Beefjack interview (Morocco hinted?)

Dihya al-Kahina has to be Morocco's leader. Firaxis wouldn't pass on that one. :p

Spoiler :

Imagine if this painting was adapted for her leaderhead, just like that "sexy" painting of Theodora was adapted for hers.

Let us postulate that Morocco is in. If they had a UB, it might be a Riad, which is a luxurious house. Many riads are now hotels. A Riad is a large flat roofed house with a interior courtyard. There is an image on the poster of a building with an interior courtyard. It's a long shot, but...

she was a Berber queen as far as I know, ruled in what is now Algeria, was then Numidia. not really appropriate for Morocco, particularly as (my gfs Moroccan friend tells me) ethnic Moroccans consider themselves Arabic as a kind of loyalty and NOT Berber

I wouldn't count on Firaxis to be that accurate. Plus, Morocco has been inhabited and ruled by both Arab and Berber peoples. Actually, the Moors who conquered Spain and Portugal in the 8th century (arguably the golden age of Morocco's history) were mostly Berber.

Also, you know very well the developers will throw accuracy to the wind given the chance to include a female leader (and a fairly attractive one too :mischief:).

The devs have mentioned that they read these forums before. How do you think they feel when they see that kind of information get out there ahead of time, particularly like that? It started as a trickle to an absolute torrent in minutes on here.

Every detail of every video and interview getting mulled over and speculated on endlessly must be a lot of fun if you're a developer :p

Civ with a resource linked to it... Berber Carpets?

The fact is although that Moroccans are mostly Berbers. Why they consider themselves Arabs is a different thing. The reason probably is that people historically usually identify more with the more dominant culture, rather than with the people who are conquered. Modern Western countries are exception, because in western countries it can be beneficial to be from a minority.

good point....soooo...her, Catherine or Theodora? Cathy for me

If it's not Kahina (which would be sad), Yusuf ibn Tashfin would be a great alternate, as he took the Spanish city of Valencia from El Cid Campeador's wife, and went on to conquer large areas of Iberia (and yes, they did not tell you that in the El Cid movie, or the El Cid campaign in Age of Empires II).

The fact that it said "Moroccan" is rather strange, I went in game and placed Marrakech in-game, and the tooltip for Marrakech warrior said "Marrakech Warrior, not Moroccan Warrior, so the likelyhood of Moroccan is... likely.

It's probably a bit of an annoyance for the marketing department at 2k, as I'd assume they're the ones in charge of organising where and when new information is released, but surely they must be used to it by now? Every game they release has at least some information about it leaked ahead of time.
On the other hand, I'd imagine the guys actually developing the game at Firaxis are just as excited to see our reaction to all of the cool new things they've added as we are to find out about them. ;)
