Beyond Earth Features

Ok I have updated the first post with everything I can find so far (bar the PCGamer interview which I have not finished yet), If I have missed anything let me know

The info about factions from Kotaku is pretty messed up, when it talks about seven factions and Hive and Believers, he's talking about Alpha Centauri.

For Planets you can add that there are three "biomes" you can choose from at the beginning of the game:
There are several biomes that the map generator can use, including lush jungle, desert and a "totally wild" fungal environment.
(joystiq)
"There are three types of unique planets, called" biomes ". Their entire surface is colored and they bring you a different experience depending on which one you choose. We have the "lush" planet (lush), a planet with a dense vegetation, like a jungle. The "airy" planet (air), with dunes, a cracked soil and a warm, dry climate. Finally, "fungal" the planet (fungal) is pretty wild. " Types of planets that do not prejudice other attributes such as terrain or the presence and size of the oceans, for example.

Simple Overview:

  • In addition to utilizing DirectX 11, Civilization: Beyond Earth will have better graphics, UltraHD resolutions, and allow for up to six different HD displays to run off of a single graphics card.
  • Because Civilization: Beyond Earth is less CPU intensive than Civilization V, the game should be able to run on entry-level hardware.
  • Civilization: Beyond Earth will utilize modern real-time particle VFX (visual effects).
  • There will be a yellow worker vehicle in Civilization: Beyond Earth.

Expanded overview:

"In addition to its use of DirectX 11, Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth will be among the first wave of products optimized for the latest in AMD graphics technologies, including: the new Mantle graphics API, for enhanced graphics performance; AMD CrossFire(TM), for UltraHD resolutions and extreme image quality; and AMD Eyefinity, which allows for a panoramic gameplay experience on up to six different HD displays off of a single graphics card."

"Previous Civilization titles, such as Civilization V, were reasonably CPU intensive, so the reduced CPU overhead and lower-level features of Mantle should help gamers run the game on entry-level hardware including AMD's own APUs."

"On Alpha Centauri, [Mike Bazzell] created a couple of 2D sprite-sheet VFX explosions. Back then, there was only enough memory for two sprite sheets and we swapped 256-color palettes in order to use them for different weapons. On Beyond Earth, after concepting, Mike moved over to creating modern real-time particle VFX. There are astounding differences in technology across all aspects of game development between then--15 years ago--and now, but right there, the difference is amazing!

For Alpha Centauri, Jerome and Mike both did a lot of native life form creature concepts and Mike had everything to do with the creation of Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri’s vehicular units. For Beyond Earth, the concepts that Mike created were for both alien creatures as well as some of the vehicles. What took that feeling of specialness a step further for Mike was the first time that he got to see the yellow worker vehicle concepted for Beyond Earth, in-game. It’s a nice connection that feels really great!"

Brazilia was confirmed in the PC Gamer interview, specifically on page 4 we get:

PC Gamer: How does the AI choose which path to take? Are there set behaviour types?

David McDonough: Actually, that's a really good questions because, as Will was saying about the affinities, we don't want them to be synonymous with a certain way to win, or a certain way to play. Supremacy doesn't always mean military. So the civ with the more militaristic bent, which is Brazilia? may pick Supremacy, but they may not...

The Time Interview goes into a little detail about the pre-game.

"So you’re not just picking your faction and the bonus it comes with, you’re also picking the parameters of your expedition, leaving old Earth and going to the new planet. And so in addition to picking the nation that sponsors your expedition, you’re picking the type of spacecraft and the type of cargo it’s carrying.

So you could bring extra weapons to get off to an early military start, or you could bring extra construction equipment to help buff up your city with an extra building. You’re also deciding what types of colonists you want to bring with to form your first colony. They might be more intellectual, and you’d have scientific bonuses starting on turn one. Or they might be more cultural, focused on culture and refinement and development, in which case you’d be focusing on the culture part of the game out of the gate."

I have updated the first post, once this week of info from PAX has ended I'll add a new to any new information

2K has tweeted:
The first of CIV #BeyondEarth planetary threats to be revealed is the Raptor bug. Do you think you can take it on?

This is undoubtedly a placeholder for the actual release date. I would not update the Release Date info in the OP with that information.

Requiring Steam is certainly no surprise.

That's a good point and kind of a relief. I was a little disappointed when I saw the December date. Still might be worth mentioning the Steam requirement though.

Culture will be spendable on "virtues" ie what your society values (giving bonuses in a wide array of things). which will have a number of cross-related "kickers" ie not only 'finishing bonuses' for going deep, but bonuses for focusing on multiple virtues.

Sounds Most similar to Civ V social policies, but with some interesting differences. (specific cross related bonuses... ie "rationalism"+"piety" might give you a different bonus than "rationalism"+"liberty" or "piety"+"liberty")

Ok I have updated it with the new info

New affinity: wealth. I don't know if it's still topical.

Furthering the differences that will develop between future humanity’s factions are several philosophical “Affinities” (Supremacy, Wealth, Purity, and Harmony). They’ll allow you to determine how humanity evolves on this new world and unlock Affinity-exclusive units, while other competing colonies might go in another direction entirely.
