Bede01:Funny thing happened...

Hopefully we can get this game rolling again. It looks like a settling, working, legion building festival. Are we going to try and beeline to monarchy so hopefully try and have our GA not in depotism?

My $0.02: we might want to think about Republic... if we research writing and decide we need galleys, it will be easy enough to switch to Map Making... I don't really like the fact that we haven't met any other AI at this stage... the lands to the south and east don't seem to hold anything but barbs, and I'd be surprised if there was much more land to the north. This is a continents map, so there should be at least one other landmass...

I would be singing a different tune if we had met at least one other AI civ at this point...

Wait a second... scratch much of that... we can build Curraughs with Alphabet... though it will probably take several suicide curraughs, even if we do find a strait somewhere....

Edit - I'm just 'thinking out loud'

2850
Found Veii. Start granary.

2710
Arabs haven't busted barb camp yet, so no deal for Alphabet.
Arabs also have Mysticism now.

2630
As writ
Haven't sent any warriors to explore south as three barbs are hanging about the Wolf Peaks.

No deal for Alphabet

2470
Abu now has Masonry

2350
Abu has pillaged barb camp
Do the Alphabet for Bronze + 25g deal

2270
As writ
Patzinal barbs on the move finally, chasing after Abu's boys.

2230-1910
Not much to report
Antium founded 1 turn later. Worker improving Veii rather than Rome.
Barbarians came out the south and reinforced the Pazinal who are watching from the Wolf Peaks.

1910-1550
Took a different path.

No exploring to the south as Arabs stayed in the north and west Barbarians of different types kept showing up around Rome and I didn't want to risk being pillaged with all the gold we'd accumulated. Kept two in garrison and sent two to dance with the Arabs. Put more worker turns into developing Veii instead of Rome. Rome now has a barracks and by the time Math comes in will have at least 176 shields in the box towards the SoZ, so should be able to finish SoZ in 3 or less. Now as long as there isn't a Shaka who knows how to count in the jungle with elephants.

Veii is set to grow in 3 and equip a settler in 6 at pop4. Settler factory consultants will want to adjust to get optimum production. The 1spt lost to corruption is definitely slowing things down.

Arab warrior and settler pair are blockaded N of Mecca.

If we manage the SoZ won't need Legions to knock a hole in the Arabs. Could probably do it with AC and archers if we wanted to, while beelining to Republic and settling the south. Be nice if we could be in Republic circa 500BC.

Already have writing, running best reasonable pace to match pre-build at Rome with learning Maths for SoZ. I'm betting that the AI are to the NE behind the jungle and are running into barb trouble trying to get across the choke. The Arabs have been sending troops that way but none have returned. Probably time for a "confirm or deny" expedition.

Scout is up. If he can play by Saturday afternoon, I'll have it back to slinger by Sunday evening.

I'm sorry I missed all that chaos caused by my Conquests -- I've figured what went worng in my own files. At one point, I accidentally gifted Alphabet to the Arabs rather than trade it for BW, so I chose to reload the save from an Autosave -- which took my low-corruption .biq and used it as a template, removing (virtually) all corruption from the game. Being rather annoyed by this turn of events, I figured that I should reinstall the game entirely -- which I have done and will cause no more problems in any SGs. Sorry about that, folks!

(And, for the future, just load an non-corrupt save from an Autosave on a .biq with corruption and corruption will be back in the game. Odd feature.)

Sorry again! *Goes to post apology in Sling2, also*

Purrrrfect :folding hands in front of face:

Thank god it was easy for you to figure out Cuivienen. We're ready to rock!

No problem, Cuivienen.

Didn't slow us down any.

Glad you can continue.

"Got it."

Research question:

I can buy Myst from Abu for 260g+5gpt, or a straigh-up trade for Math. Researching it at 10% gets it in 50, researching at 40% gets it in 16.

What's the consensus of the Team? I don't want to give up math on the Chance that Abu has an Ivory stashed away somewhere...

What's your pleasure?

...nevermind the Ivory concern with Abu... I just wasted 3 shields building SoZ...

%^&&%$#((!!!!!!!:saiyan:  :spank: Talk about your lousy planning!!! THREE SHIELDS!!

Talk about timing something perfectly. :goodjob: Bede and Scout

:rotfl:

Never mind...

Queries and admonition:

If he knows it, don't research it.

Start on Philo at 100% if it shortens the research time and we have the gold.

What's the build time on the SoZ?

Can we get cash from Abu for math? Empty his treasury plus gpt?

Diplo screen under lux tab should show if Abu has ivory hooked up.

Good turns. I've got it. Dispatches by Saturday evening at the latest.

I don't know if this is "normal" barbarian activity at this level or not... I do know that barbs get a combat 'bonus' at this level, so I was a little reluctant to engage the barbs. I would have preferred to build an archer instead of a spear in Rome, but I think we should probably consider escorting settlers with spears while there are packs of 3 and 5 barbs wandering outside Rome.

I apologize for letting Antium slip into disorder... hopefully I made up for that by getting SoZ a turn earlier with the science slider... I also fumbled one worker move... I'm workin' on it...

We might be able to farm some elite units with a little barb hunting here and there...

I sent one warrior north to do some scouting, leaving Neopolis undefended for the moment... that's a bit of a risk... but... nothing ventured, nothing gained...

:goodjob:
Looks like friend Abu is hastening towards monarchy.

Pericles: Kings are earth's gods; in vice their law's their will.

and

ROSENCRANTZ: Never alone
did the king sigh, but with a general groan

and finally:

KING RICHARD: What must the king do now? Must he submit?
The king shall do it: must he be depos'd?
The king shall be contented: must he lose
The name of king? A God's name, let it go.
I'll give my jewels for a set of beads,
My gorgeous palace for a hermitage,
My gay apparel for an almsman's gown,
My figur'd goblets for a dish of wood,
My sceptre for a palmer's walking staff,
My subjects for a pair of carved saints,
And my large kingdom for a little grave,
A little little grave, an obscure grave;
Or I'll be buried in the king's highway,
Some way of common trade, where subjects' feet
May hourly trample on their sovereign's head;
For on my heart they tread now whilst I live,
And buried once, why not upon my head?

Crowding Abu against his capital is going to tork him off and I think our ony weapon is warriors Hopefully he does not get antsy for the next 11 turns or his archer rush will crush us. If you can swing a trade for WC I would. Then we can get first shot at his archers. I'd like a little insurance in case he decides to take our towns. If he is out of living space to the west he will be mad.

I see we are building a warrior in Antium with no rax.

Good luck Bugs! Looking forward to getting this game on its feet.
