My city represent!!. It's a student place. Today's saying was "Six before six , wine before nine, goon before noon".

Six before Six is a six pack of beer before 6am. Wine before 9am and a goon is cask wine. 3 litres of cask wine. My binge drinking days used to be a 24 pack of beer or a bottle 1125ml of spirits.

Ever since I learned the history behind St. Patrick's Day, I haven't bothered to celebrate at all. If I wear green, it's most likely to be because it happens to be whatever I grabbed that day.

I will be wearing green for part of the day, though. It's 11:40 pm here on March 16, I'm wearing a green t-shirt, and my reading glasses I keep by the computer have green frames (sort of a light yellow-green).

I'm already drunk, now time to load the kids into the car and plough through a parade on my way to the in-laws.

Drink is a problem here and I did drink to excess when a student, but those days are long gone.

Off licences (where alcohol is sold to take away) are voluntarily closed in the center of Dublin today.

It isn't as big a problem as it used to be, the population is aging and young people seem to be more sensible.

Had one glass of wine since coronatimes (early 2021, just after newyears), never plan to drink alcohol again, ROI is among the worst of any activities, you get one life, one body

I've crunched the numbers locally. Most things are comparatively cheaper except rent and maybe utilities. We were paying around a third of student allowance in rent now it's around half or a bit more. At least locally.

If you work part time you're probably better off than 90's. Minimum wage has gone from $6-$8 an hour to over 22. Fast food has roughly doubled in price, booze 50-75% more at least from stored, electronics and most consumer type goods are vastly cheaper.

Something like 90% ofvtge students cone from middle class or better backgrounds so they're usually better off than raw numbers indicate.
