Yes, not only can I re-tell the story of a game but I can analyze it since I keep track of key stats, events and turning points. I do this primarily to keep my head in the game and pay attention to all the important things that I need to pay attention to. Civ fits my style better than any game but many of the older 4X games did the same thing too. If a game doesn't present information well for me to log (like EU), then I don't play it.
A hybrid is where you are doing a mix of things, not sure of a victory condition. My last three games have been very focused (culture, science and domination) so I can learn each of those parts better. But I love warfare, techs, social policies and wonders and my most fun games have been where I get to do a lot of all four.
