Best Movie of the Decade

I also say LOTR has been my favorite movie of the entire decade.
The 2nd one specifically. Just love so many parts of that movie.
When Saruman speaks and drawls out his words saying "Sauron AND Saruman".
The Urukai saying "Looks like meats back on the menu boys!"
Grima speaking to Aragorn and company when they enter Edoras and also when Eomer confronts Grima.
When the Elf horn blows at helms deep. And a thousand other reasons, too many good memories associated with LOTR. Just awesome.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Adaptation., Wall-E, The Dark Knight, The Queen, City of God

The Dark Knight, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead. Wall-E, Gladiator

I never understood the thing about Wall-E. I though the one about the chef and the mouse, which came shortly before, was far superior.

I've only seen a few Pixar movies but they are way better than Shrek. Some of the ideas for their movies are really inspired, especially Up and Wall-E.

It didn't take that much imagination to create Shrek - all fairy tale chracters, loveable oaf + sidekick animal. He tries to win somebodies heart. Then hire some A-listers for the voicework. Hardly all that commendable. Not that Shrek is a bad movie, its really well made and enjoyable.

This could have been a very interesting discussion if LOTR hadn't been made.

LOTR is easily (I view them as one movie), the best movie of the decade.

+1 for LoTR.

The Bourne movies probably deserve a mention, sheerly for their reinvigoration of the genre, as does Shrek (as probably the pinnacle of animated movies in the last decade).

There are so many to choose from though...

That's why there is no such thing as "best movie of the decade", cause what makes a comedy good is not what makes an action flick good, is not what makes a sci-fi flick good, etc. :mischief:

Should really be broken by down by genre, like they (kinda) do at the oscars

I support Amelie de Montmartre. And "Les Chansons d'Amour", funny thing the movies that had the most lasting impression on myself were both French!

But Hot Fuzz is also great, I second that.

I'd also say we have to divide it into categories ;-)

Best German Film, I would have to say "Goodbye Lenin", Then there is Brokeback Mountain and of course, The Dark Knight.

I wanted to say my all-time favourite "In China they eat Dogs", but a quick wiki pointed out, it was a 1999-movie ;-)

LOTR was definitely among my favorites.

I also really liked Milk. Up was excellent. Spirited Away and Ponyo were good.

My favourite movie is Moulin Rouge. Call me a sap, but I think for this decade anyway, it hit all the things you expect and don't expect in a movie.

I just realized what it really is. the one I would put forward with no qualms whatsoever.

"Les chansons d'Amour"? I don't know that one. Apparently it does exist and is well-rated on IMDb. Oh well.

It's true "Goodbye Lenin" was really great. I loved that movie.

This being said, there were other great German movies during the decade). Personally, I think I would personally vote for "Das Leben des Anderen" (The Lives of Others), which was totally exceptional. We could also mention "Der Untergang" (Downfall) about the last days of Hitler. The reconstitution was totally unbelievable.

I think there were better German movies than French movies during this decade.

A great French movie though was "Va, vis et deviens" (Live and Become). It's about the life of an Ethiopian Christian kid which pretended to be a Jewish Falasha in order to live in Israel. That's an incredibly powerful movie. It tells so much about today's world, and it's so hopeful. I've never cried so much in a movie theatre. It's just beautiful.
