A simple question, which of their consoles do you regard as the greatest?

I owned three of them, but in this poll i will only include the non-handheld (i had a gameboy, a nes and a snes).

My favourite is by far the Snes. So many hours of playing legend of Zelda, Secret of Mana, Super Mario Cart and other great games :)

I stand inbetween Snes and the Nintendo 64. It's mostly due to the fact that they are the 2 consoles from Nintendo that have spawned legendary series, or evolved old ones to a whole new levels.

The Wii is okay, but damn they should focus on keeping up instead of that stupid motion-controlling.
I mean, the only 2 games I've seen that's made for the sake of motion-controls in general are the Wii-Sports series. And even so, the rest of the games are pretty much just remakes of old games, or cheap overlaps from consoles such as the Ps2 or the GameCube.

I voted NES. I've only ever owned and still own the NES, SNES and Wii.

NES is the one that had the most playtime. SNES I never seemed to get into. Wii is quite enjoyable but the games are too damn expensive.

NES, baby.

That thing was classic, almost every legend in gaming had their first (Or with Kirby, second) game. This was also the time where gameplay was the actual focus, so while some games sucked, the great ones are still fun to this day. Plus, what tops this?

The SNES. All the Nintendo core IPs on one system, and basically everything Square put out on it was good.

The N64 was kinda meh to me. Being a big PC gamer, I never got into Goldeneye because I was already playing FPS games over the internet, so split screen seemed so restrictive, and the aiming controls sluggish. I did finish the single player, but I never got addicted the way a lot of people did. The other problem I had was..no Final Fantasy. The one thing that really got me away from the PC was that consoles had JRPGs. I did eventually get a PS1, of course.

The cube? I liked it, but it was a lot of simply refining old games, not really creating many new ones. (Animal Crossing and Pikmin are two I think of.) Metroid Prime is one of the best games of it's generation, however. Surprisingly, though they don't get known for it like the Xbox, Nintendo has had the best FPS controls of any console on the Gamecube and the Wii.

SNES. SNES is still the classic NES, except with evolved gameplay that doesn't involve as much frustration.

SNES had a huge library and a flabbergasting proportion of these games were good and are still totally playable even today. NES games are also playable today, but are not as immediately appealing to someone who will just admit that graphics have some level of importance. But really, it is the SNES's unsurpassed library of games that makes it shine. The NES had a lot of useless games in comparison.

The N64 has aged horribly. I can't play it anymore. The SNES corresponds to an age of gaming... The N64... worst gaming buy ever. I had it with Golden Eye and Ocarina of Time, but no other game I ever played on it came close to them. And today, only Ocarina of Time is still worth my time, even though it's fugly and the textures mind numbing by today's standard. That's the problem with early 3D games, there's a huge hurdle to overcome when you pop them in. I remember them looking so awesome, then I pop them in to play and immediately get discouraged by the textures I'm looking at. As if those were not the games I remember. This phenomenon doesn't happen with the NES and SNES, they are still crisp and exactly as I remember them.

I can't really speak for the Gamecube, I think it was actually pretty good. Probably more interesting than the Wii, with an interesting collection of games that involve more than failing at taking advantage of a gimmick controller. I have a Wii, I have like 10-15 games for it, I gave it many tries... The only game I finished was Metroid Prime.

The Wii has the gimmick problem, like the DS did. Developers simply need to learn when and when not to incorporate the console's gimmick - in this case motion controls and touch screens.

A lot of developers, especially third parties, force motion controls in their wii games because they feel gamers expect and demand it. When sometimes, you can do a perfectly good game using just the standard controller buttons. Same goes for DS and the touch screen - developers sorta learned that not every game needs stylus controls, and a lot of them make it optional.

Possinly the SNES but I didn't really play it or a NES more than a couple of times. The N64 was hella fun, but has not aged well, the Gamecube, however, has a lot of great games that are still playable on the Wii :p

However I'll go with one not listed, the Gameboy Advanced SP because that is the newest one I have and it is awesome.

N64 for me. The best games, and the highest nostalgia factor for me.

Maybe it's simply childhood nostalgia speaking, but I'm going with Nintendo 64. :)

Yes, it's nostalgia, it has to be.

N64 for me. The best games, and the highest nostalgia factor for me.

See? More nostalgia.

I'd like to see a list of awesome N64 games. I bet there were more awesome games on SNES than there were games published on the N64 *total*.

SNES: 785 games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System_games_(A-M)

N64: 387 games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_64_games
Of the few I played:
GoldenEye 007
Mario Kart 64
Mario Party series
Pokémon Snap
Pokémon Stadium(2?)
Super Smash Bros.

Others I've heard were popular:
Conker's Bad Fur Day
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Paper Mario
Star Fox 64
Perfect Dark

I'm sure others can add to this.

Also:
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes
Animal Crossing 64 (considered by many to be the best in the series)
Super Mario 64
There were a heckatonov great games on this console. But whenever you're comparing old things, there's definitely going to be that nostalgia factor to take into consideration, meaning this conversation is going to be like 70% subjective.

You can already scrap the Pokemon games from the "awesome list" (PS, Pokemon games are usually cool, too bad those weren't pokemon games). Conker's Bad Fur Day was good, but only on the basis of nostalgia as going back to it, you have to suffer through the gameplay and low-res textures in order to giggle at the funnies which are what make this game worthwhile. Perfect Dark = GoldenEye.

EDIT: Owen's additions are making it harder and harder to remember a good game. I'd even say Mario 64 was just important because it was a 3D platformer that got it right. But playing it just makes me feel like playing a more modern 3D platformer. You can't say the same with NES or SNES' 2D platformers, which are not much part of today's gaming in terms of style.

Yep, the poll results would be interesting paired with the age of the voters. I expect those of us voting NES/SNES are older than those voting for N64.

Off the top of my head...

Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Super Mario 64
Mario Tennis 64
Ogre Battle 64
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie
Donkey Kong 64
Super Smash Brothers
Space Station Silicon Valley
Excitebike 64
Starfox 64
Beetle Adventure Racing
Pilotwings 64
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Star Wars: Pod Racer
Rogue Squadron
Turok Dinosaur Hunter
Turok 2
Goldeneye 007
Perfect Dark
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Paper Mario
Castlevania 64
Mario Kart 64
F-Zero X
Resident Evil 2
Sin and Punishment

borderline cases...

Hybrid Heaven
1080 Snowboarding
Jet Force Gemini
Blast Corps
Bomberman 64
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
Doom 64
Glover
Goemon's Great Adventure
Harvest Moon 64
Vigilante 8

I thought Megaman 64 was fun too, but many others said it was crap :p Really, the N64 had plenty of good games if you knew where to look. Its one flaw was the complete lack of RPGs. There was Quest 64 (a steaming pile), Aydin Chronicles (ditto), and Ogre Battle 64 (a great game that was more strategy than rpg).

So yea, the SNES is the best system ever.

I voted GameCube and I'm 21 :p

I never had much exposer to consoles until the N64, and I was never allowed to own my own (hence why I would have voted for a Gameboy as I have three, Pocket, Colour and Advanced SP), though I wasn't restricted from computers.

EDIT: I did borrow an N64 for a few days from a friend once, no wait maybe it was rented from blockbuster, I don't remember. It was for my birthday and the games I ended up renting with it were Quest 64 (couldn't finish the first level) and I think.. I have on idea what the other one was. Maybe GoldenEye007. I only had it for a few days :/

I also borrowed a PS1 for a week from a friend at one point, Legend of Mana was great, and I rented some James Bond game that was okay.

Oooh, and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was fun. I'm a fan of Kirby.

I'm starting to think my list was in vain. You're just weird.
