May have been a thread about this in the past (I may have even made it), regardless, it's 2008 now & probably new free/shareware games have come out since.

Armageddon Empires. Not freeware, but rather indy published.

I'd also reccomend Battle for Wesnoth. Very highly polished for a free game.

I would highly recommend the Escape Velocity series. Escape Velocity and Override are Mac exclusives but Nova has mods that can let you play those.

Wesnoth is very good. Just tested it.

The mods offer lots of replay as the main game is in eta.

I downloaded that it's now my most favorite game. :D First time I played it I hit level 7 without even knowing it and hit the trial restriction. Bought it without a second thought.

Now I'm just spending hours tooling around in the samurai mod as a lone samurai and one-shotting 3 river pirates in a row with my bow on horseback at full gallop.

What type of game are you looking for?

For an RPG with none to very little graphics a Roguelike game is a good choice.
List of well thought of Roguelikes:
Angband - Basic Roguelike
NPPAngband - My favorite Roguelike. Has improvements on Vanilla Angband.
T.O.M.E. - Tales of Middle Earth - Previously known as Troubles of Middle Earth
Nethack - slap stick Roguelike

Where do you download songs for Frets On Fire.

Battleships Forever. A finalist in the IGF.

Unless it's referring to the cheap knock off that you plug straight into the TV.
