I love the attention to detail.

A few examples,

Morocco. Anybody notice the shape of the moon? Yeah, that's no coincidence

There are dozens of famous candis, but they hit bulls-eye by choosing to display the one from Majapahit's main hub Trowulan.

And fellow carpet aficionados, check out Pedro's screen

I must be missing something completely because I'm not getting much of an evil vibe from the still of Dandolo. I know he's intended to look evil but I can't get a sense of it from a still image.

1) Morocco - nighttime feel is AWESOME, plus I love the glowing tent
2) Assyria - so grand and awe-inspiring to me
3) Shoshone - LOVE the landscapes
4) Venice - again, great night feel in a beautiful city
5) Portugal - looks pretty cool with the ships but the coloring of the stone is :vomit:
6) Indonesia - love the background, but the obese man draws my attention away from the pretty trees
7) Zulu - I don't like the way Shaka turned out (an NFL player was mentioned :goodjob: ) but the village is a decent background
8) Brazil - I never liked the ones with a plain, down-to-earth backdrop and Brazil is exactly that; the only thing that saves it is the nice tropical background
9) Poland - it's dark and bland; and why is he OUTSIDE the castle? is he afraid of guests in his home, or is this simply someone else's castle which he posed in front of? :p

My 2 :c5gold::

1) Indonesia/Gajah - Incredibly beautiful background and Gajah Mada looking badass, this might be my favorite leader screen in all of civ.
2) Venice/Enrico - I've yet to see it in action, but atmospheric Venice at night combined with Darth Dandolo makes a striking scene.
3) Morocco/Ahmad - Beautiful desert landscape, truly beautiful.
4) Assyria/Ashurbanipal - Nice place you've got there. Very grand and imperial.
5) Shoshone/Pocatello - I most certainly have a thing for beautiful landscapes.
6) Zulu/Shaka - One glance is enough to know that this isn't a guy you want to mess with. This is the warmonger supreme.
7) Portugal/Maria - Nice view and nice palace, but it fails to make me go "wow!".
8) Poland/Casimir - It's a cool castle, I guess. Not a bad leaderscreen, but not one of my favorites.
9) Brazil/Pedro - I'm sorry, but an old guy in a tuxedo sitting in an office isn't really my kind of leaderscreen. Still not a bad one, and it's good with variation, but it gets the bottom spot on my list.

I find that the Zulu backround should have people in the backround. It seems that they haven't done that in any of the leaderscreens in CIV 5

Bismarck and Elizabeth both were planned to have them, it is possible they were too intensive to render and the idea has been scrapped, hell, even Isabella's leaderscreen is slightly low res most of the time.

I'm not a Venice fan but even I have to admit that is a cool leader screen.

I don't understand the Poland hate though, I like the castle gate screen.

Of course I need to change my vote now that I've seen the most serene Venetian backdrop......gahhhh

I reckon it would be interesting if they actually hade live acting for the diplomatic leaders.

I would cast Steven Segal for Pocatello, the guy who plays Dumbledore for Dandalo, and Bolo Yeung as the Indonesian guy for a start.. any ides? :)

Indonesia is beautiful. It really captures the feeling of a misty, humid evening in the rain forest. The Shoshone is also pretty nice.
If there's one I didn't like it's Venice, actually... it just looks so lazy to just slap Enrico on a Venice backdrop. It's like just putting Wu Zetian on the Great Wall, or Gandhi by the Taj Mahal.
It just doesn't feel right. Why would Enrico Dandolo be out on the streets of Venice, and why would you meet him there for a diplomatic meeting? I think they could at least have put him on some sort of balcony, and have the city sprawl out beneath him...

He is on a balcony....

I'd think it would be better if there were a few people in the background too.. perhaps the leader flanked by guards or an assistant or two

It's just kind of boring and generic compared to the other screens. Doesn't show off anything uniquely Polish aside from the eagle banner

A lot of the leader screens don't make sense. Why is Oda of Japan just chillin in the middle of a field? Who would have a diplomatic meeting there?! WHAT WAS HE DOING BEFORE YOU ARRIVED?!

Actually, Oda's leader screen is pretty decent. Oda is taking a walk on a meadow by the foot of Mt. Fuji, which plays a very symbolical and spiritual role in the history of Japan, Samurais, and Shintoism.
Most other leader screens have the leaders in their throne room, their office or on a battlefield, which makes perfect sense. That's where you'd expect them to be.

Now that I think about it you're right. All the leaders are in a setting that makes sense. But Venice boy is just chilling in the heart of the city with all the simpletons

Totally worth it though for the beautiful canal backdrop and city night lights
