What do you think it was?

I've heard great things about Adaptation, but I haven't watched it yet, so I'll withold judgement ;)

Spoiler :
$20 says the first post is going to be Avatar...

Spirited Away
Man on Wire

can't believe I put a documentary up there, but Man on Wire is a movie I think about all the time, and I saw it months ago. just an unbelievable movie. it makes you think about fate. it really makes you wonder..

The general consensus on blogs and magazines seems to agree on a few: 4 Weeks, 3 Months, 2 days; Y Tu Mama Tambien; Children of Men; Mulholland Drive; l'Enfant; There Will Be Blood.

I'd personally add Hotel Rwanda, Funny Ha Ha, Food Inc.

Lord of the Rings trilogy [I know that's three movies, but what the hell].

cardgame--please mail me my $20 bucks. :D

The film I enjoyed the most was probably Sexy Beast.

also adding another vote for Lord of the Rings. not only because I was 16 when the very shoddy somewhat animated version of the first half of the first book came out, everyone said it would be impossible to do right and I had to wait 15-ish years to finally see it the way it was supposed to be done.

rarely have I been so in awe in a theatre. "They have a cave troll!" indeed...

I don't see why people are so into the LOTR trilogy. Pretty standard good versus evil fantasy fare with millions of dollars added to make it look nice.

Revenge of the Sith

Hands down

It's "pretty standard fantasy", alright . . . because modern fantasy owes pretty much everything to Tolkien.

Yeah I get why the books are groundbreaking. I just don't see where the ''wow'' factor is with the movie trilogy. Don't get me wrong, they are very well made films, I just don't find them particularly gripping. Must just not be my cup of tea.

The LotR movies are so good because Jackson did such an amazing job converting the books to film.

If they were standalone movies not based on famous novels, nobody would be saying they deserve to be nominated for "movie of the decade" (or year even)

Yeah if you loved the books, its pretty much going to be your favourite movies of the decade and thats understandable.

I'm actually at a loss for my favourite movie this decade. The first one that came to mind I've mentioned, and I'm surprised that it was the first I thought of.

Oh maybe Gladiator. Its completely off historically, but it reminded me of one of those classic Hollywood epics and Crowe was pretty damn good in it. After that I would have to go for either No Country For Old Men or There Will Be Blood.

Wasint into the whole LotR gig. I'm more of a Sci Fi than Midevil fantasy.

As for single movies I must say my favorite is V for Vendetta hands down.

My vote goes towards Children of Men.

+1 for LoTR.

The Bourne movies probably deserve a mention, sheerly for their reinvigoration of the genre, as does Shrek (as probably the pinnacle of animated movies in the last decade).

There are so many to choose from though...
