So I'm playing a multiplayer game with some guys at work and I guess they are SUPER hard core about civ5 bnw. I doubt ill win but I would like to stand a fighting chance! And I was wondering if you guys could recommend a civ for me or give me some "l33t t1pz" for multiplayer. I normally go for a peaceful victory like science or diplomatic with a tall empire but I'm not afraid to go to war (I suck at anything above renaissance era warfare).

what are some civs I should try for mp?

Thanks a ton!

If you are an inferior player you should archer rusher and try and kill off one opponent and then leverage that into a snowball effect.

If you hate aggressive players and you wish to go tall, Ethiopia is a nice choice for MP. If you wish to utterly dominate the early stages of the game, the Shoshone are very good and they provide a small combat bonus in your territory.

Other choices include Aztecs (great UB combined with tradition) and maybe Spain (if you want to bet on luck).

England if you think you can live up to machinery.

Inca for crooked defensive starts but that is heavily RNG dependant. Realistically though, I don't think turtling is a viable strat on experienced MP games and thus England gives you a very large/strong window to repell and push forward despite a slower start. +1 Spy also allow you to catch up on tech fast during renaissance.

You are a lucky guy :)

shoshone (but u rather go wide then tall), india! (best tall civ ever, good UU for defense early on), egypt, babylon, korea and ethiopia

this are imho the best sit there and build up civs.

damn i forgot venice :p

I would say Babylon for a sweet early unit and a science boost that should propel you past the rest of them. Plant that Great Scientist and watch what grows.

how many Players will be in the game? Do you know if they will play aggressive? What map? We need more information :)

Well I know one of them is a full on archer rush warmonger but other than that I'm not sure about the others:)

Perhaps ... The Aztecs.
They start in jungle terrain, where archers are not that strong. The Jaguar Warriors are great with their promotions. Culture for kills is great in every era of the game. Floating Gardens are awesome!! Water mills that can be build next to lakes, only have 1 maintenance and a production cost of 75 (Watermills 2; 100) aaand they increase the city's food (not growth) by 15% + more food from lakes.

When your friends play, do they go liberty or tradition? What civs do they pick. What settings (map, etc) to they select? The answer to these questions will enable me to give you some excellent advice.

They all most always go down liberty and they give me a hard time for using tradition! But we normally do Pangaea or Continents, standard or small, standard pace, standard resources, prince (sometimes king)

Thanks so much!

@DD -- Tell us how it went!

We decided to try OCC on archipelago I went atzecs and others went Ottomans, England, and Spain. England was making about 100+ Gold by turn 90 but that was before we decided to embargo them! So far I have the most science per turn but my island is only 3x5 hexes so Ive been bulbing the GS's I get.

I'm #1 in

Units
Population
Literacy
Approval

China would not be a bad choice either. If you can survive till Chus and manage to get the Great Wall, you can defend your capital super easily, and more citadels are always nice. They have a nice early game boost with the paper maker as well.

If your friends know how to do a liberty production rush and they start close to you, there is a lot of material to cover with tradition strategies vs liberty strategies (this forum is full of posts.)

I recommend this - if you have a close start perhaps also go liberty and get the settlers out quickly. If you have distance between you and others, focus on growing your capital with tradition. If you are allowed to pick civs... go Spain, open with 3-4 scouts, buy a settler when you find a wonder, and settle the wonder for the bonus. My advice would be to read dozens of posts on the tradition vs liberty topic.

Really? I always thought Spain was better at liberty... Huh you learn something new everyday! :) thanks man!
