Beefjack interview (Morocco hinted?)

I think there are several possibilities. I agree with cultural, but scientific could be a possibility if they would represent the moors in iberian peninsula too. Another possibility is trade related with in mind the gold, salt and slavery trade routes.

Or they could just get Barbary Corsairs and the Ottomans get a new UA.

Moderator might as well change the topic title to "Morocco quasi-confirmed"

Well, the thread is about the article. There just isn't much else in it to consider besides that tantalizing hint.

Seems a pretty big slip up, and I can't see what else it would be. Seems Morroco is in. If so, absolutely fantastic!

How much I would like that they would change the Ottoman trait, this way feels incorrect. Barbary refers to Berbers but most of the famous Barbary corsairs were subject to Ottoman rule, with Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha the corsair who established first a Corsair state, but had to join the Ottoman rule.

I edited the title, I just wanted to let you guys read it for yourselves first. Morocco was a civ I started to expect given the scenario, the need for another North African civ, Morocco's amazing history with Spain and France, and the references to the Arab Spring by the Firaxis people, so this would be a weird random slip to me.

Yeah, I'm not sure how else to read this - he's talking about antiquity sites, something I assume won't be relevant in the Scramble for Africa scenario (it might be, but seems weird, because that would assume it would span over multiple eras).

Looks like something very deliberate to be disconsidered. The specific use of the capital letter in Moroccan as he did with the French also may say something, but we can't know if this is a mere choice of the guy who edited the enterview.

Haha they are playing with us!

So is this the maures (Mores)?
If so I think caravanserail, that gives a bonus to trade routes, and maybe a horseman UU but that would be boring.

I'm going to say that Morocco was always a likely candidate, so this could be a slip that they're in. However, it's far too vague to be sure and we shouldn't read too much into it.

That being said, let the speculation begin ;)

Dihya al-Kahina has to be Morocco's leader. Firaxis wouldn't pass on that one. :p

Huh? That's just how you spell nationalities in English.

So apparently you will be able to trade Great Works aswell as taking them through conquest, interesting! :)

Aside from the Moroccan civ! This was the greatest piece of info I took away from the article! That will make things even more interesting with the great works, I mean I liked the idea of just going out and taking the great works through force and archeology, and expending great people, but being able to trade just makes it full circle!

I really hope this is a hope for Morocco, or broadly speaking, the Moors. They deserve to be distinguished from Arabia, and I always loved playing as the Almohads in Medieval Total War. :D With them and Portugal, one could create a nifty Reconquista scenario... :crazyeye:

she was a Berber queen as far as I know, ruled in what is now Algeria, was then Numidia. not really appropriate for Morocco, particularly as (my gfs Moroccan friend tells me) ethnic Moroccans consider themselves Arabic as a kind of loyalty and NOT Berber

I don't know that much about Morocco's history, any small info how they might turn out, in civ terms? Were they big traders, any stand out units or tactics? Religious? etc.

I would say traders with more naval focus than "normal" Arabs. I wouldn't say they were particularly religious compared to other Muslim states. Today's Morocco is considered more enlightened than most for example.m
