'll get your war
Bede-drove spikes and now at rest
scoutsout-UPThe Builder, again
Sir Bugsy-On-deck anarchist

BTW, scout, on the accidental interturn Abe sailed his fleet onto the Japanese coast. I would expect a sneak attack...

Checked the saves back to when I got it in 1150 and there were no Zulu at that point.

Yeah, looks like Shaka started his whirl to destruction back about 820 when he joined the Iro against Abe, then Japan joined in against Shaka in 1090 just before we dropped the hammer on Japan. Shaka went down in 1140 just after we re-upped an ivory for gpt deal. Who'd a thunk it?

Peace table trade negotiations are fun!!!
:smug: :aargh: :evil: :devil2: :nya:

"Got it." Lots of peace and building. Do you guys think the appropriate time to revolt will come during my turns, or should I let Bugsy make that call?

Gimme 5 turns to figure this world out, because 'slinger played again.

I had forgotten how pleasant this little piano score is in the industrial age... at least I get to listen to something relaxing while in 'builder mode'.

Welp, I don't get a pre-flight check, but who says I can't micromanage? :D

City Check:
MM a citizen from irrigated grass to irrigated plains nets only 1 shield, but shaves a turn off Hoover.

Fiddled with some specialists in Brundisium, and the game crashed. Twice.

Re-boot and the thing crashed on me in F1. But something is amiss here... I could swear Bede said he hired a bunch of cops in a bunch of our towns, and all I see are unhappy Roman citizens. Hmmm.... an hypothesis.

Re-boot, reload the game, and load the city view I was looking at when the thing first crashed: Brundisium. Lo and behold, I notice something I didn't see before. Do a screen dump to show my friends, I may have a bug to report.

I hope I saved the originals when I installed those "smileys"...

Do you have this popheads.pcx in this folder. Open yours and see if construction guys are in there. I had the same problem before. You have the PTW or CIVIII popheads that does not have construction or police icons in it.
