Beefjack interview (Morocco hinted?)

Failing to see the link between Morocco and both Arabia and the Ottomans... They are all quite distinct, no??

They differ more than Germany, Netherlands and England differ with each other. Each have a real distict ethnicity related to the other.

they've all controlled the lands of morocco at some point, that's the link

Odd that they would be called the Moroccans. Why not just call them the Berbers? You don't see the Indians and Chinese being broken down into subgroups.

It's about time the Berbers/Moors/Moroccans are in and aren't lumped with Arabia.

Assuming this is true, that is.

Check this video out. At around the 38:00 minute mark, they talk about Morocco's gold dinars. Tell me that doesn't plant the seeds for a faith/trade combo UA!
It's funny to imagine him as a Civilization talent scout seeking out new additions. He just lights up when he says "so it was a trading powerhouse!"

Morocco for BNW

Morocco is probably more well known then the term Berber. We also don't know if it's a Pan-Berber civ or just historical Morocco.
I suspect it's going to be Morocco rather then Berbers and they'll probably have a male leader fitting for the Scramble for Africa scenario.

They don't necessarily need a male leader from the time of the Scramble for Africa scenario, though - Shaka died before the Europeans began their real incursions into Africa.

That aside, if the civ is indeed focused more on Morocco instead of being a pan-Berber civ, a possible leader might be Ismail ibn Sharif, one of the greater of the early modern leaders of Morocco. They might also be looking for an Almohad or Almoravid leader.

Is there a resource which would scream Morocco?

"Scream"? Not really. But go to about 50 minutes into that video I posted.

The Alaouite dynasty that moved in during the 16th century (and still rule today) considered themselves Arabs, not African Berbers, claiming direct lineage to Muhammad. But it's also true that Morocco has a history that well predates their rule.

^ Irinakhoiw, which is a Huron word for Black Snakes. The French changed the ending to ois because they are French and that's what they do.

Imagine if this painting was adapted for her leaderhead, just like that "sexy" painting of Theodora was adapted for hers.

Except the Theodora painting is a famous painting of her (while a google search does not turn up that other one for quite awhile). Believe it or not, they don't go for female leaders solely because of sex appeal. And certainly none of the leaders have been naked so far.

Anyway, she fought against the Arab invasion. I suspect they'll pick a Muslim Moroccan instead.

Having a woman lead Morocco during the SfA would be odd and not really fitting. For that reason they'd go with a male leader, it doesn't matter from which era, who was either present for the Scramble or can be renamed to a leader of the 19th century.

Devs do not care who leads the nations in any of their scenario

In Mongolian Scenario, Gandhi was the leader (he was actually named, Gandhi)

In The Renaissance scenario, I don't think any of the leaders except Francis (who was Napoleon anyways) were changed in their names (except Askia, Suleiman and Harun, but those 3 were actually new civs)

Well Arabia is the Civ name in the game (hence Arabs of Arabia). When I think of Arabia I think of the Arabian Peninsula. Perhaps it would be better if Devs would consider incorporating adjacent territories/cities with Arabia such as what we now call the UAE, Oman, Yemen rather than territories off the Atlantic Ocean and part of the Mediterranean. And in the same vein indeed have more of a pan-Berber civ that is distinctly Mediterranean so that neighboring territories have adequate inclusion (thinking of Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria). It doesn't have to be called Morocco I guess

For a female Moroccan leader who is actually Muslim, how about Zaynab an-Nafzawiyyat. Possibly fictional and never technically a ruler, but she was apparently an extremely influential Berber and was the reason Marrakesh was built in the first place.

ETA: One downside is I can't find a single image of her. This is the closest I can get and I can't even be sure it's her here (not to mention it's not a historical image).

As pleased as I am to see Morocco, I hope we also see another Sub-Saharan Civ, such as the Ashanti.

Yeah, that's true. Oh well. Kahina would've been a cool leader, a good enough substitute for the Trung sisters if Vietnam doesn't get in. :p
