Best Civ for Real Start Earth Map in VI

TSL Norway RV on Emp? Or Dei?

It was with Kongo and I never went to war and my troops never shot at a civilized nation.
Their start location is OP

That's right! Deity it is! I have Russia right next to me..

EDIT: So you can survive the first war with both Russia and Germany, but after a while Russia comes back with Cossacks. You have literally no room to expand anywhere, tried North-America but Theo did not like my pop 1 tundra expansion, not one bit. I guess he wanted that snowy forest patch near the ice and sea.. I think this is doable, but just have to maybe take Russia out in the beginning but it will make getting a religion really hard.. and oh yeah, Peter just loves to have the Dance of the Aurora pantheon so there is no help from that, all tough it might be better just to go for the +1 production from fishing boats.

This is my 3rd try, there's no Russia but Vicky is there. Almost feels like cheating now! =D

Its not cheating... its learning. This is how you get better. These maps are not very useful for chopping but that is very powerful if you do not use it yet.

I just settled in the panama and central africa and chopping away happily with the feudalism builders, great for fast start colonies

There we go, 176 turn deity religious victory with Norway. I believe he has a good setup for domination victory too. Not as bad as I thought it would be. I mean if you do not have Russia as a neighbour.

EDIT: Hah! Capital's Holy Site is giving me +31 faith a turn!

You guys inspired me to try Victoria on a TSL Earth map. I haven't played on an Earth map in years.

@gimper42 if you have not tried the naval side, its a bit OP as long as you try and keep your mind on the job, especially early. Harald was a little harder than vic but the longboats are pretty cool early.

Trying new things is what civ is all about. It just teaches you more rather than doing the same thing over and over.

I was surprised how good the Longboats were and the Stave Church is not that bad once you got the 100% adjacency policy for Holy Site. I was pulling 12 faith from adjacency alone from my best spot at that point. The Berserkers though.. I can see some use for those, they're like supercharged horses who get +4 strength from Oligarchy! I'll maybe try another Norway dominance victory next with a land army..

I'm on my second attempt using the Greatest Earth Map (104x64) from YnAMP. I tried once using the Giant Earth (180x94) but that map felt like it was too big. Definitely sticking to the top of the tech tree where feasible. Completely skipped the Medieval Age by teching directly to Cartography. That wasn't as painful as I thought it would be.

Norway was surprisingly easy to befriend early. I gifted my horses right away and a single galley was enough to allay his concerns about my weak navy. After that we exchanged diplomats and he immediately asked for Friendship. This is on Immortal difficulty and he is not expanding much, it feels odd.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well a single quad can work down an unwalled city on its own. Start adding in those right side promotions and look out!

You wait till you see frigates in actions... or battleships with a 4 range and an admiral... and then on to missile cruisers... not that games last that long often with an SP navy game.

Are you doing the Harbour / CZ/ City Centre triangle around a river? Its great gold

I try to do that as a general rule for coastal cities. This map has a pretty decent setup for 3 cities on the big island +1 on Ireland and all of them have rivers. So far, so good =)

It's nice having the Giant's Causeway, and Lysejford (if you take out Harald) nearby. Iceland can be settled, due to the volcano (not trying to spell that one). I've played England quite a bit on that map... I also use TCS Improved Water Yields mod, but it's quite decent without it. Lot's of fishy resources, it's hard not to go God of the Sea. Usually I try to war Phillip if he's there, but he has an annoying habit of putting his coastal cities on the Mediterranean side. In that case, try to get a "base" on Morocco area. I usually try to be friendly with Cleo or Mvemba. or just war them if they are getting snooty about my colonies lol
