Grunge bands existed in the 90s and pretty much suffered a huge decline with the death of Curt Cobain. After the 90s this term is seldom used for any type of alternative rock.

This is a poll for the Tavern (mods please don't move it to A&E since it is about the poll, not really the OP... :) ). I could try to include more Grunge bands in the poll, but i decided to only have a few, and an "other" option...

I will post one video for each of the contestants :)

Although i could have included the Smashing Pumpkins, they were not really as close to Grunge as the rest, and they changed their style heavily after Bullet with Butterfly wings (which itself is not utterly Grunge in my view either, but close to it) :)

I never understood why grunge got so much more attention than shoegaze or post-rock.

Uh, Silverchair were Grunge in their first album, which included the hit i linked to ;)

That they have been crap for more than 15 years now is nothing new :)

I love Grunge music(and pretty much all 90's alternative). Alice in Chains is definitely my favorite at the moment(esp. their self-titled, so much emotion), though pretty much all those bands(except Hole, haven't really listened to them much) are some of my favorites.

Yeah, Hole is just there so that i could post 9 bands (10nth option is the 'other').

9 is considered since antiquity one of the important numbers, along with 7 and 3 (also to some extent 2 and 1). For good reason too, since it has many interesting qualities... (for example any number- excluding obviously 0- multiplied by 9, gives a number which when its digits are added give 9 as a result) :)

Gotta be the Melvins. All of the heavy, none of the angst.

Of those, Soundgarden, for being the most Sabbathesque of the bunch.

It seems like Pearl Jam always suck in such polls...

I tried to choose the most famous hit of each of the bands, apart from the case of Hole where i did not really remember much about them anyway...

*music elitist mode activate* Ok so the major problem with this poll is that you didn't list Mother Love Bone, Temple Of The Dog, TAD, Mudhoney, L7 or The Screaming Tree's. Yes I know there is an other options but these were major grunge bands!*music elitist mode deactivate*:)

Personally, really hard choose between Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains as I am a massive fan of all 3. Probably Alice In Chains if pushed.

I also frequently listen to Mother Love Bone, Temple Of the Dog and Pearl Jam.

Also, in my opinion The Smashing Pumpkings are more 'Grunge' than the Foo Fighters or Bush. Foo Fighters were only grunge on the 1st album, then Dave Grohl got very alt-rock, then quite mainstream.
