Best Quiz Idea Yet!! Lord Of The Rings Quiz!!!!

No, your version is correct, schmiddi. A typo on my part. New question: Who traveled with Earendil to Valinor to request the aid of the Valar? And I want the names of ALL the people who went with him, not just the most famous.

Elwing is right, but there were also two sailors who were with them.

so far as the extra point, i think he went to gondor to help rebuild the city gates.

for the question, name the two towers that comprised the morannon.

For the extra point: Sorry, no
He delivered the new city gate doors of Minas Tirith from Aglarond. He is said to have traveled to Valinor together with Legolas to see Galadriel again.

For your question: Don't have the book with me. Will answer tomorrow
Edit: I noticed I Must'nt answer since the question before came from me.  :aargh: :wallbash:

Bump. Don't want to start a new thread when this is official. Thought it was a great idea.

Isn't the answer 4? Then they add spirants and nasals and whatnot afterwards?

The problem for me with threads on LOTR questions (I've seen several in different forums) is that they degenerate into questions like:

"How many basic letters does the tengwar alphabet have?"

or

"What was the name of Earendil's ship". (That's an example of my own that pretty much no-one could answer without looking it up.)

These aren't good questions in any sense at all, they are completely counter to the notion of a swiftly moving thread of this type. That's why no-one bothers answering for weeks on end. That's why no-one could be bothered answering Noldodan's question. Get it?

A good question would be
"What was the name of the Eagle that rescued Gandalf at Orthanc?"

or

What is Gandalf's name
a) to the elves
b) to the dwarves

Anyway, that's my $0.02...

I can answer the first without looking it up: Vingilot or Rothinzil.
Gandalf was called "Mithrandir" and "Tharkun" I believe. (In addition to Olorin and Incanus)
The Eagle was Gwaihir.

My turn: What's the
a) name of one of the two wizards not mentioned in LOTR
b) common denominator of the two wizards not mentioned

Answer either question, not necessarily both.

b) they wore blue and they went to the East

but I'll give the next q. to whoever knows their names

(edited to add: ...because I remember looking at one time and never could find this out, so I want to know ;) )

Pallando is one. I always remembered that because is sounded vaguely italian. The other is an A name, maybe Alamar?

I'll give you right on that one. Alatar.
Also the Ithryn Luin=Blue Wizards.

Joycem gets the next Q!

I cant beleive we havent started this up yet! I just thought about it.

Now, we are only going by the books, not the movies (sorry non-readers)

All rules apply, and please, no cheating.

the first question will be extremely easy

Question 1...

What was the color of Gandalfs hat.

Err, correct me if I'm wrong, but I would be sure Gandalfs hat is blue, not gray.. Well, in the books that is..

Here's a part from the Hobbit where we first meet Gandalf:

All that the unsuspecting Bilbo saw that morning was an old man with a staff. He had a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, a silver scarf over which a white beard hung down below his waist, and immense black boots.

"Good morning!" said Bilbo, and he meant it. The sun was shining, and the grass was very green. But Gandalf looked at him from under long bushy eyebrows that stuck out further than the brim of his shady hat. "What do you mean?" he said. "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is morning to be good on?"

Typically Gandalf btw :D
