[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Regarding the religions above discussion. It looks like you only get the bonuses if you are following the religion you have the shrine for. If I am a Buddist and then discover Islam and build the Islam holy city shrine I don't get the benefit of it because I am a Buddist...correct?

Not the case in unmodded Civ4

Should also balance the value of +1 culture vs +1 wealth. I would much much prefer the +1 wealth. Even +2 culture isn't worth the same.

I'm probably not going to change any more XML (unless it's to fix a typo/bug). However, if you want to play around with the CIV4ReligionInfo.xml file yourself and want to post an "alternative" version of Religion bonuses, I'd be more than happy to add a link to it in Post #2

Yes, I meant Free Religion rather than Pacificm above, typo on my part.

Regardless of what the code sais, I have the same experience as Scoottr regarding holy cities and state religion, though I need to test more to make absolutely sure. And as previousely mentioned, I also find +1 :gold: a whole lot more powerful than +1 :culture: (though I guess this in part depends on what kind of strategy you are playing - but then again gold is by definition a much more versatile resource than culture).

I didn't modify any SDK code that affects religions in that regard (that I'm aware of!) but if you could maybe testt that more if you have time and give me your results, I'll see if I can isolate it and make head/tails out of it. :king:

Gave it a shot... the error you got is basically saying the computer ran out of RAM! Same thing happened to me, too. You must of had a lot going on in that game. I didn't try lowering the graphics settings... although that shouldn't matter since most graphics cards (including mine) have a GPU that processes these things seperately.

I'll search the forums and see if there are any recommendations on what to do if you run out of RAM while playing late in the game...

Thanx Grave, tomorrow Im going to by new PC because of this game! I will by latest graphic card with 1gb ram and ddr3 memory and if I still have problem with civ 4 I will not play it anymore!

I have spent a bit of time searching and have come up with nothing...
I have tried many other mods without issue. I want to try this one but am having an issue. This mod requires you to install it to the main file instead of the one under My Documents, which is different than other mods I have tried. When I go to Load a Mod, HitM does not appear on the list. What am I doing wrong?

edit: I figured it out, dumb mistake on my part.

Apologies in advance if you have already answered this question.

I was able to load the mod, but after I hit the "launch" button for a earth 18 civ custom scenario, I get CTD. In the random map mode it seems to work though. But I love the earth scenario.

Any thoughts/ideas to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to what seems like a terrific mod!

Was it a map custom made for HiTM? If not, it won't work.

I want to share my latest map for HITM v 4.00. A lot of improvement on the previous map.

As the one before this is an advanced-start map with 19 nations (+barbarians) and over 200 cities with religion. Everything on the map has been modified. Some geographic areas are inflated to represent their respective importance in the world, such as England and Japan to allow me to put at least a few cities on them.

Nations Sorted by Religion:
Spoiler :
-Christian: Spain, France, Germany, America, United Kingdom, Russian Federation
-Islamic: Arab League, Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, Ethiopia (yes, most are orthodox, but not in this game) India (I know most of them are not muslim now but they used to be ruled by muslims for centuries before 17th cent.)
-Taoist (not completely realistic but this is meant to unite all far-east nations): China, Japan, Mongolia, Korea
-Zoroastrian (used as an animist/shamanist religion): Mexico, Inca, South Africa

Here's how you install it:
Spoiler :
-Extract the rar file into C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\HISTORY IN THE MAKING\PublicMaps
-When in the main menu of HITM, select "play scenario", and then choose Evliya's HITM Advanced Start Earth Map
-Choose your nation
-****Espionage is not selected in default mode, so if you really want to play with it choose the map through the "custom scenario" option, then tick the relevant box for espionage.

Here's how to install the flags that I use for the civ's in this map. This one is optional, though I'd highly recommend it.
Spoiler :
-Extract the file "teamcolor and flags.rar" anywhere and then put all the flag files (ending with .dds) into C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\HISTORY IN THE MAKING\Assets\Art\interface\teamcolor (****The folders "interface" and "teamcolor" may not be there, in that case create these folders)

Enjoy!

Was it a map custom made for HiTM? If not, it won't work.

Thanks Grave. Its the Earth 18 Civ Scenario that came with BTS, so no it was not made for HiTM. I figured it would not work, but it was worth the try. Thanks again.

I recommend playing with Monarch difficulty.

Cool! I'll post this in the download section! :goodjob:

The reason it won't work is because HiTM allows 24 Civs per map, where vanilla BtS allows 18. There is an HiTM compatible version of that map, though.

A quick question I would have is why it was that there are not Great Spy spawnings along with General, Engineer, Scientist, etc., at intervals? The initial one spawns with the corresponding Tech where the first Civ to discover receives a Great Spy, however after that I don't see Great Spies spawn ever.

Error in greatPersonBorn event handler <bound method CvCivSpecificGreatPeopleModEventManager.onGreatPersonBorn of <CvCivSpecificGreatPeopleModEventManager.CvCivSpecificGreatPeopleModEventManager instance at 0x47797198>

Is a code that I get between turns that I'm not sure but may correspond to this?

Grave, I know you said you wanted the detaisl opf mapp etc, but this "bug" does not really relate to that. I enable archer bombard but after 30-40 missed targets I did some investigating and it appears that in you unitinfo xml, the approx 7 archer unit (three of them unquie) did not get a dcm bombard accuracy line under art defines, so I assume this means that they have a 0 bomabard accuracy? Anyway not really a big deal as I wentin and changed this and it as now working fine, and by the way areally great mod, and I especially love the scaling you have done to the units, much more in keeping with a size relative to a city. Oh, nearly forgot the carter earth for Hitm will not work unless you edit its modpath with notepad etc.

Cheers

Well now that you bring the bombardment thing up am I the only one who suspect that its broken?

I mean I can try Ranged Bombardment with a Trebouchet 10 times or so before actually hitting anything even though the civilopedia says the unit has a 60 % accuracy rate.

\Skodkim

Its not broken, (at least not the trechbuket part), because if the pedia say that it has that arrucacry, this means that the unit does actually this (ie if you mod the unit file, this section of pedia atomatically updates-a big change from civ 3). Depending on what you are trying to bombard (as defensive bonues-especially in cites are applied to this task). I've noticed that both Hitm and ROM-AND mods both chage the base difficulty of hitting unit in a city from 100 to 350, where the higher the number, the hard it is to hit. So in summary, keep this as they are, or mod the defines alt.xml file, not the individual units (except for the archer which need modding, as above) so as to keep the unquiness of units compared with each other. Persoanlly, I found that the balace is quite good, you don't (well I don't at least) want game balced chanched to much as it can very easily get out of hand.

If you could direct me to the compatible version that would be great. But don't worry about it if you don't know where it is. Otherwise, the mod has been great so far!

How can I play this MOD with the Steam version I'm using. I have downloaded the MOD and put in BtS/Mods directory, but I can't launch itas it's not shown in the Mod list when I lanch the game. And the funny thing is when I lauI even can't launch it as it states the the executable Civilization4.exe is not found....

You are placing it in the main directory, not your documents directory right?

I have a civ 4 complete hard copy so not really an expert with steam, but to my understanding most (if not all) mods are compatiable as long as you place them in the correct folders. So for me this is c:/2kygames/fixares/civ4complete/beyondthesword/mods Be very carfully which mods folder you place it in because there are mod folders all over the place. Also, some mods have a excecution path in their ini. files somewhere, but I not really an expert in this area, but there would be no doubt as to an definitive answer somewhere in these forums

compatible version??

Yea, Grave said there is a compatible BTS Vanilla 18 Civ Earth Scenario for HiTM. If you look up a few posts you'll see what I mean.

Sorry ahead of time if these issues have already been addressed...

I just started playing HitM this week, and I have to say I'm very excited. A fantastic revamp IMO.

I've been keeping tabs on bugs while playing through to help keep HitM clean, and found a couple small things:

- Corporation & Espionage symbols are not showing up on the buttons in the upper right. All other buttons are present, but those two particular buttons are void of an icon in them. BtS conflict? XML edit?

-The warning for chopping down forests comes up as 'TXT_KEY_BUG_PRECLEARING_FEATURE_BONUS'. XML edit?

Info:
Win XP Home
BtS 3.19 / HitM 4.0 w/patches
Random map
German Civilization

There's a couple earth maps that came with HiTM... check those out. They're in the PublicMaps directory.

Thanks for pointing these out, dlugo!

I was already aware of the missing button icons. I wasn't able to locate the bug that makes that happen, however it's only cosmetic and has no negative effects on the button when you select it, so I left it alone.

I will look into the missing TXT... should be very easy to fix! :goodjob:
