Beyond the Monument Episode 20 - Entering the Brave New World! (discussion thread)

Well, I was gonna play Gods and Kings but now that I've seen all of this amazingness I don't think i'll be able to do that :P
Ditto

@Imperialchaos he just didn't want to show us Venice.

Is this video going to be available for viewing later? I am in class now and can't watch! (Well, I could, but it is hard to listen to two different speakers at the same time.)

yes. from his youtube page.

Can cultural influence be measured in blue jeans from now on?

Modders better get on that Blue Jean meter.

Fightin' commie injuns with Aerosmith and blue jeans, this is what I've been waiting for in a video game.

MadDjinn, I notice that Patronage is unlocked in _Classical_ Age, now?

Yes it is.

When I have them fully up on YT (in a about 30 min or so to hit 720p) I'll repost the links here.

So was he not allowed to show Venice?

It's not that I wasn't allowed, it's that Venice will be my first VidLP come the 9th ;)

Maybe, maybe not. I wouldn't be surprised if some technical issues that require a hotfix patch comes up after release, that would far from be the first time that happened, so game might well be more or less unplayable the first couple of days anyway.

That would be a disgrace MadDjinn and another person I know from steam have playtested it so they hsould have know the bugs and report it .

this is the 3 third expansion i expect a finished game withouth bugs

Gotcha. Another question I asked: can culture make your borders expand into another civilizations like in Civ IV?

Anyway, fun video. :goodjob:

 just simply don't know how to respond to your tired diplomacy rants and now you expect games to be completely bug free?!?

That has always been the case in Civ5 since vanilla, I believe.

No you can't expand into another civilization, you can only expand into unclaimed tiles (except with a great general)

Sorry for beeing critical it has been a few years and 1 expansion later and the main issue diplomacy hasn't been adressed so i am a little bit critical yes hopefully firaxis proves me wrong with the third expansion.

And yes this is the final expansion and like ed beach said the finishing touch so there shoulnd't be major bugs that prevent people from playing

A bug-free game is kinda impossible to pull off, even with hotfixes and patches and such.

This game was quite complex before but all these crazy new mechanics will probably be really hard to fully understand and master... and also time consuming... jeez my average turn time in the late game already is... like 15 minutes in g&k :D

Diplomacy in Civ has always been a means to an end - just a mechanism for the important elements in the game: economics (trade), military and research. Attempts to form factions through diplomacy failed miserably in Civ4. It should only be one of many possible mechanisms that a player can use because we can win all kind of ways with or without engaging in such. BNW changes that some but as since in this play-through, one can ably play simply be forcing your will and using your opponents for your gain. Civ has always been that way (for single-player).

Regarding bugs, I guess I have not known anyone (meeting the specs) not being able to play the game; but then again, I don't ever visit the Bugs forum.

Same here because every Civ game I have ever played takes me 20-35 hours each over a period of 2-3 weeks. Part of the reason is because I keep detailed logs and pay attention to everything. Now with a gazillion more screens and information, I got to study what will be important to track and I can see my gametime increasing 25-50%.

I missed most of the live stream so I started watching from the beginning as soon as it popped up on twitch, but it disappeared from twitch when I was only about 15 minutes into it.
