Bede01:Funny thing happened...

By the time your get the game Slinger, you should have four Ancient Cavs and several other units which you will be able to create some hate and discontent with our friend Abu. :mwaha:

@ Barbslinger: I'm pretty sure we've got WC already... we don't have The Wheel, but when I last left the trade screen the only Tech Abu was up on us was Polytheism...

We could swap the build in Rome to a unit or three... Rome isn't growing now, because I set it to work some forests for the wonder build... (and to keep growth down so we wouldn't have a bunch of rioting.... In 6 more turns we could build 2 archers and 2 spears in Rome, and we should have our first AC in another turn or two. Pile those up in Cumae, and we could probably skirmish with Abu while we build more units in earnest...

We could also alternate settler production with Spears or Archers in Antium to get some better units...

I was thinking we didn't have WC for some reason. If we have it I am not worried at all. In fact, next time Abu tries to cross our lands with a settler, hopefully 2, give him the boot. 2-3 AC's and and an archer or two will shut him up + slaves. What would Rome be without slaves!

A passing thought... with SoZ in Rome, doesn't that open up the possibility of a wonder triggered GA?

It is military and Rel. We are Mil + Com. The Glight, Collossus and Magellans would put us over but I think the legions will do it for us.

You sound like a man that's ready to make Abu's subjects dance at the ends of arrows and swords and other things with sharp pointy ends...

As long as he don't get uppity thinking he's the man everything will be alright. Settling all that land is far more important than his one severed head. We have to gear up to get all the severed heads.

Knowing Abu, I think we will be eliminating him from the world before Knights. We shall see.

Unless you can engineer a 300 turn MPP/ROP GPT for Ivory deal before Barbslinger gets ahold of this game, methinks you're right! :D

On a totally unrelated note, since this is C3C we can name our units, right? I think we oughta give our little legionnaires some snazzy Roman names... like maybe:

Horatius (of course)
Scipio (one of my favs)
Lartius (Horatius' right hand)
Herminius (Horatius' leftenant)

What sayeth the Senate?

We're gonna need more names than that. Like our Shermans war game if one participant desires, as I do, to name sities or units it adds flavor to the game. It will be one to be remembered. I think the first legionaires should be derivitives of our names though and then the real battleforce Roman names. If we make it through battle, and/or generate a leader he gets Army privildges, no matter what it takes to transport. My now drunken $.02. I was at the bar winning against Laker fans. $80. Barely covered the the bar tab though. Tonight I continue my diety game.

Name away.

Just gotta build some first and we don't know how to forge iron do we?

Awesome turns, Sir Bugsy! :hammer:

I'm tempted to write up another one of my long winded little monologues, but my wife's cooking up some steaks and I'll have to read your logs later... by my count you've extended Rome's influence by 6 cities, gotten us a MGL, and left Barbslinger with plenty of 'sharp pointy things' and something to point them at...

It looks like about half (or more) of the remaining Arab cities will auto-raze. Can we resettle the Arab lands with our 3 granary cities (Rome, Antium, Veii) without sapping our S, SE, and northward expansion? How corrupt is Cumae? Can we squeeze a settler or two out of there?

Maybe I'm missing something, but what did we do with the MGL? Did we rush the FP in Mecca? Or did we make an Army and not fill it? I don't see an Army on the screenshot.

@ Cuivienen - I couldn't resist - I downloaded the save and took a look. Our GL (Trajan) is still available, and presently in Veii. I don't know if SB was thinking of reserving him for a well-placed FP or opening it up to discussion.

I went through a couple of the F-keys and looked at some other things. The Demographics page tells us we're not doing too badly in some areas, but we're near the bottom of the heap in per-capita income.

From F10, other AI civs include Egypt, America, England, Zulu, Japan, and Iroquois. Since we've played quite a few turns in this game already, I believe it's a safe bet that we would have met a scout by now if any of the expansionist civs were on this landmass with us... in spite of the level of barb activity, I would think we would have seen something by now. It might be possible that Egypt or Japan are somewhere to be found...

Though I imagine the Great Wall was part of a wonder cascade triggered by the Pyramids, I also suspect England is on another landmass with at least 2 other AI civs... and they've been up to some serious tech trading. The Oracle is built, and I suspect somebody is getting close to Monarchy. With the Colossus built, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Great Lighthouse completed soon.

I know I'm not an Emperor level player, but IMO, we need Map Making and Iron Working soon, and we need to consider self-researching for those techs if we don't meet somebody rather soon...

Bede01- Romans – 550BC 10 turns to play

Pre-turn – Check around and see we are indeed on a settler push and in the middle of pushing Abu off the continent. We still only know Abu and his time is short for this world. Consulted the dotmaps and if I could enlist Abu’s help of growing to 2 pop before conquering his tows we look to do quite a bit of expansion here. Trajan in Veii reminds to adjust the sliders to avoid a riot while getting the settler from there this turn. We have an exploring warrior way up north that is still looking. Najaran looks to be autorazed next turn. Neapolis is building a rax but I don’t see much shield potential from it anytime soon so in the interest of exploration I’m swapping to curraugh at a loss of 2 shields. Looks like we are trying to expedite our way to Republic so I’ll continue that. Sure would like to meet a few folk these turns. I’m also swapping Rome to an archer to get at some of those barbs and open up our southern lands for settlers. Change Antium around to get settler and growth in 4. Rome will build an archer this turn and then build some warriors for MP’ing new cities.

IT – CoL is in and it’s 40 to Republic, for now. Rome – Archer and AC > Warrior, Veii – Settler > Settler, Neapolis – Currag > Same, Pisae – Wkr > Wkr.

530BC – We really need some luxuries. I stick an archer MP into Antium to get research up enough to get Repub in 34. It only takes one of the 2 archers to autoraze Najaran. AC’ s begin to move on Kufah which is now pop2.

IT – Our southern warrior near a bunch of barbs is killed. Egypt completes MoM. Rome – Warriot > Warrior.

[2] 510BC – Prior to attacking Kufar with an elite I make Trajan into an Army we fill later. I attack and Hadrian appears. Kufah is taken with a vet AC and promotes to elite. Everyone sits in Kufah until healed. Moving boys around. Killed a barb horse on a mountain but he nearly beat the AC. Damn barbs.

IT – Rome – Warrior > Warrior.

[3] 490BC – Our exploring warrior finds more ivory? Just what we need.

IT – Antium – Settler > Settler. Rome – Warrior > Spear.

[4] 470BC – Our intrepid northern scout walks into a 26 barb horse ambush. He’ll be buying it at the IT. Shoot. I just saw some spices way up in the jungle. We should get to them soon.

IT – they didn’t attack. These must be the peaceful barbarians I have heard about.

[5] 450BC – I high tail it out of there. Damascus grows so.. we take it along with 2 slaves. I’ll wait for Arabia’s other towns to grow too. Finally got some guys in place to get roading to our East. I also have 2 settlers putting down in a couple turns to our south.

IT- Rome – Spear+AC > Spear, Ravenna – Rax > Wkr, Pompeii – Curraugh for the south > Another.

[6] 430BC – Moving guys around and, man, are there lots of barbs. Trying to evac the northern warrior.

IT – A few builds including a settler. I forgot to write them down.

[7] 410BC – Found Viro near cow in the south. I was going to found the other city but decided to head to where bugs dotted a high shield city. Also located some spices nearby On the East coast. Next settler goes there.

IT – Rome – Archer > Spear. Pisae – Worker > Spear.

[8] 390BC – Roading away. Also sent 2 workers from a northern completed road towards the Spices. We need to get to those.

IT – Our AC near the spices defends nicely and goes elite.

[9] 370BC – Looks like our north scout made his getaway. Found Byzantium in a nice spot. Hit a barb camp for 25g.

IT – Our 2 spears in Pisae have some trouble with 12 barb horses but win out losing a spear and taking the other to a 2/5 elite.

[10] 350BC – Not much. I fortified Hadrian in Veii and I have a group of workers just arrived on Rome mountain to put road across to Pisae and then continue to Spices in the East. Took out another barb camp in the east. A jungle searching archer has found another spice. We look like we are going to be huge. Lots of land and no Abu to contend with.

I have another settler ready to plant in ex Abu lands. We could put an FP where I indicated with Hadrian. In fact, if the team favors that would even slide that settler over to get the FP up and running now and then another leader may pop when we take out Abu. Plus the corruption will fall and our econ will improve.

When Abu is down to one city, I think it will be time for some pointly stick research.

Great job Slinger! Wasn't that fun?! These ACs rock!

Can we rush an FP with a MGL now? I didn't think the military type of leader can rush wonders, great or small.

Maybe build the FP by hand in Rome or Veii and then jump the palace.

IIRC, MGL can do small wonders and city improvements, so FP should work.

Western spot is nice.

Now that Abu has his manners, Arabia makes a nice client state.
