Beyond the Sword Interview on Strategy Informer

"The privateers will be more usefull, even if they are implemented the same way as in CIV3. Now you'll have to protect your coastal resources carefully, if not your opponents can pillage them without declaring war."

Wow, that is a GREAT point. Now I am looking forward to using some privateers!!!

I'm pretty sure every AI will put a ship on it's crabs. So the only thing that changes is that I have to do it as well :D

One option that I think will prove popular in multiplayer is the ability to select any leader-civilization combination. Not only is there something fascinating about using Gandhi to lead your Mongol Keshiks into battle (!),

Aggressive and Protective Tokugawa and his Mighty RedCoat Army.

Apparently GALCIV2 does it. The key is multi-threading, which allows part of the program to do computations when the human player is slowest link in the chain (e.g. human is just looking at their turn, making decisions)

I doubt a AI can be programmed that advance to compete with human brains on a TURN BASED game without giving the AI extras while keeping "next turn timers" down to an accapteble timeframe..

Charismatic, Aggressive
vs. Aggressive, Imperialistic
vs. Imperialist Charismatic

would be the grudge match of the century.

IIRC, in the very first Civ, you could design the exact ratio of components on your spaceship with the result being how fast it could travel. Meaning that the landing, not the launch was what gave you win, and the race was a real race and a real crapshoot if you didn't plan for it well.
I'm thinking it'd be easy to expand that to the winner being who sets up the best / most viable Alpha Centauri colony by the end of the game, and even making it a team victory option (kind of a nod to SMAC). Like how fast, how many, how productive, and how sane your first colony is.
And the space race and near orbit / solar system aspects could be worked in as well, so not just the Apollo Wonder and a few spaceship parts are needed for a win.

The return of the Privateers is a bonus... hopefully, they will be more useful this time around.

As far a the spaceship being customizable, I wonder exactly what they mean.

While others may sculk (sp?), I am actually perking my ears at the random events (quests) addition. Definately interested in how this will play out.

Yea, but remember that if you get privateers while your opponents still have crappy ships, your privateers will probably be able to kill their crappy ships guarding the seafood. Great way to leverage a lead into a greater lead, and fun!

Aggressive and Protective Tokugawa and his Mighty RedCoat Army.

that would be sick...very sick indeed.

my dream team: Genghis Khan and his mighty Panzers!

Isabella and her mighty fast workers! (Expansive + fast worker)

... wow, it just occured to me that you would get the UB aswell, so it would be Genghis Khan and his mighty Assembly Plants!

Ha! Mehmed II (Exp/Org) and his mighty Ikhanda!

Owww: Genghis (Agg/Imp) and his mighty Ikhanda! That'll be nasty O.o

I want it to come out for mac sooooo badly, I don't feel like getting a copy of windows for my mac.
